No, basically nobody litters in Japan. It would be wrong to say that absolutely nobody does, but it's extremely uncommon.

>> No.16660780

>>16660496
It isn't that uncommon, really, but in the big cities especially they hire a lot of people to clean up and I would say that the public in general are more likely to pick up trash.

The only problem is that rubbish bins are quite uncommon, generally only around places like convenience stores, shopping malls and the such, which means if you find some trash you want to get rid of you might even have to go as far as taking it home.

Quick question. Are you really expected and forced to not communicate to students in Japanese? It just seems so backwards in my eyes. Assuming that the information I heard secondhand wasn't false, anyways.

Basically, yes.
However, if you want to use a word they don't know or some grammar they don't know yet then there's nothing really wrong with inserting some Japanese so they understand.
Your goal should be to not speak Japanese sentences.

Though my experience so far is all Junior High School. Even in Elementary School they expect you not to use Japanese, but in Elementary School the kids just learn throw away phrases, not really learning anything about the grammar so it would be even worse in Elementary School because they won't really learn how to respond to anything other than those set phrases.

I am glad you recognize the importance of studying the field you want to get in. Japan works like most other 1st world countries where if you do not have a specific skill or profession they will not allow you to get a perm visa or live there indefinitely; or you could fall in love with a Japanese citizen and get it that way.

Aviation is the tits over here, they take it very seriously and work hard, so for me my job is easy since everyone puts in the time and effort.

1st anon you were replying too

I was thinking about going to a Vocational college in Japan, and Yes, I wish I could move permanently to the country. I'm already studying here (Japanese that is). I already speak German, Portuguese, English and some French - naturally these aren't related to Japanese but I can learn really fast since I'm already experienced with language learning and I know what works for me.

I AM in a hurry because I live in a shithole and I NEED to get the fuck out of here asap. Not only that but I really like Japan's culture, the language, the land itself. Call me weeb, no fucks given really.

The problem is I don't have the funds to make it happen and it probably won't, so I live in this eternal cycle of misery of feeling bad about myself and not having the energy to do much to change my situation while waiting for my inevitable doom.

Just a few weeks ago someone broke into my house (this was like, what, the 4th or 5th time I think...).

Sometimes it just makes me feel better knowing that someone was capable of going there and realizing their dream (if it even was a dream for you?)

Anyway, as you can see I'm depressed and have been extremely unhappy with my life for more than 12 years now - so I won't bother you further with it, I know it's annoying listening to some sad sack of shit.

Have a good one m8.

the 90's model is reasonably priced so I may look into that model or better yet the station wagon equivalent since my wife is expecting our first child. Right now our Bb isn't bad, she bought it for me since she's Japanese and gets a major discount.

who here knows anything about the Japanese car industry? My Bb was around 2k USD and the insurance was 170 USD for the entire YEAR; who here can share some stories?

I don't know about you, but at least here, public schools do a really poor job engaging students with the material. Not all of them mind you, but there's that disconnect between teachers and students and it ends up feeling more like a job than education and you're just there because you have to be there.

My college experience has been the exact opposite, so I guess that's where all the people who actually want to teach are.

Consider exchange programs, language courses or continued education at Japanese unis as well.

Haven't done any of those myself so I have no idea how difficult it is, but I've known several people who've come to attend or research at schools here, as well as a number of engineering students who did the KIT language program. You probably will need monies though.

Essentially Japanese university students pretty much fuck around the whole time, waiting to apply for jobs at Japanese corporations during their last years. Getting accepted to the university is the actually hard part. I don't know about the postgrad stuff, but I've heard it described as "third world research standards".

And I'm not in Japan anymore, originally went to work in IT and career progression opportunities just weren't too great there. The work culture of Japanese companies I wouldn't want to touch with a 10 foot pole either, you can find a lot of lot of horror stories about Rakuten for example (even in English) and they're fairly representative.

I am getting my PhD in Japan, and completed my Masters in Japan last year.

You apply to a Japanese Masters Program. If it is a program in Japanese you will need at least N1. English language requires being a native of ~780 TOEIC score. If you are good enough with languages to speek four like a native, this should be no issue.

Keep in mind, unless you tend to stay in Japan, a Japanese degree is less useful than an American one. American universities are still considered the center, so to speak, of the academic world. Postgrad at a Japanese university is not "third-world research standards" like the other anon said, but it certainly ain't ivy league either.

You can work up to 28 hours per week on a student visa. No real limits other than nothing considered vulgar (host club, pachinko parlor, JAV star, etc.). I currently work at a cram school and teach English at a Japanese university part time. Along with TAing a few classes.
