Today I reached 5k words with vocab in Anki. At the moment it feels as though it will take to at least 20k words before every new volume of manga doesn't involve mining between 20~100 unknown words. There are only six manga series so far in my mined word corpus but in another 12 months if could be interesting to contrast with something like the vocabulary from the Core decks.
The pre-made vocab deck I'm using in Anki has a fair bit of overlap with the Core decks.

Does anyone else keep track of where they are mining their words from?

Every day I take about a 30 minute to hour long walk and I multi-task by learning something like the history of classical music, or some fundamentals of physics, etc. I want to shift over to Japanese, which I took about two years of in high school.

I have been reading some short stories, going for those that are recommended as simple and are accompanied by readily-available audiobooks-朗読 and translations.
So far I’ve gone through “Japanese Graded Readers” (only those few volumes that can be found online), then トロッコ、蜘蛛の糸、羅生門、藪の中 (that one was very fun) and now am reading こころ。
With those last ones old writings have begun to get in the way of reading a wee-bit. They are not a great hamper, but usually an interruption and a stumble.

Stylistic furigana for novels is common. When you really know your kanji, you realise that many spellings are just arbitrary conventions, easily broken.

6) Supposing new kanji DO get created, Unicode will add them, because Unicode is the unified code, and its modus operandi is encoding all writing systems, especially major ones like Chinese and Japanese.
7) In practice, Unicode has 100% coverage when encoding any known writing that contains kanji, except when those kanji are ligatures (like biang biang noodles' hanzi), historical and obscure and forgotten, stylistic variations of other encoded kanji, or not real kanji.
8) 100% coverage over more than nine samples is statistically significant, and there are more than nine samples.
9) Given the above, the burden of proof on Unicode not encoding all kanji is on the one who wants to say it doesn't. The four exceptions I have listed are the only known situations where Unicode does not necessarily encode something for the CJK culture group.

Aside from references, the proof is as complete as any proof of anything that isn't purely mathematical.

When you put a proper noun at the end of a sentence it's normal to assume that you're just playing with the sentence order and omitted the relevant particle. E.G. 何言ってるんだ、お前(は)? The AJATT site* suggests Yahoo's online dictionary** is a good source with accurate English translations (the author also says the example sentences from Jisho.org are not so reliable in terms of accuracy), but most of the AJATT site was written ~10 years ago (the page in question seems to be 11 years old now), so there might be better resources around now which aren't mentioned there.

I think I read 30 complete VNs spread out over 60 or so half-read games (I don't read every route in nukige or moege) before dropping texthookers. It took a bit but when I stopped using it I could casually read most anything I wanted. By the end of it each VN was only taking a week or so, too. God bless hikineet life.
I did use a mining deck. I added any word with kanji I don't know into it, logic being I could look up words with kanji I knew on my own, but I needed a text hooker to look up kanji quickly without being stuck radical searching for hours. No quota.
Advice for text hookers: One, removed any romaji or furigana shown whatsoever. The texthooker should show exactly what the VN shows (until moused over of course) to stop you from reading from the texthooker instead of the game (which furigana will strongly encourage). Two, spend time thinking before checking the texthooker. It's very easy to just end up reflexively looking up a word in the texthooker instead of thinking which is bad since it's brainless and you will probably end up looking up words you would've remembered if you waited. Otherwise there's not much to say. Even using texthooker's kinda bad is okay as long as you're comprehending the text and looking at the kanji and stuff.

I'm also not sure what the meaning of なら is here, since I can't detect any if-then relations or something between the two clauses.
I appreciate any help. Context is one girl being envious of the other because the other girl doesn't get fat even when eating a lot (pic related is some previous lines).
