So do people who sell stuff at Comiket actually make money? Or is it mainly just a hobby to be making doujin stuff?

>> No.1714724

>> No.1714725

>> No.1714726

Hobby. The money they make covers their costs of producing and the rest will go towards the printing expenses for the next release.

>Or is it mainly just a hobby to be making doujin stuff?
Unless a circle is big and successful enough, they usually lose money rather than making. Also most people sell a limited number of copies.

>> No.1714734

I suppose the really popular ones must make some profit.

Mostly hobby, from what I hear it barely covers the expenses of making the stuff for most of them if they're lucky.

It depends on each creator.
Over 99% of them can't even cover the costs of making their doujin things.
Some people can earn lots of money.

And a few people, like Ryuukishi07, live by the profits of their doujin things.
For them, doujin is one of business styles. If everyone gets their works illegally, they can't live.

Jap companies don't sue. They don't even C&D. They don't care.

Going after doujin artists would buy the rage of thousands of potential costumers so they turn a blind eye on them. Specially because doujin artists aren't exactly pirating anything or damaging the income of the original work they parody.

DO NOT STEAL is an american thing.

There's also plenty of cases of major companies like Nintendo and Capcom(?) complaining about doujins. But in general, at least the part of he industry that thrives on otaku, moe, and/or come from the doujin scene themselves overwhelmingly turn a blind eye or even promote doujin artists (like TYPE-MOON got Kalmia, prolific FSN doujin artist, to draw Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya).

But 5000 yen is equal to 6 hours of part time job.

It is the doujin world.
