I had the strangest experience today.

I recently started a new job with a software development company. I just turned 30, but was paired up with a 21 year old as my "buddy" as he has already been with the company for a year and was closer to me in age than the rest of the staff.

We get talking and over the next few weeks I find out that he's huge into electronic music and by extension Miku. He invites me to the local arcade to play Diva Project, come to find out he goes there every lunch break and drops serious money every week to play. I had a little Miku figuring hanging from the rear view mirror on my car so I found it kinda cool to find another connoisseur of weeb shit.

We start talking turns playing Diva Project. I jump to the songs I know from 10 years ago, Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru, Ievan Polkka, and Vegetable Juice. He tells me point blank "I've never heard these songs before". I was dumb founded. I told him, "These are the songs that pioneered Vocaloids, you've really never heard them?". He went on to pick three songs himself, all stuff I've never heard before, all new stuff.

While we left the arcade he said that he enjoyed hearing the songs I picked and called them "golden oldies".

Generational gaps. It blows my mind. Even now I came to /jp/ expecting to see Touhou threads, im@s, and some of them new fangled ship girls. But you've all moved on past that, you are now talking about fucking safari animal waifus and shit.

I think he guy is just a massive faggot. How do you drop so much money on a machine and not go through every song at least once? even myself, I'm only 22 and I know all those songs you mentioned so calling it a generational gap can't be it.

If that guy never heard of Polkka then something is seriously fishy here.
