Tell us about your solitary adventures in the world of otaku, the media you're reading or watching but have nobody else to talk to about either because it was over a long time ago or simply because nobody on this side of the international date line cares.

On my end, right now I'm listening to archived web radio streams for anime that finished airing last decade. What obscure pursuits are you all up to?

Currently angry that someone outbid me on an auction for all kino no tabi light novels. I've been bidding on a few old LN auctions recently on yahoo. Got myself most Slayers volumes, GInkon, FMP, Divided Frontier, 星虫, D crackers, アンダー・ラグ・ロッキング, and a few others. Just a bit bothered I haven't found any good auction on Boogiebop but I got the first volume on amazon anyway, along with Bianca which I heard is interesting.

I'm in a similar time zone to Japan, but ignoring that; Im watching Corpse Princess. Its not that fantastic in terms of story and has a number of shounen traits, but I really like the setting and how some of the characters and backgrounds are depicted.

I like to watch sprite and MMD skits on Nicovideo but I'm not confident in my Japanese to wwwwwwwpost on the comments and am usually not caught up anyway.

>a number of shounen traits
Reminder that "shounen" refers to manga publishing demographics and one of the most popular ones to boot, consumed by nearly all other demographics and containing stories from nearly all manner of genres. Unlike "Shoujo" or "Josei" which are more narrow in scope nd have more easily defined aesthetic qualities, "Shounen" says absolutely nothing about the generic quality or style of a manga, let alone an anime.

Basically, you should never use a demographic category to refer to generic conventions (because it's smarter to use, you know, genres), it doesn't even apply to anime originals because those aren't published by manga houses, and "shounen" in particular is the absolute worst one to use to refer to anything specific because it's so broad in both readership and content.

Just a friendly reminder. This triggers my autism immensely.

I mean, at the VERY least, qualify what you mean (e.g., shounen ADVENTURE, ACTION/BATTLE manga like "Naruto") so people at least have something to go off of. Otherwise we're talking Astroboy to Slam Dunk to One Piece to Urusei Yatsura to Drifting Classroom etc.

I finally decided to watch Kodomo no Jikan and it's great. I hear the manga is more story and less fanservice, and the anime doesn't cover all of the volumes, so I'm waiting for that to be translated and released.

Care to share those streams?

Notice many people who use shounen as an adjective probably don't even realize stuff like nisekoi or urusei yatsura are shounen.

In a language other than English?

Released in English. I want to read from a book, not my computer screen.

I just finished unlocking the secret levels in a Japanese Half-Life 2 mod that came out 12 years ago.

I guess that counts as obscure.

Oh damn, if I knew I would've backed it myself.

There's a lot of them backed up on Nicovideo. There are 261 episodes of ゆりゆららららゆるゆり放送室 uploaded and other than that if you saw the seiyuu thread a good while back I'm still not done getting through all of the とあるラジオの超電磁砲 I started back then.

It's definitely a unique experience.

Cool. I just bought a set of Slayers myself (1-15 plus the 25th anniversary anthology), original Lodoss 1-7, and the three Megami Tensei omnibus volumes. I'm also kind of curious about the Orphen series, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Ahh, it's been years since I last played HL2. Maybe I should try this mod.
