1752030 No.1752030 [Reply] [Original]

Aiko is a 32-kilogram female android that Trung began building in August of last year.

"When I was a kid, we watched a lot of anime robots," the 33-year-old told CTV.ca in a phone interview from his parents' home in Brampton, Ont.

Aiko can also distinguish between types of touch to her body and can even make toast.

"Does she have breasts? I will say yes. Does she have nipples? I will say yes. Does she have a vagina? I will say yes. Are there sensors there? I will say yes," he said.

He's developed his own software for her as well. He's actually an out of work programmer. The thing about a trained AI is that it becomes better the more you train it. If his system were open source, then it could be modified so that anyone could run a part of it on their own machines to contribute processing power to Aiko's digestion of information, kind of like SETI. This information could include anything from project Gutenberg to data collected from her sensors to 4chon. Combine that with a fairly powerful machine connected wirelessly to her body to actually run the end result in real time and Aiko could be made into a very convincing paper girl. You can over train neural networks on a limited example set so that they specialize too narrowly and are unable to cope with scenarios that vary too widely from their training set. This AI will never stop learning and has an effectively limitless range of data to analyze, so that particular problem shouldn't arise. Maybe I have low tolerance because I like animu figurines or something...but honestly I don't feel any difference between Aiko and a normal figurine. I'm actually more creeped out by BJDs, which are much less human looking, than I am by Aiko.

I'm very tempted to major in robotics.

Real, life-like, human AI?

A software that you can actually have a human conversation with? A character that can freely navigate a complex environment and quickly and believably interact with it correctly in completely fluid and ever-changing motion patterns? Voice synthesis that sounds real? Believable emotion and reaction to the slightest things that are virtually indesipherable from that of a human?

Decades away. Many Decades. I hope.

Good AI will probably come long before perfectly humanlike AI. I fully expect that the first artificially intelligent robots will be more like Tachikomas than androids, because people are far more willing to tolerate "non-humanness" in something that isn't trying to look human.

>Think for yourself

Think for yourself. Question authority. Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
