Is touhou glorious days over ? Boats are objectively inferior in any way beside the easier sexualization but you see less and less touhou pictures and doujins by the day while the kancolle trend stays the same. What made it this way ? Shit characters in new game ? The setting is running out of steam ? A long series of meh games with forgettable characters beside that one meme clown ? When asked what my favourite setting ever was 5 to 6 years ago I'd have answered Touhou in a heartbeat but now I didn't save a single touhou picture for months.

Artists move on to new interests, get burned out, or otherwise die in floods/earthquakes.

Porn doujinshi artists tend to be the first to leave, cashing in on the latest fad. Twitter primary uploaders next, gotta stay relevant. Pixiv heroes afterwards as interests shift naturally. The remaining diehards usually latch onto drawing a single girl they've claimed (The true fans) or are people still discovering touhou in their own way.

Maybe its golden era, but it is far from dead, the fact that there is a (9) year aniversary version of Cirno's Perfect Math Class is something that no other fan base has even achieved.

As long as people still enjoy the games, books, music, and fan works touhou will live on.

Kancolle is still relatively new when compared to 2hu. People have been drawing the cast of EoSD, PCB, and IN for over a decade now, where Kancolle is still fairly new and is still mostly unfamiliar to western audiences, keeping it fresh for longer.

No, I honestly think some of the newer games have some of the best characters since SA. TD and UFO where meh, but afterwards the games got much better.
Kasen, Junko, Clownpiece, Baykaugen, Sejia, and so on are some of the best characters in the series.

Maybe, there is only so much you could do in a japanese fantasy land with 2 hells and 1 ghost realm. But actually putting the games with a direct translation on Steam would give the series some new steam.


Take it easy the touhou fandom will never die, it is one of the few fandoms to have a dedicated board on 4chan.

I guess you could say its "glory days" are over since it's probably not AS popular as peak popularity, but it's really disgustingly fucking popular and showing no actual sign of dying.
