16758268 No.16758268 [Reply] [Original]

When will there be a Christian spirit to enter gensokyo? Christianity has had a major impact on Japan so it's strange that there's no trace of it at all in gensokyo. I know the whole holy war and faith struggle has already been done so I don't really want another religion arc, but why was Zun never capitalized on christianity?

Do you think we will one day have a western theme/mythology arc?

>> No.16758346

Mary, I guess? She's English, right? They're traditionally pretty Christian. Guess it's only an implication and not a fact, though.

Christianity is alive and well in the outside world. Their god has literally no need to care about faith problems, specially since his gimmick is to be omnipotent and plain don't give a shit about anything.

Even in the modern era, Rumia showed that it's known of in Gensokyo. I'm pretty sure koakuma is a western demon, and would therefore know of the existence of God/Jesus. It's not too far fetched to say that the other mansion residents were or acknowledge Christianity at some point.

That brings up a point I thought of. Does the Barrier actually effect faith in any way? Presumedly you can say that at this point the gods are not getting much in the way of faith from the outside world. But if they did, would the barrier effect it in some way?

Since it's a non-tangible thing that strengthens gods, you might be able to assume that it's some form of energy that gods feed on. Would the barrier be able to effect it somehow?

I'm a bit vague on what the barrier effects, but according to descriptions elsewhere, it only effects "living things and their creations." Faith could be assumed to be a human creation of sorts, albeit entirely in the mental/spiritual sense... so maybe?

Anyway, if it did something like block it off entirely, you could assume Jesus would be fucked coming to Gensokyo.

>> No.16760216

>>16760203
It probably doesn't, I imagine it like observation in blazblue (again) and the more you acknowledge it, the stronger it is tied to existence, humans and youkai can do this to divine spirits and gods and basically pull more of their power into existence by acknowledging its existence. Gods fade when nobody acknowledges them.

>> No.16760240

>>16760216
tl:dr they're bound to human belief in their existence and when that link is severed they either become weaker (if all of humanity for example was observing them they'd be at their zenith or true power) or just fade from existence.
I'd imagine that it makes a distinction between being devoted and just knowing that it exist though.

It doesn't matter what it means in English
Ancient Hebrew doesn't have vowels

Hebrew is written from right to left. Originally, the alphabet was an abjad consisting only of consonants, but is now considered an "impure abjad". As with other abjads, such as the Arabic alphabet, scribes later devised means of indicating vowel sounds by separate vowel points, known in Hebrew as niqqud.

Jews stopped using "Yahweh" because it's not the proper translation

>> No.16767603

>>16767575
To clarify
Hebrew has no vowels; it has instead 22 consonants and the words and sentences read from right to left.

Hebrew is the only ancient language that has been revived and re-established into modern colloquial use. And the reason is that you already know the English language, so it is intuitive for your brain to replace the missing vowels.

That said, if Christians with true biblical knowledge enter gensokyo the paradigm would fall rather quickly as nephillim, angels, and demons enter people's lists of known supernatural entities beyond the periphery (which they may not understand the full scope or purposes of being the descendants illiterate 16th century japanese peasants) and these outclass any youkai in any way
Once they realize that myriads upon myriads of them exist then I don't think the reality deviant reserve park that is gensokyo would last for much longer

On the contrary, there are some Slavic saints that originated as local deities, and one of the G-man's followers was allowed to marry a sea goddess. Being worshiped is not a crime, abusing that worship, trying to convert his own followers to worship you, or worse, plagiarizing the works of the Lord is a swift way towards earning His ire.

One thing I've always wondered is if the fact that Remilia isn't harmed by crosses means that He's more or less cool with her. I wonder what would happen if you pressed the same cross onto Sakuya.

The relationship between Christianity and fairies is... complicated. Depending on who you ask, they're either a type of angel, a type of demon, gods demoted by the Lord due to abuse of their abilities and remade into His image out of mercy, or something else entirely whose origins are separate from the angel/demon-youkai/human dichotomy. Though Christians were the first to demonize them, they were also the ones who gave them their current modern image of pretty (relatively) friendly winged creatures that appears to ring true in Gensokyo, and fairies like the Leprechaun are a part of the overall culture.

As fairies are among the few individuals of Gensokyo confirmed to speak English (Clowpiece, the fairy maids) coupled with the general Christian instinct towards acting chivalrous towards the weak and innocent, they are among the most likely, if only inhabitants that a would-be crusader would find any form of understanding with.

I personally found it lazy. I mean, think about it. The "Shinto" final boss wasn't Amaterasu, the "Buddhist" final boss wasn't a Buddha, and the "Taoist" final boss wasn't loli Lao-tzu. Having the Christian final boss just be loli Jesus shows an incredible degree of lacking care or doing research.
