Did anyone else think that Tomoya's father was the saddest part of the game?

The guy went through the same thing as Tomoya, but his situation wasn't reversed and he lived as a broken man to raise Tomoya, who hated him and abandoned him in the end even though he did nothing wrong.

His life had to suck, I don't know why he didn't off himself while he was left to live alone and hated by everyone.

In the end, this game is pretty much based on his life story, but unlike him Tomoya gets a happy ending.

That's my big problem playing Clannad. I didn't get it so much early on, but in the Sunohara arc, I couldn't connect with Okazaki. At all. The fact that he just stood there and did nothing while Mei got the shit beaten out of her and then watched her cry rankled me to no end.

I know I'm going to get even more pissy at him in the afterstory from what I've heard, but I also know I'm not going to just stop there and not do it. Ugh.

At first I was going "Fuck yes, a VN protagonist who isn't just some faceless and spineless douche. WAIT FUCK YES YOU ARE THE BEST SIDEKICK EVER. BOMB A HEAD."

And then I just hit this massive brick wall in the Sunohara arc where I went "FUCK NO WHERE DID YOUR SPINE GO. AND YOU, YOU ARE A GREAT SIDE CHARACTER, BUT YOU ARE THE SHITTIEST FOCUS EVER."

Which was odd, because Sunohara was MORE sympathetic in, say, Tomoyo's arc, over his own.

Sunohara was more sympathetic and understanding than Tomoya in every arc, including Nagisa's.

It makes me wonder why they all hooked up with Tomoya instead of him. He was a good guy, just misunderstood, mostly due to Tomoya.

I dunno. He's semi-nonexistant in a few, mainly playing the role (and PLAYING IT AWESOMELY) as comic relief/sidekick. But in, say, Kyou's, he's easily the smartest one there. He doesn't bullshit around like all three of the live trianglers are - he upfront goes to Okazaki and says "Do you like her or not? It's that easy."

Same with Tomoyo's. Even at the end he shows himself to be more mature by leaving the school and going back to his hometown to get a job. He doesn't want to, but he knows shit has to get done, and tells Okazaki before he goes to think shit through over Tomoyo and reconsider his decisions.

But then his OWN arc comes up and it just pissed me off. Pisses me off, still! It isn't until the end that he becomes awesome and manly, and I got the feeling that Key was just holding it off to try and wring some tears out of us.

Speaking of spoilers, could somebody please spoil the endings for Tomoyo After? I've had it with the manga and I can't be arsed to wait a few years for a translation.
