Recommend me some good non-anime Japanese movies, preferably ones that I can find at a good movie rental place or online. Pic unrelated.

Seven Samurai.
Easily one of the ten best movies ever made by simple virtue of being an ordinary movie often mistaken for a samurai movie.

>> No.1736250

Google, do use it.

Anyhow, 7 Samurai is a must see for everyone. It's really a phenomenally great flick. Over 50 years old and have not outdated a single bit. Definitely one of the best movies I ever saw.

Depending on who you talk to, Battle Royale is either awesome or it's shit.

Films by Kurosawa Akira are excellent.
My favorite two (although I haven't seen a lot) are Seven Samurai and Ran.

>> No.1736261

Ran is good, I was bored out of my mind by Yojimbo, though.

It's incredibly good. But it's 50% psychological drama, 40% social critique, 10% action movie.

Tasogare Seibei (Twilight Samurai or some shit like that in English)

Was on tv yesterday, or day before yesterday. Wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be pretty good.
