Was thinking about moving to Japan for a few years when I'm better off/a little older - if only for the experience alone. Just curious, sagely 4channers, about a few things.

1) How hard is it to become accustomed to living there. IE, difficulty of learning the language, contrasts between there and western countries (particularly Britain, which is where I'm holed up now)
2) How hard, as an estimate, would it be to immigrate to there?

(prepares for stupid answers)

>> No.174237

why would you want to go to japan

because you are weaboo?

>> No.174241

1) Like anything, it would take an enormous amount of effort if you are really dedicated to this.

2) If you have money, easy. Even better if you have a good education.

1. Pretty easy to get accustomed to life, if you have an open mind.

2. You have NO chance to immigrate as a permanent resident. You have to have an absolutely perfectly clean criminal background, a real job (not just being a bartender), must have lived in the country for 5 to 8 years, and must be married to a japanese. And you have to renounce all other citizenships and adopt a japanese name.

>> No.174263

Firstly, let's start with some environmental factors there.
1. Japanese: must be a fluent writer/speaker in order to actually immigrate there, and get a job.
2. Prepare for an average of a 52 hour work-week, opposed to the average 40 hour work week.
3. Natural disasters: not entirely uncommon, make sure you have the knowledge to deal with them.
#Note: Japan is quite similar to western countries in some regards, perhaps the most noticable differences are language, and popular food selection.

How old are you? I mean, "sagely?", "4channers?"

1. Being "accustomed" to living there is easy enough if you're not like one of those amerifag brutes with no consideration for others. You might miss not being able to buy things in bulk packs and some foods from your own country however.

2. It involves lots and lots of paperwork, and cold stares from the Japanese due to one foreignfag messing it up for the rest. Have fun.

To any americans that want to become japanese, just as a note, it is much harder to get rid of american citizenship than it is to get one.

Mostly because the US is one of the few countries that still taxes you US taxes even if you live overseas, and the IRS considers it tax evasion if you try and give up your citizenship.

knowledgable?

1) lots of people have permanent resident status, you only need to be there for 5 years, you don't have to be married (the overwhelming majority are though, and only because what reason would they have to settle there unless they were starting a family?) and they don't do any "character checks" like you would get if you're looking to naturalize.

2) Are you sure you're not getting confused with naturalization requirements? No country forces you to render yourself stateless for permament resident status, but even for naturalization there is no rule that you have to be married (though the guys assessing you would see it as a sign of assimilation into the culture)

3. "real job" is only a hard lined requirement for work visas because only big companies can sponsor foreigners, and that's how the entire work visa program is set up. They expect you to have a decent income when applying for permament residency however since there's no sponsor it doesn't have to be a big company. You could be a big shareholder or have your own online business and as long as the money is decent they would accept it.

4) getting accustomed to life is the difficult part for any westerner, and only because you feel so alone over there. Sure the people are nice, friendly, you don't get beat up by kids if you walk the street at the wrong time, food is great but unless you have started a family you will always feel so alone over there. Lots of foreigners are over there, but as anyone who has passed through a japanese airport will attest to like 95% of them are asian. You feel like a mexican if mexicans were scarce and didn't have all their mexican buddies around them and only had english speaking whiteys to speak to everyday.

It's just really unfortinuate that it is a balls hard country to fit in to if you're not asian.

Japan will have to open it's borders more in the near future, it's current policies and attitudes just aren't sustainable. However I am fairly certain that when they do it's going to be all chinese and koreans going over and no one will be able to tell.
