Chaotic is a proper way to describe Zin-Say, I guess.
It's an acquired taste, but their music is too eclectic so you might like some more songs by them.
I always liked this one a lot, sadly I don't know if it was ever recorded on studio
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agg5Euj0ZoI
As for bands like Uchoten, I already mentioned some on the last thread, but bands like Metronome or Himitsu Kessha Codomo A are like a more modern version of Uchoten IMO, or at least the influence is clearly there, the vocalists in those bands also sing in a way similar to Kera.

I recently got into this guys, Yusei Mints, fans of 80s new wave like P-model or uchoten might like them:

I haven't fund much about them, though. Just that the vocalist girl has been in several projects after this band.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJpQkjklnYA
The drummer and bassist left later on, and the band consister of a duo of the vocalist and guitar player, who played acoustic guitar rather than electric, dropping the metal sound and adopting a more neo-folk sound, while still maintaining the same vibe.

Before Oto-Oni, the vocalist was part of a duo called Pink Opaque, where he played bass, did side-vocals and composed/programmed the music. Late Oto-Oni is very similar to Pink Opaque. Can't find anything by them on YT, but if you like Oto-Oni I can upload the Pink Opaque releases, they're not a lot anyway, a mini-album and a couple of loose songs from V.A's. Oto-Oni got to release a full album and a bunch of singles. They stopped activities when the guitarist passed away in 2012.

I don't remember much, but I remember they had 4-6 members. All male, I don't want to say middle-aged but certainly adults, no teens.

In one video they all wore black suits and did a routine in front of a camera.

Second video was on a train station.

I want to say they played some sort of indie-rock with pop and jazz elements, whatever that means.

I'll post a few of my favorite recs. that have yet to be mentioned. If anybody wants a DL link to something below, just ask and I'll throw it up.

My first J-Music rec. is and will always be The Pillows, despite their relative notoriety. An alternative rock band that's still jamming after twenty-eight years, they're best known for the FLCL OST. Their early work was notoriously eclectic, incorporating elements of jazz, rock, jangle pop, and more. Living Field is their definitive album from this time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7rnYJxh4B4
From the late 90's up to today, their sound has become a breed of alternative rock characterized by fuzzy guitars, driving vocal melodies, and tight drumming. Happy Bivouac is my favorite “modern Pillows” album. It's wonderful summertime listening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXIndzsY40M

If you like new wave/post-punk, then you'll love Lizard. Though information on the band is scarce, the quality of their 1979 self-titled album is anything but.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWOKqNKL6IE

Wakusei Abnormal is a female musical duo who released one splendid album before losing their spark, imo. Their singer possesses an enthralling vocal range: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0t8INh05yQ

NOODLES is another all-female group. This alternative rock band is on the softer side. Subtly melancholic melodies, smooth progression, and macaronic lyrics define their body of work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtW1Z_A1gFQ

Arµ-2 and Lee are two electronic producers who cooperatively construct plunderphonics, trip-hop hybrids. The rippling layers of sounds in their works often have an eerie tangibility, as if you could touch them. https://leeeeee.bandcamp.com/album/tanh-2

The guitarist from Tokusatsu, Narasaki, is from the rock band Coaltar of the deepers, so you might want to check it out, I haven't listened much myself so I'm not sure if it's really similar to Tokusatsu.
There's many experimental rock bands, but it's hard to compare them to King-Show/Tokusatsu.
Ningen Isu comes to mind, they also did a song with King-Show not too long ago.
And I don't know why but thinking about bands like King-Show I remembered Seven Seas, a weird "pirate metal" band that had a quirky "anime opening" feel in their songs similar to what Ohken does, maybe.

My all-time favorite if you want to fit in with old people in Japan, one Mr. Tatsuro Yamashita.

Some popular works:

Ride on Time
https://youtu.be/sdBEwe1KKmg

Sparkle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ9pmFMc5oM

Merry Go Round
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMr-VXF4xkY

These were hit singles off of three of his albums, but each one has more to it than just these. Those are 'Ride on Time', 'For You', and 'Melodies', and all three are good. I also like 'Moonglow' and 'Spacy'. But I'm a big fan so I might be biased.

Either way I think this guy rocks, and definitely recommend listening to his music.

As for style, I would call Yamashita's stuff something of a mix of Pop and Funk. It really depends on the song though, there's a range of offerings. I hope you enjoy listening to him as I do.

I have soft spot for it because it was the first thing by them I heard back in 2011. I didn't particularly like the following albums though (the mastering was way too sterile, vocals mixed too low, I suspect that WMG wanted to make them more commercially viable). I liked the Natsu install EP a lot however, it sounded like a return to form for me so I'm looking forward to the new album in a week or so.

Partly, I guess. The band is musically rooted in funk mixing in disco and R&B influence.

When it comes to funk rock my favourite band is THEATRE BROOK with its front-man Satou Taiji. It's based in rock with funk mixed in. Give it a listen. Taiji might seem kind of weird at first since he's clinging to that old now-long-gone ideal of true rock-star but he's really great musician. The only sad thing is that THEATRE BROOK is making new stuff only sporadically now.

I don't know if anyone here cares about electronic music from japan, but there are so many netlabels and such out there who put all there music up for free downloads. My personal favorite is Altema Records. http://www.altemarecords.jp/release/
So many good albums, I especially recommend Go-Qualia and Calla Soiled.
http://tsukasarecords.tumblr.com/ There's also this label with like 30 albums just dedicated to Tsukasa from Lucky Star.
There are a bunch more but I don't know if anyone likes this.

Any of it EDM? If so, anything of the genre specifically that you can recommend?

I have a friend who's really torn up about this whole Trap Nation debacle and I think hearing some good EDM that's definitely unrelated will make her feel better.

This is probably the best place to start, I can recommend Aiobahn's album, the 2 ones by Pa's Lam System and Lolica Tonica's one for starters. EDM doesn't really mean anything to me, since I would probably dance to some good industrial DnB or dark ambient as well but I guess this is kinda what you meant.
Imoutoid's album is legendary, but that's a bit more out there since it samples anime songs.
>>17659959
Well I guess you probably didn't delve in too far. There is a huge variety of electronic music, anything from breakcore, dubstep to ambient, field recordings, cut-up electro and much more.

I think you should definitely give another try, there's all kinds of stuff, you just have to dig a bit. A nice upside is that all this doujin and net music often is released for free online so you don't even have to pirate it.

>> No.17661281

Well, I really like Calla Soiled, THREELAYERSTRUCTURETHEORY is super tech-y and atmospheric, ENDROLL is probably my favorite track.
If you're into Vocaloid you might recognize his songs Sweet Tear and ORBITAL. I'm not a huge fan of vocaloid but I really like his style.
Fantasia For Child In Me is more electronica / ambient. You should probably already know Green Night Parade.
Plus Minus has some really good anison mashups.
Haven't gotten through all the Tsukasa Records stuff yet, but the Megamix 2 is a nice sampler.
3x6 sent me some of his remixes recently if you like it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwl8EugH6qOOVG1TcDdIeXlJWjA/view
