soup /jp/,
wee/a/boo here looking to get into some VN's. Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. If there is a /jp/ guide to VN's already out there, post a link. As far as games go, I was thinking about starting off with FSN and maybe Chaos;head.

Pic related, I'm about as clueless as he is

>> No.1717115

Do Tsukihime before F/SN. Also, you may want to wait for Chaos Head to get its final translation patch.

>> No.1717114

Tsukihime, Kanon, Clannad. Start with these, you'll be fine.

>> No.1717116

guide? wtf
just start with either ever17, fate, chaos;head, tsukihime and then come back
for dramu romance comedy try crescendo, clannad, one, ymk, edelweiss

>> No.1717120

>>1717114
This.

Also, Narcissu.

>> No.1717125

tsukihime and fsn are the only vans worth playing

>> No.1717132

yeah, ok, but where is a good place to DL them, run them, and how do you apply patches etc.

I've heard there is a lot involved

>> No.1717135

>>1717132
For patches you'll need GNU patch:

http://www.gnu.org/software/patch/

>> No.1717137

Tsukihime's a safe bet to start. I started with it, and frankly, the whole thing quite blew me down on my behind. Never could have imagined something so simple and even cheesy could evoke so strong emotions in me.

ok so using Tsukihime as an example, where could a go and get it

>> No.1717166

>>1717162
Google it. Finding a torrent for it is easy.

>> No.1717170

search torrent sites like tt, isohunt, hongfire for the isos or irc like someone else mentioned yestersay (I think it was rizon #hentai-games)
games that need to be patched would be clannad, fate, tsukihime, one, chaos;head, the rest are localized pirated gaems that don't need patches
for the patches try the groups hp like mirrormoon or /rs/, where you should find the patches for one and clannad

>> No.1717171

Tsukihime, Phantom of Inferno, Ever17 and Clannad. Dont bother with FSN, it's shit.

>> No.1717182

>>1717171
OH YOU TRIPLE 17 FAG

Japan decided FSN being a 90+ gaem, don't bother us about it

>> No.1717192

>>1717095
I'd say you start with smaller stuff, with more straightforward story.

Get Kana Little Sister , Yume Miru Kusuri, Crescendo, True Remembrance etc.

Then get stuff like Tsukihime, Clannad, Ever 17, Phantom of Inferno (huge and many things to follow, and will take you long without a guide)

>> No.1717227

Tsukihime and Fate/stay night

rest are shit

>> No.1717236

kanon and clannad

rest are shit

>> No.1717238

What the shit? No mention of Umineko no Naku Koro ni? Weak.

>> No.1717242

Do not start with FSN no matter what.
It's not bad but it really doesn't work as a starter VN, same for Chaos, Head.
Tsukihime, Kana, Kanon, Narcissu, Planetarian, Clannad or Ever17 are better choices.

>> No.1717243

>>1717238
It's not something I'd suggest at someone starting fresh.

That's because you can't play it without playing Higurashi.

Download from here. I'd recomend Umineko, it's awesome.

>> No.1717300

Start with Planetarian. It's short and straight foward, the plot runs from start to finish with no choices to make, so it's impossible to get a bad end (dohoho) and you should be able to read it all in one sitting.

>> No.1717306

It wasent a gaem

>If there is a /jp/ guide to VN's already out there, post a link
We should do this, the number of "I'm new to VNs, recommend me how to start" is getting annoying.
But of course, we will devolve into a screaming match about which ones should go into it.

>> No.1717320

>>1717307
The ones based on a somewhat realistic setting(aka, no weird world or terms to figure out), have a straightforward story and are translated.
And Planetarian/

No need. Keep opinions out of it. A basic guide to getting shit to work so people don't ask stupid questions combined with a list of all games available in English is all that's necessary. If they want a review, they can plug one of the names into fucking google if they don't want to lurk more.

>> No.1717364

>>1717344
Shouldn't we just link them to http://vndb.org/v/search?sq=english then? A list of all english vns with links to where to get them. If they can't even apply patches they are beyond help.

I have more tolerance for those that are too stupid to use computers than for those that are too lazy to use google. But I'm not volunteering to make the thing, so if you want to do it you can do it however you want.

Running an .exe is as easy as google, although for games like Kanon and Clannad you do have to overwrite the seen file. I don't have any interest in creating a list or guide either and I don't think my power level is high enough to do so anyway.

But that's not always all there is. I mean, I remember seeing some threads a while back about F/SN not working with applocale and having to enable Japanese and shit for it to work. I dunno because I japped up my computer a long time ago, but there's some shit like that probably.

Not only that, who the fuck could recommend Jingay Makyou or Lost Child for action and not Ayakashibito or Ayakashi.
Or for fantasy, who the fuck could put Alice FUCKING Parade?
Try Forest or something.
And good job recommending the 2 worst titles from Littlewitch.
Though it should be obvious that that recommendation list fails since you can't see Sharin no Kuni anywhere.

Actually, I'm quite happy that /jp/ (and especially one anonymous that took the time to screenshot and give short reviews of his VN folder) is being helpful on that part.

To Whomever starting with VNs....

I actually paid for it. Ever 17, I mean. The one instance in which I'll drop money on games is when I think the release is make-or-break for the publisher in terms of staying in business / publishing more shit like that.

Of course, Hirameki is out of the biz now, and it's back to badly-translated porn (Mangagamer) and sporadically released VNs of variable quality (PP).

>> No.1717454

>>1717450

Well mind you, now that I know what it means to read a good VN, I'd shell out money on the spot for 'em. If only to tell them "Hey, I like your stuff, gimme more of it".

But it seems, I'm like 1-2 years late ;_;

Did you ever read that other VN they did, the one based on Ai Yori Aoshi? Didn't expect much, so I didn't bother with it, but I'm wondering if it's worth going back to.

>> No.1717505

I've only seen (or slept through) the anime adaptation. This prevented me from caring about this particular VN because I'm expecting a standard fare harem-y snorefest.

MAybe another Anonymous can deny/attest to this assumption of mine.

And to stand true to my statements I just ordered Princess Waltz. On the same vein, are there some legally available Nitro+ VNs out there? (nono, not the PlayAnime DVD shit PoI had to suffer through, the proper software stuff)

>> No.1717515

Despite what people say, Jingai Makyou is good. Not great, doesn't deserve hype, lots of Nasu-quality scenes with food... But it's good. I love the protagonist.
