[SPOILER] No.1655577[SPOILER]  [Reply] [Original]

Do you wear any anime-related clothing or accessories? Why or why not?

I imagine since you guys are all about suppressing power levels you don't, so I ask: what would it take for you to wear something even remotely anime-inspired?

I personally have only a few shirts that I wear and very irregularly. These shirts don't have any characters or titles or phrases on them; they're simply logos or symbols (i.e. NERV or the Gurren-dan banner). I hate most of the clothing that's out there for anime fans because it's often tacky, obvious, novelties and are just poorly designed. Just throwing on a picture of a character with a phrase or coloring it with shadows and flame/ rosepetals and sunshine seems to be the norm. People who make these shirts just seem to be cashing in on whatever's popular with little to no effort.

I would like to see clothing that is inspired by anime, but not blatantly and tactlessly. No big character portraits, no cheesy/witty lines, but something that evokes a series or character and actually shows that some thought went into the design. I think it would be great to have something to wear that means something to the person wearing it without shoving it in the faces of everyone nearby.

Pic related for shi(r)t I hate.

I have a ton of cospa shirts, but I hardly ever wear them.

The only trinkets I keep around at all times are the pins of my workbadge, and my Vocaloid wallet strap. I used to carry around a few faggy keychain trinkets, but those kept snapping off unfortunately.

>> No.1655620

I do, but I only have a few shirts.

And I don't really wear them much.

Then again, i don't give a fuck about suppressing power levels, since no one really asks me about my anime shit or comments on it anyways, and I don't get insulted for it either.

I have a NERV parking permit sticker in my car window. Seems to work to; never have I recieved a ticket. Clothes though? No. If it was stealth power levels, maybe, but nothing that could be recognised by a normal humie.

I have a Howl's Moving Castle shirt, black with the movie name on. Got it for free. Most of my shirts are movie related anyway, and Miyazaki stuff is well know enough that it doesn't look out of place.

People come up and talk to me about my shirts fairly often. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, but it's certainly interesting.

I usually wouldn't, and don't own any, but if the apparel actually looks kinda cool without consideration to its relation to any anime or whatnot, then it could be good.

Pic is a sexy T-shirt I'd wear if I had it, whereas if it just said "Higurashi" or "Rena" with a normal pic I'd definitely not wear it (unless it's to some anime club/friends gathering).

I don't mind anime shirts with the cool logos on them. I think the FMA ones with just the alchemist symbols were pretty classy.

All anime shit is kind of overpriced compared to normal shirts so I don't bother buying them. I'd rather not spend all that money on a t-shirt only to wear it out after I actually use it.

>> No.1655647

Theoretically, let's say someone made some really great looking shirts that were critically lauded for great design, which you think look great, and did not have any obvious marks on them that scream "ANIME".

However, you know that it is anime-inspired. Would you still not wear it based on that fact? Are you that worried about people finding out?

Every anime-related clothing item I've seen has been shitsux. If they were designed by someone who is actually competent at their job and for a series that isn't complete shit, sure. I don't give a shit about hiding my power levels or whatever else.

But honestly do they hire those faggot wannabe 'graphic designers' from anime forums to make these or something, because the design on these things is always above and beyond just being 'shitty'.

The closest thing I have is a NERV wallet, and some keychains on my...keychain. ಠ_ಠ

Honestly it all depends on the design. What usually is a dealbreaker is:

Words. Unless the words are actually witty, almost anything with words is usually cheesy and disgusting. Example: >>1655626
Even though that guy likes that shirt, I think the "CULT" makes it completely tacky.

Characters. Using that same Higurashi shirt as an example, the animu face immediately makes it tacky to me. I don't wear shirts with random people's faces on it, so I won't wear a shirt with random animu faces on it either.

This narrows it down to text-less logos. Some good shirt candidates would be the Zombie Powder happy face and the Tsubasa magic symbols. They look cool without screaming HEY GUYS I AM A FUCKING NERD.

In fact you could probably add the words "ZOMBIE POWDER" to the Zombie Powder shirt since it's a completely English title. Most people would just assume you're wearing a band t-shirt.

It's all on a case by case basis.
