benben is qt as fuck, her sister is bland.
her fight is very creative too, with curved lasers covered in notes creating the illusion of sheet music. yatsuhashi's bouncing notes aren't nearly as exciting.

illusory joruri is one of the best themes in the game too.

Benben used to be my favourite DDC. Her bare legs, combined with an outfit that makes me think "country girl," and her slightly haughty personality just endeared her to me from the start.

Oh, nice. I actually wanted to create a thread for instruments yesterday, but decided against it because it would just die with ~10 posts (likely fate of this thread). Although it's not because I like them. It's just depressing to see how low their popularity is.
On the other hand, Touhou already has Prismriver sisters, so it is understandable, sort of.
What is NOT understandable is how non-persons like Koakuma or Momiji are popular.
In order to save this thread from death, I announce the change of direction. Now it's for music-related touhou pictures.
This includes: instrument tsukumogamis, Prismrivers, Chooju Gigaku and everything else which is related to both Touhou and music. It wouldn't help this thread much, would it?

There are lots of Touhous, right?
When there are so many, and they're all designed and written by the same guy, there are only three ways a 2hu is going to stand out:
1. Being a playable character
2. Fulfilling someone's fetish
3. Having a personality that clicks with someone

The instrument 2hus are not playable in any game, and don't really fulfill any fetish. Their personalities don't stand out, especially being in the same game as the cute girl who desperately pretends to be human and and nutjob contrarian. Honestly, the instuments don't even get the award for being the most boring.
Daiyousei, Koakuma and Momiji on the other have an extremely popular personality in that they do not have a canon personality. This leaves you free to imagine them having whatever personality you want. Is Koakuma a slutty /ss/ succubus? Is she a loyal, submissive, familiar? Or is she a smug, prankster imp? None is any more correct than any other. You're free to pick whatever you like the most.
Look at it like this: in any video game that has one, the create-your-character option is always popular, no matter how good the actual characters in the game are. Momiji & company are the Touhou equivalent of the create-your-character option.
