With the trend of more and more JP devs partnering with EN companies to bring stuff to the west, I do honestly wonder

Is it still too hopeful to think that maybe Eushully stuff might get to the West?

Sorry, I thought this was one of the better places to ask such a question

>> No.17540431

>>17540428
What, no? It's possible. It is considered a miracle that AliceSoft wants to deal with the west suddenly, so I guess it's entirely within the realm of possibility that Eushully gets picked up by someone in the future. Perhaps if the AliceSoft gameplay titles sell well, well enough to cause a buzz.

>> No.17540552

They're selling absurdly well, Rance VI anyway. The gameplay stuff has much more potential to sell in the west than traditional vns too since shit like JRPGs might as well be what is considered gameplay VNs.

I'm not sure if they'd sell nearly as well as Rance, since Rance is practically a meme and is super famous in the west. Gameplay titles have a history of selling well for MG though, so it's very likely they'd still do well.

Key used to be really adamant about going to the West, so it's possible that Eushully will come around even if they were full "baka pirate gaijin" when Aroduc tried to contact them a few years ago. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's a possibility nonetheless.

>>17540431
Rance VI sales are crazy. Haruka sold enough to be the top seller of 2016, but it didn't do nearly this well. It's probably why Alicesoft okay'd Evenicle, Sengoku Rance, and Rance Quest all at once.

>>17541275
I think Eushully games will at least sell as well as Haruka. That's extremely well by MG standards, though whether or not that will be enough for Eushully is anyone's guess. It helps that from what I've seen, there are a significant amount of people that prefer Eushully over Alicesoft in the West.

I think it depends on the project and on the translator. Generic moege or nukige #9597459 aren't likely going to have a ton of extra effort put into them. It's when the translator is a fan of what they're translating that they tend to put extra effort in.

>> No.17541578

>>17541520
Of course, but it's not hard to be better than those guys. I've read most of MG's catalogue, and played plenty of games which were brought to the west by Atlus/NISA/etc. Not counting title localization, I'd say it's like this (1-5, 1 being the best)
Bigshots = localization - 5; translation - 4
MG = localization - 2 (exceptions exist), translation - 3
I include editing, TLC, and QC under translation.

>> No.17541706

>>17541520
Atlus probably not. Bamco mostly likely, really depends on the game.
Atlus games tend to get a lot of flack, but there's certainly a lot of though put into both the editing and the TL. But there's not consistency between projects, just like how some MG releases are terrible with poor editing jobs and mistranslations while others are nearly perfect on release. It completely depends on the particular staff for a title, and the title itself. As another anon said, the localization in most big companies is usually leagues better than a VN release as well, whether you love it or hate it.

Subahibi just reached $100k with about 12 hours to go. It would take a considerable but possible late surge to get to the $120k stretch goal during the Kickstarter, however Frontwing has already indicated that Backerkit funds will count as well and that they'll be open through the end of September, so it should be reached during the backerkit stage. The $180k stretch goal appears it will likely be out of reach.

Sakura Sakura is up to $10.5k and should reach halfway during the week. It should be able to reach its goal with the help of a late push, though it isn't likely to eclipse that goal by all that much.

Memory's Dogma got a mostly unnoticed Kickstarter update last week noting that the sales of the first title were below expectations, and it may end with Code 02 instead of proceeding beyond that as had been planned. Before Sekai's bundle, it was at roughly 3.5k on Steamspy (which would have included a couple thousand keys distributed through the Kickstarter). It's now up to around 75k owners thanks to the bundle, although it remains to be seen how much the bundle sales contributes to the sales of the sequel (something also true for KaraKara and to a lesser degree Fault).

That is the Kickstarter update in question for Memory's Dogma, but the main thing seems to be that they made the title into an ambitious project and budgeted it for higher sales expectations that were commonplace on Steam during its development. Before the bundle, there had look to been roughly 2k keys distributed on Kickstarter, along with a rough estimate of another 1.5k sales on Steam. I doubt they expected or needed Nekopara like numbers, a better comparison would probably be the successes of titles like Fault (which had roughly 25k pre-bundle) or WEE that found great success on Steam, and even a title like KaraKara found quite a bit more success on Steam being roughly 11k before the bundle. It also seems like it didn't have much of a presence in the Japanese market as a title largely developed for Steam, as opposed to many localizations which profit in the Japanese market and then make some extra revenue from the West.

JAST USA's releases tend to be a bit better overall. It doesn't make up for how much time they take, but I'd rather have them than Sekai.

Sekai Project is probably about as bad as Atlus USA, other than the fact that the people Sekai has in charge seem to hate their consumer's guts. As far as big shots go, Atlus USA isn't that bad, but Xseed is substantially better (if only because of Tom). Idea Factory international is probably better than Atlus USA tlwise, but not so much when it comes to technical issues. NISA is NISA. It goes without saying that they should be burned on the stake.

Fault should be 65k pre-bundle, it was the sequel that was 25k before the bundle.

>>17542069
Obviously Fault was successful long before the bundle, but the bundle is still responsible to the majority of even Fault Milestone One owners on Steam, and it will still be a useful metric to see how much of a boost the bundle boosts future releases. Though obviously KaraKara and Memory's Dogma will be much bigger tests because of the significantly larger percent of owners getting it through the bundle.

It would be funny if MG was forced to expand the top 5 into the top 10 because Alicesoft games kept dominating. I don't think Rance VI will consistently be in the top 5 once Sengoku and Quest start being sold, but Huniepop has lasted this long.

>1,260 backers pledged $105,928 to help bring this project to life.

For the final total on Subahibi. It was exceptionally front loaded, perhaps because those who knew of the title already backed on day one, while those who didn't would have been hard to appeal to down the road, leading to an exceptional first 24 hours. Additionally, its potential later in the campaign was limited by the lack of something like a Vita release (obviously impossible for this title) to help with a strong finish.

To show how front loaded it was, it got roughly $70k within its first 24 hours, then just another $36k from the remaining 24 days, for a final total just over 50% higher than the day one total. To compare again to other recent Kickstarters, it is the lowest ratio from day 1 to the end by a fair bit as far as recent VN Kickstarters go (though many of those received a considerable boost from Vita boosts).

Day 1 total, vs final total
Libra - $32k, final total $183k (5.7 times day 1 total)
Root Double - $26k, final total $152k (5.8 times day 1 total)
Chrono Clock - $36k, final total $87k (2.4 times day 1 total)
Re:Sharin - $56k, final total $188k (3.6 times day 1 total)
Dies Irae - $63k, final total $224k (3.6 times day 1 total)
Ley Line - $72k, final total $135k (1.9 times day 1 total)
Phantom Trigger - $48k, final total $183k (3.8 times day 1 total)
Fatal Twelve - $19k, final total $50k (2.6 times day 1 total)
Chuusotsu - $5k, final total $24k (4.8 times day 1 total)
Hoshizora No Memoria - $29k, final total $88k (3.0 times day 1 total)
Subahibi - $70k, final total $106k (1.5 times day 1 total)

In sheer number of backers, it managed a grand total of 1,260 backers. That is very much in line with the other recent, full length, no Vita (or Grisaia box) VN Kickstarters, Chrono Clock managed 1,207 backers, Ley Line got 1,498 backers, and Hoshimemo managed 1,363 backers. It did happen to average a somewhat higher amount per backer (aside from the Ley Line trilogy) than those, but otherwise it did very much on par with other recent VN Kickstarters despite a much more significant reputation within the community. That said, with the Kickstarter finished, it remains to be seen though how the title performs going forward once it is on Steam.

After that, the only things left are the aforementioned and Kud Wafter, which I don't think will ever get translated.

The art, resolution and engine hasn't aged that well and is unlikely to go over as well if put on steam, so is only likely to happen if they get some kind of remaster or use the original higher resolution art if they still have it saved.

That particular OELVN probably isn't doing well because it is so niche, but it's probably true that any newcomers this late in the game are probably doomed because of how Sakura Sakura is doing even with a low goal.

Frontwing and Sekai can rely on crowdfunding because they managed to establish a base of crowdfunders. This might also be true for Degica and Mikandi, but they haven't had a second project yet. Fruitbat only made 24k in their last KS, but if they keep goals low, then they might be able to rely on it to some extent.

When Mangagamer does try to crowdfund Koropokkur, I'd imagine they'll end up like Fruitbat Factory. They do have two major advantages though: being a more established VN company and Itaru art. I don't think they'll reach Frontwing and Sekai levels of 6 figs, but 40k seems plausible enough.

It is mostly just the scripts and the 18+ CGs and sprites from what I can tell. Seems most of the larger files will be part of the steam download and the 18+ patch just appends things with the extra content (notice things like data20920 in the original and then data20921 from the 18+release).I assume the BGI engine just reads them that way anyways.

Third line.
>そう言えばそろそろ夏休みだけど、由岐は学校が大嫌いだから休みになるとやっぱり嬉しいのかな?
Originally, she asks Yuki if she's be happy now that summer vacation is coming so she finally won't have to go to school.
In the translated version, she asks Kagami if she's happy about Yuki skipping school (since Yuki is smarter, so Kagami will have an easier time to catch up).

Part of the problem is that Sekai needs to estimate release dates for Kickstarters well in advanced. If MG had to make estimates about a release window for a title that isn't fully translated yet, they would usually be wildly off, especially for titles where they need to wait on the Japanese companies to do something.

Their new problem of putting out a release date in the short term and delaying it (Wagahigh, SakuSaku, Chrono Clock being released before completion) seems to be the product of them wanting to release a title the moment it is finished, and thus putting out a release date before it is finalized as they target the earliest date they potentially could release it. I'm would think for MG something like Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome was completed before the September 8th release date went up. Although the question is why they are doing this, and what comes to mind are either deadlines imposed by either the Japanese side of things or internal deadlines they try to maintain) or they just are trying to rush projects out because people laugh at their backlog and they are shooting themselves in the foot in the process.

> I'm would think for MG something like Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome was completed before the September 8th release date went up.
Eh, MG has plenty of times where they did things pretty last minute. Doddler posted about it plenty of times, and the programmer for New Generation has a whole blog post about what he did.
http://blog.mangagamer.org/2016/11/17/a-kiss-for-the-petals-the-new-generation-programmers-corner/

It's likely that what MG has to do last minute once they announce a release date is consistently less than what Sekai has to do though. I've never seen an MG release be late, but it's not like I've watched them too closely.

Another one here. The retarded way of translating spoken English into Spanish text is something herkz came up with, I'm sure. While I don't think that's the way it should be done, the problem in this case is that the last sentence is spoken in Japanese.

WTF. Does nobody know that you translate English into quoted English in translations? The reason Japan uses English is because it is simple words everyone knows. Since when does everyone go around and know Spanish "because it is cool" in the west?

This is almost as bad as changing meters into yards and such that they did with boob fantasy. (Sorry, I can't remember their stupid translation title because it was a too obscure word).

Another is of course removing honorifics. It is like these translators are terrible at leaving good things alone instead of rewriting content that was never there.
