0 - vague idea of shape of human body. No sense of 3d.
1 - better idea of shape of human body. No sense of 3d.
2 - beginners perspective. Uses cylinders as arms and leg. Little anatomy knowledge. Stiff pose.
3 - Better pose. Better anatomy. Little rendering. Better sense of 3d.
4 - More improvement
5 - Ability to draw the body at any perspective and pose
6 - Can draw a realistic cirno. No more relying on cartoon cliches like a mouth that is 100% teeth or tongue. Line weight and minor cross hatching rendering.
7 - Drawing humans interacting with environments with the same fundamentals.
8 - Character interaction. Still can't convey proper gesture and eye contact.
9 - Characters can look at each other but can't draw flesh touching other flesh.
10 - You can draw humans, mechs, animals, and environments.

Touhou is a video game, what makes other series more /v/? There's a thousands of other otaku oriented games and VNs people could draw characters of too.

And you're right, they didn't mention it wasn't a thread you could post OCs in. What does it matter? It's a thread for drawing as opposed to a thread for whatever other works like the OC threads are. You could make a thread only for VN projects or a thread only for drawing vocaloids or whatever. There doesn't have to be only one OC thread that has one nature.

Since you guys are like casual version of ic. Im just going to write a one stop guide to being successful in art like one of my classic rants on ic.

1.) Build a good reference library. Im going to be honest, as someone who has a collection of over 15 figure drawing books, the only ones you need are atlas of human anatomy by peck, and figure drawing by loomis. The rest, you can get by searching specific things from google or pinterest, like knee anatomy or head angles. But that is only for drawing the figure and and anatomy, you want to always have a collection of reference of everything on your computer for things like mechs, trees, cat girls, etc. Figure drawing is not the final frontier. Its just a humanist niche that holds lots of popularity.

2.) the golden rule of improving is to start small and grow large. For instance, if you're a complete noob to drawing, the best thing you can do is to start by mastering how to draw hands. Keep grinding and grinding. Youre not aiming for perfection, just that comfy feeling where if someone told you right now to draw a hand at any angle or pose, you could pull off one. After about 2 days or so, you can move onto the arms. Speed is Key.

3.) and the same can be said for painting. So many people act like being able to pull off a sakimichan painting is impossible, but thats because they look at the painting as a whole. You got to break it down into small parts. Be able to paint eyes like sakimichan, before you can paint eyes + the nose + the mouth like saki.

4.) Think about what you want. Many of you will go down this path: youll create a donut steel character and story, but realize no one wants to read it. So you resort to drawing fanart to get a fanbase. Now, this will definitely help get one. But is this what you want? When there is one day a wikipedia article about you, do you want it to write that your comic was shit and people only read it because you drew porn, or do you want the writing to speak for itself? Some people just want to perfect art and not want to create a story, but for others, its opposite. Keep this in mind before you go all out autistic.

5.) Networking is mix between good marketing and chance. The best thing you can do is enter contests, interact with other artists, or just be a god at painting fanart. Study the trends and memes of devianart, instagram, tumblr, and youtube etc. Dont be discourage if you're not an overnight success, but always aim to be one.

first you have to acknowledge that the anatomy and perspective itself is really off and needs to go back to sketch layer.

Also, you need to look at clothing folds and hair more to get a since of the render. It looks like the batman suit.

When you shade the clothing, FEEL the map of the shadow, know where the fold goes and how it affects the countor. Use lighting and highlights to give a better since of detail.

nah. If you're going back to college, get a sweet ass business degree and get a lil japanese wife.

Used to want to be animator myself. You have to be really dedicated to the mechanics of drawing the figure; no painting or storytelling whatsoever.

First thing you want to do is educate yourself on douga(in betweens) and genga(keyframes).
Next, you learn about timining charts and layers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=994XdcIP9K0

The rest is studying and studying anime in general like how to give skirts and butts momentum. I say follow this:

1. Learn how to animate expressions and talking
2. Upperbody gesture movements
3. Full body and hentai sex moves
4. Walking and interaction
5. Extreme action scenes

Lots of people use clipstudio to animate, i use old school adobe flash. But eventually, learn to animate traditionally.

Heres my portfolio for reference http://naoiswatchingyouportfolio.blogspot.com/ its abandon now though
Its funny looking back how i sacrificed the quality of the drawing just for animating it, and hope you dont do the same.

Also, heres gaijins that made it as nihon animators for inspiration.

I'm actually not interested in animation at all though. I only like drawing manga and it seems that an animation course is the closet thing to drawing manga. If possible, I would actually prefer to study Japanese in college but I'm too broke and I already spent my one time grant getting a bachelor in a degree I despise.

I can probably sludge it trudge an animation course out to the end since I've been through worse. I don't want to end up wasting a year in something that turns out that I don't like or is actually completely useless other than for personal projects.

I could go and try to get a master/diploma in IT if I go back to a proper college. I feel like those are the only courses useful for a socially awkward person. I have no talent or interest in programming at all though while I'm decent in drawing.

Then do that. You don't have to draw amazing to make a comic, just tell a good story or jokes. You can do anything from getting in a newspaper to getting money from kickstarter and selling books. If you feel like your weeb looking stuff wouldn't be accepted offline, remember Boondocks, one of the most weeb looking comics, has been running in the newspaper for a long time and even got a TV series animated by a Japanese studio.

Dont be such a bitch. If you like programming, then pursue it, if not, choose something else. actually, ive seen worse than level 0 from people irl who try to draw intentionally good. Lots of people think the reason why people stay stuck at level 0 is because they never aim for realism, i say its more that people always draw the same 3/4 view and same body type. You have to mix it up. level 0 actually maintains proportions and has no warped perspective. Its just the form is awful. like i said here >>16508115 start with something basic like drawing eyes or mouth at different angles as realistic as possible. And yes, i do im a hypocrite when i draw shit like:

I just posted it on twitter. Im learning japanese, and at the time, i just thought it would be funnier to have crappy japanese mixed in with crappy art and weird humor sort of like a dolan comic. Unfortunately, when i showed it to my japanese friend, he said the text was too small to even read. This was actually an old comic tho, and im way pass the cringy humor. Can't say I improved much with art, but, i rather just have something legit funny to read, then the art just being pretty to look at.

Am going to leave this thread and never comeback now because my blogposting is beyond cancer level. But the translation of the comic is:

I found a really clever way to figure out how to move the character making a function that moves and multiplies by the 'scale' factor of the character (1 is right -1 is left) although there's a few things I wish I could optimize a bit because it's tedious to even look at. Will fix the jump sprite later. Had to fiddle a lot because I had to separate all the animation logic from the movement code I eventually made a giant if statement that checks for a, w, and d key presses to make it running. probably not perfect but it seems to be working well and there's really not much else in terms of player controls I'll be doing for now. something I would like to have in the future is walking up and down slopes but I don't really know how to do it.

Of course when I go to implement it for real it will probably be its own unique hitbox underneath the player that checks for this because the hitbox of the slop would have to be underneath the actual slope or else hitting it might ruin trying to jump and land on a slope...

You can use libraries ( or write your own ) with Python which are basically events/sound/etc wrapper written in C (pygame is SDL wrapper iirc). You can also use library wrapped around OpenGL (pyglet) and achieve hardware-accelerated rendering.

Is Python slow at runtime or in developement? I think script languages are good for ex. writing game logic.

If you try do same things with Python and C you can't blame the language. You are just using tools wrong.

If you just want to do games without messing with different technologies and tools I think unity / game maker -like "engines" are for you then.

All languages have pros and cons and you can't do everything with every tool out there. However game development is often compromises with time, money and knowledge. You can also work around of many technical restriction by designing your game differently.

I just wanted to say "make the game with tools you can be productive" in my earlier post. I'd love to play those games someday.

Python is slow if you do the bulk of your processing actually in python rather than some bindings to a C library. I was taking a machine learning class (classification algorithms), and the python solutions were an order of magnitude slower than the ones from compiled languages (like haskell) once the algorithms weren't just "do a bunch of dot products and do some minor processing on the result".

I was naive to think I could get top10 at least.
I didn't even get into the top 50. The Top 50 get to have their work displayed on the website.
It turned out what I was labouring on was actually a 20 long day proof on how I don't have the talent, skill or sense to draw manga.

The competition's called Silent Manga Audition. It's one of the few major international manga competition I know of. There was around 500 entries for the one I entered. I looked at previous entries form last competitions and everyone's art is at the level of real manga art standards. The art level all looks like they're professional illustrators already working in the industry.

My drawing skill's pretty weak in general so I composed it mostly of backgrounds by filtering and tracing photos. I composed the non-existent plot around using photos I took so I could quickly produce detailed backgrounds with photoshop.

That's the last time I want to draw some meaningless work for something. There was the chance of winning a trip to Japan I really envied and a couple of consolidation prizes plus the recognition you would get. Too bad there's always going to be a thousand more talented and successful human beings entering it. If I was one of those type of artists I wouldn't be a hikineet in the first place.

Don't get yourself down. Getting better is only a matter of how much time and effort you put into your drawings; the more you draw the better you get so long as you are aware of your faults and aim to improve. If there's one thing you should be proud of it's the fact that you've actually seen something through from start to finish. Motivation, for me at least, is a lot harder to cultivate than drawing skill. I've tried to make over a dozen oneshots and I always fizzle out somewhere down the line and scrap the whole thing.

And personally, I feel like you're being too hard on yourself. There may be a thousand people better than you at any point in your studies but that doesn't mean your work is worthless by comparison. Never sell yourself short. If anything, treat the competition as a learning experience. You may not be pleased with your work, but it's a milestone all the same, and if it looks like shit then that's all the reason to get better.

If the competition served as motivation to draw then you should treat it just as that. Put the rewards and rankings out of your mind and put pen to paper and keep drawing. Don't neglect your studies of course but don't lose that drive to get better at drawing what you want to draw.

Hanazawa's episode was disappointing but Asano's one is pretty good on photoshopping.

Nowadays, I've moved away from doing detailed backgrounds. Spending all the time looking and searching for references makes drawing scenes a lot less enjoyable. I've gone for shoujo type art where I just draw characters and panel my page freely. That type of panelling gives more freedom and creativity instead of boxes. You can just diagonal line wherever and it gives a bit of lax to drawing.

What's the strangely off bit. Is it the faces or the characters don't integrate to the background enough?

2 years ago my art looked really unacceptable and wonky. Being a hikineet is the secret to getting better if you like to know. It also comes with the cost of mental degradation. You draw manga all day because life is empty and your own manga is the only way to see your own fantasies come through. It's a good therapy to immerse yourself away from life.

How far am I, /jp/? I still have problems drawing poses without at least one visual reference and my shading is all solid lines. This was the first drawing I've been satisfied coloring. Poses and human anatomy is no problem for me but I have a problem with some shirts. Sometimes I feel like I give them too many folds and it ends up looking too rugged.

The eyes are off. I'm sure you know this, but you didn't place them in the same areas of the head. Left eye should be far more towards the center of the head, especially since she's tilted to the right.

Her legs are too long. Her ankle is about a foot long.

Hair is done well though, except for that weird little tuft at the bottom which doesn't connect to anything.

>Sometimes I feel like I give them too many folds and it ends up looking too rugged.

I agree. Your skirt pleats aren't really what happens in real life. The most egregious one is on the left side where it doesn't do anything

I think the shirt looks odd too, but mostly due to the buttons. I can see what you were going for around her breasts, but shirts don't fold that way and it looks odd.

I think the socks are cutely frumped though.

fix her knees. They're turned in but her feet are straight. For her knees to be like that, she should either be pigeon toed or doing this http://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=knees_together_feet_apart but she's doing neither of those.

Here's one. this page haunted me for months that I went back to liquify it in photoshop to get the man to look less deviantart. The re-edited page I have on my website is a bit better but still terrible. There's only so much you can abuse with the liquify tool.

You can read it here and it's my first ever original work I drew in life:
http://qchrollofer.com/1aliador/chapter1/chapter1.html

Here's my second work and my faourite work. Drawings got a lot better and by then I had over 7 months of non-stop drawing as a fresh hikineet. It's much easier to have a pencil art look good. When you ink something, it loses out some aspects of the original feel and look. And when it's inked really amateurly it looks like it's done with ms paint. It's embarrassing when I look back at it since there's parts I think I've done a bit too sappy.

http://qchrollofer.com/2sheena/sheena1/sheena1.html

A lot of people seem to just post drawings rather then stories they drew. I'm not a huge fan of art so I started out by throwing myself right into the thick of drawing stories. I spend most of my waking life just drawing so of course a person like that will improve. Even a monkey can improve with how mentally ill and stubborn I am. I even learnt the html course on codeacademy all for the sake of displaying my manga on my own website and I absolutely hate touching mumble jumble techspeak.

Tried something fun today.

I was supposed to draw all that gear on her stand on the right, but it was way too late when I thought about it and I didn't want to erase and (most likely) mess it all up.
