Are you a shill or an employee? The release contains wrong TL, bad grammar (which, by the way, is one of the errors shown on the screenshot you are replying to and calling it "punctuation"), typos, missing/extra commas, and wrong honorifics (this I especially don't understand. There are literally fucking rules for honorific usage in this school. Don't put them where they don't belong.)
I am not saying the whole release is bad, just that this is fan TL level. Though, obviously, there are many fan TLs which are better than this, considering every route I've read has all the mistakes listed above.
Also, I didn't post the Marika route screenshot. I'm still on Konomi route.

They are asking money for this translation. I am pointing out clear undisputable mistakes, which can make others decide whether it's worth the $35. That's all. Is there anything from the current hints?

Dominant with nan italicized.

Saying they have a number of titles for romance, science fiction, and fantasy.

Mentions of rocket science and rocketing up the list.

More entries in popular series. Funbag Fantasy Gaiden was already announced, but that still leaves room for at least one more.

A title with a bit of a historical bent. Most likely something historical with the characters made female. Sengoku Rance or a Baseson title are possible.

Something old. Damekoi was already announced.

Something new. Space Live was already announced.

Something borrowed. Is ambiguous. Could mean Marina or where they borrowed Itaru from Key. Could be something now announced yet.

Something BLue… Most likely a BL title. Someone mentioned a possible hint that came from a staff member after Hashihime was announced, so there could be another BL title this year. My bet is Room No. 9.

The marriage hint was already fulfilled by both Magical Marriage Lunatics and Sweet Young Bride.

I mean, I read and enjoyed the fandisc regardless, but I still don't think even pedantic criticism is invalid. I, too, noticed more than a few grammatical mistakes which were a bit glaring. As well as a few lines which didn't seem to make sense in context, which could be anything from a mistranslation to a problem with the original script that was translated directly. Who knows? Nothing that would ruin a read, but it can kind of take you out of it.

Not from what I've read.

Second game has Marina loaned to a former porn star. The person feeling cucked is her college student lover and not her husband.

Third game has Marina loaned to her ex-boyfriend, because her husband wants to intensify the netorase. The ex-boyfriend still loves Marina, but purposely takes things too far so that the couple will end their netorase play, because he views it as harmful. In the end the couple agree to end the netorase play.

Then you have the 2 Gaiden games, which look like they take place before the first game, because of how young Marina looks in them.

I don't think you're too far off base. As a rule, Steam doesn't really like to get involved with things like mods (porn or otherwise) as long as they're hosted somewhere else. Its only when there is some kind of public outcry will they get involved such as with House Party. All it takes is some clown at a major news network to raise a stink like what happened when CNN covered the whole Rapeplay incident to cause Valve to knee-jerk and mass ban out of some sort of PR "solution". I'm not too worried about it, but it remains a possibility that I'm not comfortable with.

Sekai announced French translations of more than a half dozen titles (all doujin stuff) at Otakuthon, but nothing in the way of new announcements.

>>17438169
Something like Gahkthun really isn't at risk even if Steam restricted their standards a tad, as it was able to secure an ESRB-M rating, and MG would go back to getting ESRB ratings if they were forced to for other titles (and others would likely follow them). Something like House Party got push back, though that was easily into ESRB AO territory and was pushing the legal definition of porn, but even then despite the broad news coverage a patch happened to be perfectly fine solution as far as Steam was concerned.

The primary concern though would be for Steam to go after titles with official patches, although the combination of successful titles with patches (such as Nekopara) and unofficial R18 patches of titles like Skyrim make it easier said than done to enforce at this point.

Sorry if this isn't the correct place for these types of posts. I don't tend to read this thread.

Recently I've been playing this game called Hatsukoi (https://vndb.org/v750#main).). I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far, and was pretty disappointed when I found out that it wasn't translated. Apparently there was a defunct translation project several years ago. However, from the scripts that have survived on tlwiki, it's a good thing it was never finished, since many of the lines are blatantly inaccurate. I'm not sure the old translator even knew what passive tense is.

All that being said, I've gotten the desire to take a stab at it myself. The problem is I am not experienced in extracting and reinserting VN scripts. There are a couple well known engines I have been able to figure out using existing tools found on the internet, but most engines are beyond me.

That brings me to my question: Does anyone here happen to be familiar with extracting an xp file? Scenario.xp seems to clearly be the file with the scripts, but I have no clue how to go about it. Again, my apologies if this isn't the correct thread for this.

Sol Press actually said they are working on a solution to offer an R18 physical release as an upgrade during the Backerkit.

They seem to be attempting to please everyone, which from a consumer standpoint is great but could easily lead to them getting in over their heads. Something like the free patch is in line with most of the companies these days, and they just have a stronger attitude than other companies ("patches should always be free" vs "We can only advertise the patch on Steam if we have it free"). Even making it HD is probably more of a requirement to deal with an older 800x600 title today. Some other things they are doing won't do much for sales and in some cases (such as offering multiple physical releases of all ages and R18 if they go through with that), will likely incur significant extra costs. Even something like honorifics, you do have a mix of preferences with the audience, but it probably won't do enough sales wise to justify the costs of the increased work on the script and the increase in technical work and testing that will be required. Even if everything works out here though, it is unlikely to be sustainable with other titles that appear to already be in the pipeline. For Sakura Sakura itself though, despite all the good will it is sure to get from going above and beyond what is normally expected, it still may truggle because it is an older not widely known title without much standing out about it, and they'll probably have a hard time breaking even with the sheer amount of Kickstarter goods being offered unless they exceed their $24k goal by a large margin. .

With regards to the Steam price though, they don't want to run into the issue of the Steam launch being cheaper than the Kickstarter, but they would be better off bumping the on Steam price to $35 and adding a 10% discount for launch than launching at $30 without a launch sale.

Unfortunately I think I'm personally at a dead end with my very limited programming knowledge unless I want to invest a ton of time learning about hex editors and shit. I left a comment on the somewhat active github of the tool that got me halfway to the goal point. The people there seem to increase the scope of the program every now and then so there's a chance they add this BCS file extension if it isn't that much of a bitch to work with.

It seems like they'd already done a newer game from the same publisher, so I think there's a decent chance the encryption style would be the same and that only an offset or something would be different. Sorry for the wordy explanation but that's basically where it stands now and I don't think there's much I can do aside from waiting and hoping for the best.

100% Sengoku. After that, I think it'll be Quest and then maybe 01+02 in a bundle since the original release order was wonky.

I don't know how they'll plan to move more copies of Sengoku other than demosaicing since making it a higher res like they did with 6 sounds unlikely.

They already can. And the vast majority of people who bought Rance VI will have nothing for another year.

The Rance fanbase overwhelmingly would prefer a Quest translation over a Sengoku retranslation which as far as most people is concerned going to effectively be the exact same thing as what was released in 2009 but without mosiacs on the CGs. Given that Alicesoft fans have actually now proven twice that they will actually buy games why not reward that rather than pissing on the fans?

AliceSoft fans did get Evenicle announced which is a pretty big deal. It's the best non-Rance game AliceSoft has released in years and is still relatively new. If MangaGamer does want to try to sneak in Sengoku Rance this is the best and perhaps only opportunity to do so while they still have the hype and goodwill from announcing Evenicle. I do hope they give us Rance Quest+Magnum. I just don't see how they can pass up the money Sengoku Rance would bring in. Going back to translate it later doesn't make much sense so now is the time to announce it.

The Rance fan base is already used to being forced to wait. If they've stuck around this long an extra year or two probably won't drive many of them away while an official release of Sengoku Rance could bring in some new fans because of how addictive and enjoyable the game is. If Sengoku does get announced I expect some tantrums from a few loud individuals followed by begrudging acceptance.

>> No.17449535

>>17449520
Pushing Quest back further will kill any hype or goodwill from Evenicle.

You drastically overestimate the money Sengoku Rance will bring in because everyone has already played it in English before. And it would have to be translated from scratch again and they have already indicated that they want to stage Alicesoft releases so non-Rance/Rance/non-Rance so translating Sengoku Rance again from scratch (considering Arunaru is doing Evenicle) would push Quest back to 2019 and then 01/03/IX/X well into the 2020s.

Sengoku Rance doesn't need a retranslation and translating it again solely to try and grab money using the logic that the fans are used to waiting and will buy anyway is the perfect way to burn any good will you have.

Not like they can contact TakaJun and buy his TL. The guy fell off the face of the internet, and it probably wouldn't be up to their standards anyway. I'd be more irritated if MG didn't re-TL it, honestly, but I have no delusions about being in the majority.

Partially agreed. I think they've indicated that they will do a re-translation in order to keep certain terms consistent. Even if they did a dual release though, it would be two full price standalone releases with an available bundle. This is why Sengoku and Quest needs to be announced at the same time. People new to the franchise will be playing a better version (at least for the translation) of the game and long time fans will have something secured. And, even then, MG could release both games in short time to each other (3-6 months), having both reveneu in short and long term, without eating each other.

I bought Haruka. I bought Rance 5D and I bought Rance VI. I would buy Rance Quest or Rance 01 if they were brought over. I will not buy Sengoku Rance.

And yes it is milking by both Alicesoft and Mangagamer. They know that a Sengoku release instead of a Quest release is not what a majority of the fans in the west want but they're banking on people buying it anyway even if they have already played the game.

It's in the 10-15hr range? Probably closer to 10. There are 2.5 routes (there's a 3P one after you complete the other two) and a lot of endings. It was originally about 4k yen so it's more or less what you'd expect from a half-price title. There are a pretty decent number of H-scenes too 2 in each route, 2 in after stories and like... 1.5 (one scene with two branching variations) in the 3P route if I'm remembering right, if that's something that matters to you.

The only reason I can see this being the case is if you bought the game legally before and years later it's being resold on a different platform. Nintendo is known for that and it does make certain people angry.

But if you pirate it especially something that is not AAA in the first place. It''s wrong due to the fact effort was put into it and time. Many do not get paid much especially Indies and Visual Novel companies. AAA games can take a hit when piracy and they know it. Others can not and it's really a struggle.

Not only that. But the localization of Rance Quest would no doubt drum up a lot of buzz surrounding Rance again in the western audiences.
And Sengoku Rance as stated, got its fan translation almost a full decade ago. Not only will there be people who might have been interested in the game but missed out on it anyway for whatever the reason. There'll be people who hadn't even entered puberty at the time but might very well be interested in the game now.

And what would these people do if Rance Quest caught their interests, if they heard that they should play Sengoku Rance first? Well. Buying it wouldn't be an option. So it'd be a huge missed opportunity. Just bad business sense in general.

I'm sure Aroduc would tell you everyone he asks to do things does absolutely nothing at all, but it's not true. Aroduc saw working with an official company as one way to surmount the technical issues in the game. Doddler asked MG staff, MG met with Softhouse Chara at an industry event, and were turned down. I know for a fact Aroduc also approached Jast (and maybe others) and likely got a similar response.

Similar situation happened before with Romanesque, before Aroduc pulled the kickstarter card and got Jast to take another shot. None of this is really new information though.

And technically, simply putting something on the internet would be opposite of "localization" since it'd be just about the furthest you could get from making something "local". In that sense it'd be more accurate to call Bunny Black globalized or something. Though it still hasn't been official and it hasn't been part of any market.

I want to be able to purchase a real copy of the translation. Preferably in my own market.

Who knows? MG initially cucked Fata from SP so it's possible that they're just going with SP this time to extend the initial courtesy that Sekai gave them. Novectacle has also expressed an interest in crowdfunding post-Fata I believe. Either way, it's kind of a shame if they can't at least get the Fata localization team on this same product - Fata's TL is honestly one of the more polished one's I've read (even if the translator is a huge faggot) and some consistency with the same writer would go a long way. Still, it should be interesting. I believe Novectacle initially wanted to do a TRPG as their studio's first title anyway, as their entire team, from the writer, to the artist, and even the singer all met through their passion for D&D. Bit disappointed that their primary artist isn't working on it, though.

Circus's engine is pretty rough.. there's a reason literally every other game translated into English from them has been ported. I think the only reason they finally decided to update the engine to support English was because of their plans for Space Live.

Gotta remember that some of these companies are pretty old and have been continually building up on top of 10-20 year old systems. The engine moonstone uses for example lists stuff like the early pia carrot games. "Can Can Bunny 1 Primo" is the oldest game that used the engine, released in 1997.

What? The cost of the Japanese voices is one of the biggest expenses. Well, that's what Peter said anyway. They frequently want something like $100k even if VN sales can't support that. That's according to Peter Payne.
