Don't worry, the chances are you'll find at least one character to like as you play through the games. I remember when I got up to Remilia in EoSD and for some odd reason I found her character premise interesting with the minimal dialogue. This was before I even saw any fan arts of her, meaning it was ZUN art with the funky hands included.

I kinda figured Reimu would acquire so much faith that she'd eventually become some kind of deity or some shit herself, the way Sanae hints at being possible in MoF.

Even if she doesn't, there are at least one or two youkai who'd be interested in keeping her alive for sexy purposes and who could probably pull it off.

Why would ZUN even care about whether his human characters die of old age or not.
At some point in the future, ZUN will get ill and cancel all further productions and you know it.
I can already see it:

Only a matter of time before Yukari completely corrupts Reimu and makes her immortal herself.

If Reimu falls, it wouldn't be surprising if Marisa decides to go down the same route as Alice, that or kill Reimu herself and keep her humanity.

But truth be known, ZUN isn't going to run the series that long. With the current pacing I'd be surprised if they hit 30.

She mentions somewhere in PMiSS something about the number of human burials decreasing, with a higher emphasis on cremation, and this may lead to a decrease in the number of youkai. This may be a commentary on extended food sources for the beasts, but it also may be a direct commentary since she later adds that "[however] even ashes may turn into a youkai."
