Just a tip, is there a certain marker after every line? For example, a newer version of kiri kiri ends every line with [¥]. If you do a search for [¥] (in this version of kirikiri), it will get 1 hit per line, thus giving one an accurate line count.

If it's possible, aiming to provide an accurate line count is best. The reason for this is simple. I really don't want any wrong ideas to get across about how long these games are. For example, if someone accurately says "This game is 30,000 lines so it will take me X months to finish", I don't want someone to say "Well Hatsukoi was 160,000 lines and it only took them Y months".

Really, not a big deal, just something that's best to fix if possible.

I expect Sekai to handle this like a drunkard with a chainsaw. The end result will make Wild Romance look good.

>> No.16418207

They seemed just as surprised as anyone when a Steam version was mentioned by Sayori at AX, and their initial announcement they sent out had said it was Denpasoft only. While I think the end result will turn out to be a poor product on Steam, business wise it probably is the correct move.

In the end though, it doesn't matter what the Steam version looks like because its getting an uncut release (and it is very doubtful there would be a delay on that). It's not like the handful of other Sekai titles with no uncut release announced at the moment and are still in limbo. The issue with something like Wild Romance isn't that half the script is gone, but that the other half of the script isn't available.

I did vote for galette's oniichan series since I'm pretty sure they'd sell really well since everyone seems to like fucking their little sisters judging by imopara. There is a difference between looking at images on the internet and being a company that sells a product that contains images. Putting a warning that everyone is 18 or over at the start of the game won't always cut it if authorities get interested and start looking in to it.

The 18+ line never cut it. The law only goes by what things look like, so best sellers like Evangile are illegal and will get MG in trouble.

Not to mention UK bans violent porn so Euphoria and Starless are completely unacceptable games to sell. But how much have you seen MG care about that?

The only thing that ever happened was Rapelay, and that would imply selling rape centered games like Rance is a bad move. But again it obviously isn't and makes good money.

So the only pattern so far is that the more laws you break, the more money you make, and yet it doesn't seem like you get punished for breaking laws that are not cared about.

With the launch week discount finished, The Labyrinth of Grisaia is still sitting in third place, behind the Nekopara Volume 2 patch and the first Grisaia. Although it is impossible to say how far behind Nekopara, as we only have long term positions on the chart.

EGS would say the "top" remaining titles (median 86 or above with at least 200 votes) that are untranslated and unlicensed are White Album 2, Sakura no Uta, Parfait, Baldr Force, Muramasa, Oretsuba, and Aiyoku no Eustia, along with another couple dozen or so more such titles with an EGS median of 85.

Of course though such a list is hardly definitive (and EGS does have its own issues). A list of titles that would get the best reception in the West, a list of titles that are currently most wanted by the Western community, and a list of titles that would actually sell well in the West would all look quite different even if there were a couple titles that would show up on most of those lists.

I would actually expect Sekai to go after some decent nukige titles. They do have a few Denpasoft exclusive nukige titles announced already (along with getting Koikuma because of Sayori, and the Steam version of that seems to be because of Smile instead of Sekai). But if they continue to expand on Denpasoft, I'm sure it hasn't eluded them that quality, higher price, nukige is where MG makes the bulk of their off-steam money.

>> No.16428395

>>16427983
They should really price games equally. The companies are just willingly losing money when they sell all-ages so cheap.

They always insist it helps selling more, but that goes for eroge too (do a bundle with the good games and see it disappear in thousands per day).

But then they say that higher prices on eroge makes more money because people would still pay.... but that goes for all-ages too.

Overall the industry needs to learn that basic "high price on release, sales later" is globally the best profits for all games. No need to think some kind of games are completely different.

>> No.16429084

>>16428395
It is fair to say that Steam is (or at least was) more elastic with regards to price than off Steam, largely because much of your target audience on Steam isn't particularly interested in a title when they come across it. As opposed to off steam store fronts where you attract customers who have a much better idea of what they are looking for and especially in the case of either porn or physical goods, are willing to pay a premium. So it makes (or at least made, when Steam had higher volume for individual titles) sense to price accordingly based on the market.

1st this is bs. The 2nd most common complaint after "why is this title censored bitching" is VNs are too expensive, not even High profile titles like Steins;Gate and Clannad can escape it. Besides Eceleb exposure that lead it to becoming memege, the other main reason why Nekopara blew up was that it was dirt cheap. The same goes for Sakura shit.

>> No.16430499

>>16430301
Being cheap doesn't really help for VNs unless you actually become a memege though. If you normally sell for $30, you'll make more when you get a 66% of sale than if $10 was the normal price and it stayed that price during said sale. Cheap games are more likely to become memege than non-cheap games because streamers are more likely to pick it up on a whim, but that's not something you can bet on.

>> No.16430601

>>16430499
See that is the problem. most of the steam users won't even buy the VN if they are 60% off as their consensus is that they think they are cheap to make and not even worth a 66% price off when you have $30 plus VN on steam. You are sacrificing almost all consistent albeit low sales for A chance at burst sales later unless it is for a series that already has a massive fanbase

There was some truth to it. Something like IMMHW wouldn't have been nearly as successful without its low price, and all of the viral hits early on were rather cheap.

However, as sales on Steam have slowed and VNs as a fad have diminished, the idea that a cheap game will become a viral hit is nothing more than an illusion that comes from reaching for the market that existed two years ago instead of the market of today.

>> No.16431065

There probably will be more titles trying to have it both ways going forward. Dies Irae is being split into two parts to reduce the initial price. G-Senjou cut out the voiced on the base version to drop the initial price in half. ChuSinGura 46+1 was advertised as free with $40 in DLC for the full game. I'm guessing its not all that long before some localization goes full mobile strategy and releases a free common route and then sell each route as DLC.

2nd most common complaint off-steam is the price. This is why the graph jumps so much during bundles. Without cheap games MG's sales are pretty flat over time.

Yet the most popular games are not the 10-15 dollar nukige. The popular stuff is the big games, but for a lower price. Comparably 10-15 for a single girl VN is expensive and not as popular.

I still think Shuffle had like 5-15 000 sales left to do at MG, but the price was too high and all those people waited for the discount. Now some of these just go for the Steam version, but far from everyone wants butchered content.

I think there's a very simple way to solve this problem: Allow for third parties to sell directly to steam accounts, without selling on steam. Not only that but this would solve the "buy tons of keys off site + chargeback" problem that keeps some people ending up with games they can use on steam.

People would link their steam account to their <third party> account, and buy the uncensored porn game on <third party> service, but steamworks would provide the CDN and DRM. Naturally, purchases like this should still result in some of the money in the equation going to valve.

This can all be done before you get to the point where valve has to deal with the regulations for selling erotic content or worrying about parental control filters in the store. Once a game is in your account, it's much easier for <parental unit> and <something valve programmed into steam> to work together to keep that account from playing games. If the kid makes a bogus account to play porn games on steam, well, it's no longer steam's responsibility, because the kid themself is bypassing the parental controls.

What is the point though.

The whole reason companies want to sell on steam is to have access to the wide group of people who have normal steam accounts.

If you already have a third party account then you are already a customer of said third party and will be buying their games anyway

In the more immediate future, the peak concurrent user numbers on Steam this weekend should give a good estimate about how the title is performing on Steam compared to other recent releases.

At this absurd rate, it might chart until Otakon. No other MG game has charted first 7 times in a row at least according to the pastebin.

Imopara holds the record of being first 4 times in a row according to the pastebin. Sweet Sweet, Haruka, and Negligee have been first 3 times in a row.

>DC 1 spoiler: her wish to be with Jun’ichi proved disastrous, as the magical tree began killing Nemu to grant Sakura’s desire. In the end, Sakura chose to the kill tree planted for her sake, in order to protect Jun’ichi’s happiness with Nemu, leaving herself alone.
>DC 2 spoiler: Sakura chooses to sacrifice herself—fusing with the tree to keep Yoshiyuki, Sakura’s greatest happiness and Otome’s most beloved, from vanishing from the world.

>A brief note on content: While Atlus is committed to bringing over games that are as true to their original forms as possible, in the case of Mask of Deception, a scene had to have a small content edit to comply with various regional regulations about the depiction of physical discipline to minors. We worked with Aquaplus to keep the scope of the editing to an absolute minimum, and we both agree the change made to the scene in the game still conveys its full meaning without running into issues.

My own country is really harsh on spanking, but it is for real life and not books.

Google did tell me that not even UK and CANADA has outlawed spanking images though. Which makes you wonder which this weird country is that they found laws at.

You're blowing smoke anonymous. If it's a matter of "liking money", mangagamer already takes the smartest road by milking customers who'll buy it twice.

Hardcopies only even make any decent volume at cons.

In a way Sekai was pretty smart with the Kickstater they did for a physical edition. They get to work out how many they need to print, so there is no waste (also no risk to themselves if not enough people are interested since the Kickstarter will just fall though), and they get the money for it all in advance.
