They're just too weird and inconsistent. Plus new content is hardly translated so its hard to get into it for people that arent versed in the language. Plus doesn't the most active Yukkuri poster use a hard to translate form of the language as well?

Personally as a newcomer I actually haven't had enough of abyuse material (there's something cathartic about a non living pastry that you can abuse with a clear conscience because it was made for that). After reading through everything from the widely known authors like kiriraitaa, takumi, and big.g I'm actually kind of in an abyuse content drought because there's no way to find the other really good stuff unless you manually parse through the past decade of material. I really wish there were some widely voted on list of great works from back in its heyday. The closest thing I have, really, is to sort OYP pools by largest post count. Or maybe there weren't they many great works to begin with, I dunno. I really don't mind how formulaic every story beat is as long as the premise or creativity of the abyuse is fun.

I was on the Touhou wiki and I clicked on the Yukkuri page. At first all I know about them was they were those meme heads, but I was utterly floored and fascinated by the sheer amount of lore that had been made for these things. I found True Happiness later, got totally absorbed into this abyuse stuff, and now I'm just lamenting the fact I'm several years late to the party.

I don't know why I love abyuse so much. I don't like guro. I don't like fluffy abuse. I definitely don't like animal abuse or IRL abuse. But the fact that these are foodstuffs, made to be consumed, that bleed bean paste and pee sugar water, just makes my conscience go on a vacation and tantalizes the imaginative sadist in me.

While it's undeniable that Yukkuris are in decline, I wouldn't say that it's in the worst shape. There are stories being made, Takumi still updates sorta frequently, and considering (IMO) Touhou seems to be seeing a bit of a resurgence at the moment, maybe the rising tide will lift Yukkuris up as well.
But the biggest reason I'm saying this is this game. Seriously all of you people are just sleeping on this cuz this is amazing. This game has given me more entertainment than Simyukkuri or any of Bluesnow's games combined. Hell, I'm ashamed to say it's probably in the top 10 longest playtime of all games I've played this year. This game goes deep when it comes to the freedom of actions for abyuse. Everything you can do in True Happiness you can do in this. The AI is the most developed of all the Yukkuri games (for what that's worth) and has a lot of dynamic dialogue. Unlike Sim (which is rudimentary and "Java" as fuck and mostly gets its fun out of seeing what kind of clusterfuck happens when you spawn 100 Yukkuri) or Diary (which skimps hard on abyuse due to threats, simple AI, a dev that has no focus, and frankly ugly Yukkuri that make me realize they should have never made the transition to 3D) this game is basically an expansive abyuse suite focused on player/Yukkuri interactions while also including plenty of friendly and cute options, that also has the best artstyle by far out of all the games. The best part is that it's still being actively updated every week with new features and bugfixes, and this guy has been working on this for 4 years. Just last week he added stalk birth. There's even an active translation which translated most of the ko's dialogue by this point. I probably sound like a shill, but I cannot believe how little attention this is getting, compared to how popular Sim was back in the day. Here's a download link:

There's a instruction manual .html you can run through Google Translate included in the game files, and for anything not covered in that there's a pastebin floating around in the OYP forum discussion for the game.

>>17322425
It used to be obtuse, but now it's literally just drag and drop. You used to have to decompile the program or something but now it's just editing a text file that anyone can edit. Every so often somebody updates the translation. Considering that and how all game breaking bugs are parched out now, it's probably the most accessible it's ever been.

Excerpt from the December 15th issue of the Bunbunmaru Newspaper:

"A Miss Marisa Kirisame was found bloodied and unconcious outside of the Scarlet Devil Manor. Gateguard Hong Meiling had found Kirisame-san in a crater near her station on the 14th. 'She looked like she pissed off someone really strong', Miss Meiling has stated during an interview. It is unclear why Miss Kirisame was in such a state, but it may have something to with the strange lights seen near the Hakurei Shrine on the night of the 13th. Investigation is ongoing."

when a yukkuri gets impregnated, typically they will sprout a "stalk" from their head that baby yukkuries will start to grow on. this consumes a bit of themselves to do so, since they have to create it out of the stuff inside their bodies.
typically it takes a little while for a baby to grow properly and there shouldn't be more than one stalk at once.
what's happening there in that picture is that since it's being raped repeatedly, stalk after stalk is being forced to sprout from its' body, consuming the entire substance of the yukkuri in the process.

They were cool, but the west only got the shit end of the stick and found them when 2channel and Shitaraba users started hated seeing Yukkuris everywhere, which is coincidentally when we started seeing cute comics by Makoko about them. Plus, Menchi/Shii's "Church of the Latter Day Yukkuri" page (on the same host as One Yukkuri Place) only documented Yukkuri Abuse artists, so people only got the abyuse idea and didn't see all the cool AA/SJIS Yukkuri art before things went downhill.

In short, they were cute, but since people were only shown all the abyuse, all the sensible people were like "ew" and walked away. Now, we just got freaks who obsess over bodily functions or whatever.

Yukkuri practically exist for abyuse, everything about them since like 2010 are designed specifically to cater to abyuse. They're made out of processed food instead of flesh so it's not gory/squicky to kill them and it adds quite a few layers of depth to stories, like having them be the absolute bottom of the food chain in the wild, or having them be ingredients in intricate dishes. Their personalities are either a mix of the worse aspects of toddlers and arrogant people's personalities in order to make them prime justifiable targets, or so sweet and cute that the series of unfortunate events that befall them become an ironic tragedy through contrast. The whole "magical meme head in Gensokyo" thing died quite early on.
Personally I like it, there's something about Yukkuris that appeals to me where jissousekis or fluffies don't. Maybe it's just the sheer amount of potential that abyuse stories can have. Maybe it's because stepping on a bean puff is hilarious while torturing a retarded pony hits too close to our IRL sensibilities against hurting animals. Maybe it's just the inherent cute artstyle that artists here tend to have. Who knows?

There's a summary in the comments. http://oyp.yunyah.com/posts/19577

>In his fridge, there is a jar. Inside it is a baby Marisa, along with a bit of food and 2 pieces of tissue paper. With the winter-simulated conditions, it has wrapped itself in the tissue paper, and licks the food as it shivers. (Picture) Unlike the others, the only food Anon will give it is already in its jar; once it is finished, that's it. Baby Marisa licks the sweet and wonders when mister spring will finally come.

>Anon had told it before putting it into the fridge that when spring came, it could take it easy. Though it adheres to that belief, Anon has no intention of taking it out. The yukkuri this time is smarter, eating its food in small amounts, and has suffered in the cold for many days because of that. Finding that pitiful, Anon left sweets just outside the jar where it can see, making it bite and lick at the jar. It will continue to wait for spring until it dies.

I think there was that doujin about a doctor who bought a Yukkuri Reimu from store to give her a body and rewrite her memory through medical means so he could "replicate" his deceased daughter, and make the Yukkuri believe so herself (so the Yukkuri basically become full human).
Though, the Yukkuri eventually realized about her true nature and run away by separating herself from the body.
