This is a thread to pay respects to the now discontinued Aizu-Wakamatsu station stream

-share what you have collected over the years
-what are some of your favorite memories of the station?
-discuss future streams we can follow

>but nobody else seemed interested.
I wouldn't say that, I think its just then general indecisiveness and passiveness that, and I shouldn't be speaking for everyone, this board personifies in a way with the ゆっくりしていってね! attitude.

I think the indicative guidelines developed so far were:

> must be from Japan, interesting, minimum 480p, constant stream (none of those 2-frame-per-second streams), with ambient sound preferred.

These were the non-train ones I like:

Shibuya scramble crossing

Hokkaido 4x webcams

Yokohama Port

>expanding the thread to more of a Japan webcam general.
As long as these are public CCTV feeds, I'm game. I don't want "pro-content." I want the realness.

>> No.16806366

This was the main candidate for the new train station webcam.

The problems I think were its pitch black at night, its really slow like it a rural non-main station.

I'd love to have Aizu-Wakamatsu representation in the team, but it's never got the necessary amount of votes in the polls we've done. Next poll should happen before the Summer Cup, which will probably be in August, so keep an eye out for banners around then.

Regardless even if doesn't make it as a player, it'd be nice to have it represented in the team as a kit or something.

We've had polls? How would I find the next poll?

And are you the manager? If so, how did you find this post so fast and good job getting to the QF shame about the PSO.

>Regardless even if doesn't make it as a player, it'd be nice to have it represented in the team as a kit or something.
That would be very nice but like I alluded to its not a big deal. Its just I thought it would be nice as a 4cc fan and given how long we've had these threads (since 2009ish).

>> No.16806523

Last poll we had was before Autumn 16. We purchased self-serve ads to avoid having to make threads and getting them deleted, so if you use adblock you may not have seen it. We also post links to it on the team's wiki page.

>And are you the manager? If so, how did you find this post so fast

Yeah, I'm one of the managers. I spend most of the day here and check out most threads that are not generals.

>and good job getting to the QF shame about the PSO.

Thanks! Winter was a very fun cup, I loved the /vp/ match.

If you want to talk more about the team, you can email [email protected] It's always nice to talk with fans but I wouldn't want to derail the thread.

I love the way Japanese rail looks like through videos. This is my first time visiting /jp/ and I didn't realize there'd be a rail thread here.

I've finally got round to watching a stream I found a few days ago: Yunokami-Onsen Station

This is actually just down the line from our old Aizu-Wakamatsu station, but unfortunately the trains terminate a couple of stations before Aizu. I think it's a nice station, but like Bessho, it's very slow, with a train roughly every 30 minutes or so. It's a constant stream with decent quality, but no sound. It also gets very dark at nights. The trees alongside the tracks are apparently cherry, so it might be worthwhile dropping by during sakura season for the view, but I think Bessho is a better stream.

>> No.16809258

That is an excellent find! Thanks for sharing.
I'd agree to make this one of the new cameras.

Because of this stream I've been streaming some densha de go every now and then. No commenting or stupid jokes, just some good old trains. I'd invite you guys over but I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing you'd enjoy.

My favourite part of Japan is the back-country, since it resembles the quaintness of where I grew up, and has lots of natural beauty. One day I'd just love to get into a train, and ride through the countryside or up north around Hokkaido (which alone is twice the size of the country I live in now). I can't count how many hours I've spent on Google Earth just plucking down the streetview in some random area out in the boonies, and just exploring around, amazed by the natural beauty of the mountains or the fields or the rivers.

Anyway, I don't definitely want to say the shutdown of the webcam is because of the decline in daily ridership, but if it is I worry about the future of the railways. How much longer until more and more lines start getting discontinued because no one rides them, or it's just impractical to keep them going? That'd be really sad.

My understanding is alot of the foreigners are from other Asian countries so you can't really tell. its not the stereotypical whites / blacks.

>> No.16832322

There are a lot of foreigners in Japan these days.
A lot.
Specially in industrial and high populated areas.

>> No.16832391

If you can't pick apart a natural Chinese and Korean from a Japanese, or any SEAsian, you best get out more. But there are more and more whites and blacks in Tokyo every year. If you just look at any video taken in Shibuya, Roppongi or even Shinjuku, basically near any major area you'll see a bunch of blacks or darker skinned in the background, along with whites every now and then. There's a growing Brazillian community in Japan as well.

>> No.16832491

Yeah Tokyo (Shibuya, Roppongi Shinjuku), I can understand since its a "global" "cosmopolitan" city. Are they permanent residents / citizens there though? I though long-term residency in Japan was supposedly hard.

>> No.16833586

A permanent visa is harder than a lot of western countries but not impossible, it mostly involves staying for a long time on another visa (often a spouse visa) in the first place. Not many people want citizenship since the requirements are steeper and it's (in theory if not practice) exclusive.

Also Shibuya and Roppongi (and Akiba) have more foreigners comparatively, but they're not at all representative of the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, not to mention the rest of Japan.

I hardly meet any foreigners here who are real otaku. Often it's just people who are like "yeah I love anime like bleach and that other one I forgot the name of!" or whatever. Either that or people with no interest whatsoever.

I don't know why anyone would choose to live here if they weren't into 2D and didn't have a major Japanese girl/boy fetish.

Yeah, their average adult life is not very glamorous. I do not envy the salary life at all. What's even worse is if you're a temp or unstable part time worker with little to no training or education. I think Japan is one of the worst modern countries to be financially unstable in. Also, their future economic outlook is not making anything look better. It seems like Japan is slowly sinking from the economic world leader it once was.

>> No.16891779

>I think Japan is one of the worst modern countries to be financially unstable in
I don't know, the US and UK sure take the cake for that in terms of modern countries. There aren't many places I'd want to be poor in, but from what I've experienced in Japan as a student on exchange, I'd definitely prefer being unstable in Japan than anywhere else without a proper welfare system.

>> No.16891848

I think their good welfare system counterbalances the difficulty of finding any additional part time labor (I don't say this from experience, just perception).

Then again, many NEETs are capable of living off both of their parent's pensions. (2 pensions can support 3 people supposedly) so you're right about welfare making it much easier on the poor.

I feel as if in the US you can pick up work easily for around 70-100USD a day if you can into physical labor

Well, currently there should have enough part time job vacation available in Japan, to a point that certain convenience store chain owner claimed that they have difficulty in finding part time workers for their shop.

interesting. I've always had an interest in how the native less educated young demographic manages to live in Japan. >> No.16892513

>It's basically working and still being below poverty line.
I see. So it's a difficult path to take unless you have some niche job lined up. Seems like higher ed. is the only sane option over there for a stable income.

Even well paying construction requires some higher level specialization/training

>> No.16892811

I have just read a Japanese report that said some workers are demonstrating that the government shall raise the minimum wage to 1500 Yen per hour. Many people think that is unrealistically high. However a comment said that a 1500 Yen/hour job is high-paying, but if you multiply that by 8 hours a day and 20 days a month, 240k Yen/month seems pretty normal, and if you multiply it by 12, 2.88M Yen/year seems poorly low, and another commentor pointed out that such conceptual difference is because of overtime compensation and yearly bonus, which normal workers have already get accustomed to as part of their salary but part time workers does not enjoy. Other commemtors also pointed out that 1000 yen/hour might seems sufficient for a high school student but 1500 is about the minimal level that can support the life of an adult in society

Yeah it was organic as far as I'm aware.

Basically before the /jp/-/a/ split, old school /a/ used to have live webcam threads, nicodouga threads and of course 2hu threads. And from the webcam threads this Aizu camera was the most prominent and so when the other cameras died and after the 2 boards split, this Aizu cam eventually and organically got its own thread - and became dedicated over time with more and more regular posters. All the more reason its so sad this has ended. Literally /jp/ history with old school /a/ roots. Plus I think the fact that densha otakudom is the most "dangerous" and stereotypical had something to do with it. Pic related.

At least this is my hazy combined recollection and understanding of this history.

I'm guessing that politics mostly refers to netouyo
If we're talking about Nate Silver-type data freaks, I'd stick them right above love otaku, since they can appear rational enough to gain widespread acceptance by media but be crazy enough to believe that their models can routinely predict election results

Japanese train otaku generally have a reputation for being some of the most socially incompetent individuals out there with character traits resembling borderline autism spectrum disorders

Watch the first episode of tetsuko no tabi for a better depiction of the stereotype. Remember - he's 40 years young:

>Japanese train otaku generally have a reputation for being some of the most socially incompetent individuals out there with character traits resembling borderline autism spectrum disorders
Stereotypes are bad anon. All otaku have their group of socially incompetent individuals with character traits resembling borderline autism.

The guy who organizes/runs the Tadami-sen viewing/drinking trips rides the line over 100 times a year, keeps handwritten notes of the trains, has massive printed books of all the train schedules in the prefecture but doesn't fit that stereotype at all.

>> No.16902707

I was more trying to explain why train otaku are placed the way they are on the chart in >>16899023, rather than justify the underlying stereotypes

You are right, stereotypes aren't reflective of reality and I didn't mean to imply that.

I fully stand by my comments on politics otaku though, which are based on personal experience and 110% true

I'm not really into trains THAT much, but I find smaller trains that go around the countryside to be very charming.
