Ok, what the fuck is happening to /jp/? Classic, on-topic threads are being deleted, many more 3D threads, /b/-esque threads are rampant (like room, living in Japan and relationship threads), and there is no talk of anything related to /jp/ other than Touhou, Type-moon and mainstream VNs (hell not even Key is discussed here much anymore; there always used to be a thread or two about the more obscure stuff).

What is happening?

Seriously though, I got banned last week and I spent the whole time on smaller chan sites. I was really shocked that no one was trolling and all the posts were serious and at least three sentences long.

To tell you the truth, I'd just like to hang out with some of the old /jp/edos from back when the board first started. I would hate to be in a chat with most of the people that are here now.

I'm going to guess that one or more lurkers that were part of anime clubs finally dropped the name JP while discussing online activities, causing an inrush of faggots. My own tests confirm the presence of genuine neophytes posting, rather than just more numerous trolls. I guess /jp/ is infected. I feel like I should have tried harder, maybe been meaner and more spiteful. It was a nice few months, I guess.

If by imagine you mean remember, then yes I definitely can remember how much better it was. Oh sure, back around May when the front page tended to have 8-10 Touhou threads at a time I thought it was too much just like everyone else. But anyone who was around for those times can tell you the board was a million times better then than it is now. Just like how during the LS/GL shitfest on /a/ everyone thought it was utter shit--until the board got SO MUCH WORSE that it started to look like a golden age in comparison.

I have no solution for the problems that plague /jp/. I could always just give up and look for somewhere else to F5 away my free time, but I don't want to surrender. As hard as it is to stand /jp/ right now, I can't keep letting faggots drive me out of my home.

Same thing that's happening on all the other boards: more and more people are discovering 4Chan, and, due to their influence, the focus of the boards is slowly but surely shifting. /e/'s changes are really pissing me off, namely the hostile anti-request sentiment that's cropped up over the past year, which was absent for the first year or so I was on 4Chan.

Also, Christmas break is happening, so all the little 13-year-olds are flooding the internet, and 4Chan is part of the internet.

One of the problems that /jp/ had in the past was lack of diversity. You can only debate about the Nasuverse and Touhou for only so long.

Now the problem this board faces is an identity crisis. /jp/ is practically just a mish-mash of various other boards (/a/, /trv/, /v/, etc.). The lack of focus in the our board's name can make it confusing for newer users who weren't present during the split. So, people post anything Japan related which in turn further dilutes our already vague construct.

It isn't necessarily a bad thing to have a diverse array of topics, but I do agree some of it just needs to go (Like the never ending "how dose I learneded moon speek" threads). We just need to find a nice balance between the 2d and the 3d.

Pretty much EVERY thread about Japanese culture ultimately comes down to trolling, the majority of those threads start out with a pretty obvious troll like 'WHY AREN'T MOST JAPAN FEEL BAD ABOUT WW2' or whaling or some such, generally done as a attack rather then a actual attempt at discussion. Those threads are the main reason the few serious ones get ruined, /jp/ isn't used to other boards not coming along and trolling the shit out of Japanese news or calling everyone a weeaboo.

So what we generally get instead is Touhou, VN, figurines, idols and HEY I'M TRAVELLING TO JAPAN or LEARNING JAPANESE threads. It's not perfect, but we've had some laughs in the past. Even if like /a/ any pure character gets accused of being a slut. Real nice, /jp/. Reaaaal nice.

Ah well, whatever. I doubt most of them have the staying power and it'll be over by the end of the holidays. We've had some really shit periods before, at least they aren't all asking for SO YOU WAKE UP IN GENSOKYO threads.

Forced Anon is pointless, there's a reason it didn't work too well it /b/ when they tried it. Faggots would ANNOUNCE themselves with a tripcode and you could completely skip their post without even bothering. Plus on that rare occasion someone actually posts useful over a period of time it's needed to stop impersonators. Point is, a tripcode generally only gets used for identification and the only time identification is needed and when you are updating on something of actual interest. Most users just use it to troll.

Touhou: in moderated amounts with some discussion, not pointless image dumps direct from danbooru

2D Culture: figure/room/trinket threads are okay. there generally aren't to many of these and they can be useful when a helpful anon points you to a good place to purchase such items.

3D: idols = camwhores

Kigurumi: same as 3D basically

ronery: most people on /jp/ are neets and thus should never achieve the feeling of being lonely

Fact is, /jp/ is where the weaeboos hung out to discuss weaeboo topics before they got otakus forced on them from the board split.

The first few weeks following the slipt was great -- /jp/ was a forum for advanced power-level threads, and many of us thought we would never go back to /a/ again which was, to be honest, a kiddy wade-pool filled with shit once the otakus left.
