Well if its some fantasy bs or space-oriented martian moonlanders with hanyuus, then that would both beat the point as well as destroy the limits of an open word concept in its very core. I honestly liked rgg despite its experimental nature, as it was delivered well, and the interaction during fight scenes in order to involve some of the readers in order to gain perfect score added to the tension during crucial points. In this regard I would rather have the new wtc contained within such an environment. That is to say within a section of a city or a smaller country, no larger than that.

What's all this about WTC5 not being set in an isolated location? I must've missed that.
Really hope that won't turn out to be true, the best thing about WTC is the isolated, 80's pre-smartphone setting that allows for a thrilling story with no real help from outside elements.

WTC5 being set in modern day Tokyo or something would be so completely different. It's hard to keep the tension of a closed-off creepy small village or an island in the middle of a huge storm when the story is set somewhere with millions of people around.

Actually it's very easy to find what I wrote so that's where you'll find my personal input. As for the space theme, the first of the sixteen tracks (appropriately named "Organics Automata") mentions restoring the planet's beauty. Alongside Punica/Haworthia's titles and names, Automata preserving nature in the present and the revival of stars, abandoning the planet for interplanetary warfare would be totally nonsensical. That's why I posit WTC5 is a call for a return to form.

Furthermore, Ryukishi just wrote Vespio 2438 in Trianthology, which is exactly what you're fearing WTC5 would be. If he was sincerely adamant about his story not being conspicuous/obvious he wouldn't repeat his last VN work.

What happened with these two ? Why did'nt they kept going after episode 5 ? I happened to discover this blog while searching why people were so inclined to believe in the Shkannon explanation. I ended up reading everything they wrote and I have to admit that I'm pretty baffled by how much details I missed just because I wanted to find a solution to the murders and the overall mystery, not trying to understand the "why" despite Ryukishi blatantly telling us to adopt this way of thinking throughout the story.

It's a little farfetched but it actually makes sense.

If you are honestly lost it may be better to just buy the first half of Umineko on Steam, you can't go wrong that way. Although it isn't there yet, Chiru (the second half) is coming to Steam in the near future. Nyaa as a single website disappeared a while ago. There are sites running with haphazardly shoved together backups of multiple parts of the original nyaa.se database which should have Umineko in multiple flavors. The two nyaa sites that most people use (this includes Japanese pirates, they somehow exist despite the draconian copyright laws in Japan) are nyaa.pantsu.cat and nyaa.si. The first site is run by some anons from /g/ while the other seems to be run by remnants of the original nyaa sites' admins, made up of fansub/ripping groups such as HorribleSubs and Commie.

By running the executable from the outermost folder you are likely running the unpatched original game in Japanese which requires Windows' locale to be set to Japanese to even have the game appear. For flavors of Umineko released before 2016ish, there are nested folders (folders inside the original folder) with patches inside them. A screenshot of the folder that you are running the game from may help us diagnose your problem. Specification as to what Operating System you are running may help too.

The original PS3 patch was created by Umitweak, and the original English patch was created by Witch Hunt (WH). Running the executables within these folders is what you probably need to do. These executables are actually a reimplementation of the original game's engine, named ONscripter. (The name presumably refers to the Open Source nature of this reimplementation of Nscripter, the original game's proprietary engine.) This allows for the running of the game without changes to locale as well as opens up the game to translation.

Sorry if I am overcomplicating things, I may well be an honorary Canadian.

I have not used the Steam release but I do know that it runs on PONscripter (unlike Higurashi which runs in Unity -.-). In this thread most of us have already read through Umineko with older versions and we probably only know how to explain the ins and outs of the older patches and releases.

My impression is that we don't know anything significant about the plot yet besides speculation based on the Haworthia sound drama, but has Ryuukishi even confirmed that WTC5 will be a When The Cry game in the sense of how it's experienced? As in, being full of bizarre and unexplained elements, foreshadowing, and red herrings, meant to engage readers mentally, with each successive arc deepening the story and characters? Which one should I tell someone to read first, Higurashi or Umineko?

I kind of want them to read Umineko first, but since I read Higurashi first it's kinda difficult for me to tell if reading Umineko first would be sort of spoilery for Higurashi. You know, because of the metaphysics and stuff.
