Well I found the Lawson uniform on taobao, but it seems out of stock, arrrgh.
Anyone who can read chinkrunes see if/when a restock is gonna happen?
I think I see an option to reserve, but I don't think taobao shopping services do that.
Description on google translate says first batch on May, second in June. But that sounds like last year considering people have it already.
They wouldn't keep a listing up if they had no plan to restock it right?

I have words.
So I find mine is quite compatible with DD sized clothes. Also Smart Doll Clothes are also very nice but are expensive. Also the built in rod stand thing is super cool and it comes in the box I love it.
Build wise I really feel they are flimsy and fragile feeling, especially when compared to DD and Obitsu. Their head sculpts are ok but I think their wigs are great.

If it's your first doll I think they are ok. And if you want a tan girl their your only option realistically.

At the end of the day I don't regret mine and I do like her. But I doubt I will buy another Smart Doll and I just feel kinda mixed recommended one.

+cute
-sameface
+not a problem if you like that sameface, as with anything T2 for example, more of a good thing is still a good thing
+brown
+easily obtainable in brown
+Choo clothing is good quality
-but very expensive
+a seemingly random assortment of volks DD clothing fits
-your results may vary
+body is lightweight and easy to carry/work with
-somewhat fragile, the joints can break easy when handled by inexperienced owners
??? people keep complaining about their faces being flat, but it's not like it's a problem exclusive to smart dolls

That's about as objective as you're ever likely to get from here. A lot of us spend our days beating off to the altar of Volks, so be prepared for those guys to pipe up if they haven't already by the time I finish typing this.

See also: The Obitsu/Azone/Parabox/Angel Philia range of 40-50cm dolls.

Depending on your taste you may find one of these companies suit you better. They are also generally the cheaper option (for example, my complete doll including one outfit cost me $300) and the Obitsu skeleton system is the most durable and versatile of the three big players in the vinyl doll game. A common hybrid is a Volks head on an Obitsu body which provides the best of both worlds.

Sorry not sorry for overloading you with choices but I need another Obitsu owner to circlejerk with here.

Not a great start there buddy chum pal

No. They do the job of being a doll's body better than a Volks body does. The differences are in priorities. Volks prioritises aesthetics, Obitsu value functionality. Obitsu joints bend further and in more ways than Volks. The bodies are readily available, sparts parts are cheap and easy to find, and maintenance is easy too.

You want something you can strip naked and beat off to? Sure, get a Volks body. If you want a doll's body that is sturdy, durable, flexible, and easily and cheaply maintained, get an Obitsu. And most Volks heads will go just fine on an Obitsu body anyway.

This used to be true with the DD2 body. Not anymore. The most recent DD3/DDS revisions are better than Obitsu in every way except for cost and availability.

Pretty sure Obitsu 50s actually are still more flexible than DDs, but they can only do it because they're so much slimmer. The real problem is the lack of clothing in their size. There just isn't nearly as much as there is for DDs.

I know >>16388241 and >>16388235 already answered this, but I'm gonna chip in with very recent experience:

Just got my Smart Doll Eiji.
This is some of the worst Vinyl I've ever encountered. I've put a darker hoodie on him for no more than 10 minutes and he soaked up all the color out of it. Mind you, my DDs wore the same hoodie for weeks and not a single stain.
Their faces only look ok from a very limited amount of angles, otherwise, they're flat and weird.
The chest plate is super rubbery while the rest of the body resembles hard ABS plastic instead of Vinyl.
The joints are also far inferior compared to Dollfie Dream's.
Overall, i wouldn't recommend it, especially considering that you can get a standard DD model at far less than any smart doll. And if you try to get head and body separately at auctions, you might get off even cheaper.
I'm really glad I found him cheap enough and didn't give money to Choo Shmoo

I am tempted to buy a custom 50-04 head, because they do look cute. But then I remember I'd have to implement some mod part for the neck to connect out it on an MDD body.
Then on several occasions I almost got a parabox 45 cm body. The only thing that's really keeping me from it are the knees and elbows. Most of the clothes I own are either tight ore are short, so these joints would be visible. I'm trying to get used to the idea, but haven't reached that point yet and since the DDP body's coming out, I'm gonna wait to see how that turns out first.

>>16389566
I had a few resin dolls before switching to DDs (kept only 2 kid delfs and a Yo-SD) and as nice as they look, they're frustratingly heavy and fragile. If you want to be sure they don't randomly snap and fall, you have to go through the trouble of sueding the joints. You can pretty much see them turning yellow real-time.
The first time I held a vinyl doll after dealing with resin for almost a year felt like I could finally breath.

Maybe it's because I own five of them but I think the peanut joints are really cute and I prefer them to Volks. Knees in particular. Volk's do look better from the front when the doll is standing, yes, but that's about all.

Oh and magnetic feet, too. I don't think anyone's mentioned that yet. You can have them hanging off the side of the fridge if you feel like it. Or put the metal plate each body ships with under a piece of decoration and have the doll quite comfortably stand there with lower risk of falling over.

>> No.16393686

Yes it is an anime doll. It's head looks small and not in proportion with other dolls. I purchased a Misuzu and put it next to my DDs. It looked really stupid. I took off the head and tossed it in a drawer and replaced it with a DD01. The aesthetic of the body was cheap Chinese, the joints bent well but the soft parts of the vinyl feel very thin, while the limbs were very hard and plasticy unlike Volks which is soft and smooth all over.

I had the same amount of difficulty per buying it as I did my MDD. I logged onto parabox and clicked buy/logged onto Junky Spot and clicked Buy. The bodies are cheaper, I give you that, but you get what you pay for.

If there was any flexibility difference between my Obi50 and MDD3 it was because the torso material itself on the 50 was thin and easily deformed. You could crumple up the midsection to bend further forward. And of course the magnets in the feet if you liked that. They didn't seem strong enough in line to do much good.

I'll never understand Obitsu fans. But of course I have never ham handed one of my dolls and needed to buy replacement parts. Nor have I been a poorfag.

Some of the Parabox heads are OK but if you want to store dolls together the size difference is truly noticeable. I think Obi does realistic vinyl dolls much better than Anime. It's a shame they get so many licenses and use it to make painted on doll eyes.

But desu I've always been bitter that the "better poseability better bodies" talk convinced me to waste money on one, then sell it at a loss because Obitsu doesn't move secondhand well.

But on HobbySearch in doll's description I usually see something like this: "Obitsu 48cm / AZO2 body (C bust) ※ lower leg only Obitsu 48cm use." Does this mean that leg parts are from standard Obitsu body? How can I check and be 100% sure if the doll has all parts from AZO2 body? Thank you for advance.

>> No.16396703

>>16396578

As far as I am aware it means the lower leg sections (shins) are standard Obitsu parts instead of the Azone AZ02 custom parts. I believe if there is any difference at all, it might be slightly skinnier? The thighs, torso and bust pieces are all bigger on the AZ02 bodies, but I'm not sure if the lower leg skin is different or not, and if it is, it can't be by too much or else they wouldn't be using it.

And well I hate to state the obvious but if the article page doesn't say anything about not using AZ02 parts, it probably uses all relevant AZ02 parts.

Different anon (and a female) but I also think it looks odd. Flat chest + big butt is usually considered "pear shape," which is generally associated with fat people, and isn't a very flattering silhouette compared to to other shapes.

My side of the house is structurally fine, but it has some smoke damage. The smoke got into the ceiling space which both properties share, and came in down the manhole cover and through the various vents around the house.

Other side is a little bit fucked haha. They piled burnables onto the beds and torched them all. 100% certain it's arson and 99% certain it was drug related.

Brought my girls to the seafront today, had to rush my shots since I came almost too late for sunset.

Note to self: be on shooting spot one hour before sunset time and not 15 minutes before like I did.

Lots of people around also (my city is very touristic) and most tourists were surprised to see dolls there.

> Also lighting sucks, I just got my first flash and haven't really figured out the best way to use it...
I never use Flash since I'm not good with it as well.

When you shoot indoor (like the pictures you posted), you can easily use a tripod and increase exposure time which will enable you to have perfect light level even with a low ISO. (Like 0.5~3 sec exposure depending on how well lit is your room.)

Outside during daylight you should be fine. During night/low light, best to have one of these mini-tripod (if you can), otherwise crank up the ISO, even up to 2400 you get decent quality after post-processing. I'm more fond of a picture taken with natural lightning at ISO2400 than misused Flash at ISO800.

>> No.16456867

>>16456814
idk about the other anon, but my potato camera can't really handle anything above ISO 400 without an annoying-to-remove level of noise, and 2400 would almost certainly be garbage.

Indoors, tripods are pretty useful, and if not, I just get a really bright flash and bounce it around the room to soften the lighting. Outdoors, tripods are pretty much a necessity, though I haven't really taken doll photos outdoors.

>> No.16457328

Start with the tripod and work with ambient light. use the flash to fill dark areas not create exposure. You're taking pictures of static subjects.

shouldn't be a variable if you're using a tripod.

>> No.16458181

This is simply my personal experience using a phone camera... the best pictures I've taken are from using a "tripod" (a bunch of books), a 5-second delay (so my tapping the screen doesn't shift the phone while it's taking the picture) and the lowest ISO setting possible (100 on my phone). The raw photograph is usually a bit dark so I up the contrast and then saturation in my image editor and get "acceptable" quality photos.

I find that high-ISO photos, even on a tripod. have a large amount of noise and are beyond my skill and program ability to repair.

That's what I usually do. My tripod mount can be inverted to hang below so low angle shots are a breeze. With standard single poses I can get away with that but the default lighting in my house is pretty much non existent.

To get good lighting I usually end up using these huge construction work lights bouncing off the ceiling (the only white surface) but the room gets hot crazy fast with those on.

The whole point of a tripod with a static subject is to increase exposure time so you keep shooting at ISO50~100.

A tripod won't help with noise if shutter speed remain the same, it'll just help you secure a steady shot.

>I'll keep that in mind. Have you ever worked with flash reflectors or any household object to redirect light?

Quite a bit. In this first example I liked the glow from the blinds and tried to used that glow to fill the negative space of the picture. I took a few manual exposures at different shutter speeds to get the right "glow" from the blinds, then bounced a flash off the left wall to bring the face back into the picture. Using the flash followed a similar process, requiring a few shots trying different stops of flash power to arrive at the right look.

2nd example: the sunny day in the windowsill gave the silver hair a nice backlit edge. However exposing for the face would have blown out the background, while exposing for the background left the face dark. Same as above, I took a few manual shots targeting what I wanted (the hair edge,) then used a reflector at different distances to fill in the face.

Not the same anon but I have a simple foldable reflector that has a white side and a golden side that allows you to choose if you want a slightly cooler or warmer look to the flash. Here's a photo where I pointed the flash away from the doll and reflected off the golden side. I've also added a tiny bit of color in Photoshop and removed some eye reflection.

If you're referring to me (>>16459167 >>16459150 ) I unfortunately live in an ugly apartment at the moment, do there's not a lot of motivation for taking doll pics. Also, I've been around for quite a bit. I've posted plenty over the years, and looking back, most of my posts are pretty bad in retrospect. Taking doll pictures has been a learning process and the only advice I can give is if it doesn't come naturally you need to take the bad pictures to learn what you're doing wrong. Looks like there's a discrepancy on Amiami's inventory system, or the webstore has a different inventory. There were still at least 3 of these dresses in the store but it's been sold out for over a month in their webstore. Glad I checked across the street before buying because it's still full price in the Azone outlet. mission success

I also scouted out a couple small places to add to the list of shops.

Across the street from Yodobashi Akiba is Sen. It's another off the beaten path shop like Dolk. While it may not be as robust in inventory they have several booths for photography and a small library of backdrops, props and furniture to use.

Even further off the path is Dollce. The shop consisted mostly of like wigs but they have a small selection of consignments and their own custom products too.Got myself some cat socks here.

From SEN is great, been there several times and their stock is decent.

Issue is pricing however, I guess you pay for the convenience of having clothes readily available, but lot of their stuff is coming straight from China and you can find it on Taobao for at least 50% less or even on eBay sometimes for ~20% less (and 4 weeks shipping sure...).

On the topic of clothes... I got my DDS boy body and the DDH-07 with boy-ish faceup and I can't make him look like a boy.
One outfit I got him is too baggy and doesn't show anything of his figure. The other one seems too girly. I ordered some new ones as well as a cuter 06 head but I'm unsure, it's just not panning out the way I imagined and I'll have to sell a bunch of stuff.

Hey so I have a question for you guys. I've recently ordered two new sets of eyes for my girl. However, I still have her default head, which i plan to remove her old ones from and set new ones. And I ordered the volks eye glue gun as well as some eye putty. Whats the most feasible option for removing existing eyes from a factory head and setting new ones in there place for a DDS model?

>> No.16529649

>>16529484
>the volks eye glue gun
Probably shouldn't have bought that. Generic silicone earplugs are cheaper, reusable, and easier to deal with.

Anyway, it's really easy to take the original eyes out. You just push them into her head from the outside, and they'll usually pop right out.

>> No.16529686

>>16529484
>>16529649

I've had a bitch of a time before popping them out from the front, and I've heard of some lenses cracking as a result. Also I'm not fond of getting so near the face up, especially with my nails near the eyes.

Since I cosplay I know hot glue adhesive gets neutralized by alcohol. So just get a cotton swab and douse the edges with a bit of alcohol, wait a minute or two, and they will pop right off low effort like magic.

But yea anon is right; you don't need a hot glue gun. I use putty you can find at hobby stores; 6 eraser size putty bars for only $3.

>> No.16529726

>>16529686
Popping eyes out from the front has always been super easy for me. Maybe it's a temperature thing, or maybe my heads have just been light on glue by coincidence.

>and I've heard of some lenses cracking as a result
If you mean the edge on the back cracking, I've heard that's just from the hot glue.

>> No.16529789

>>16529484
The only default Volks set of eyes I removed I just pushed them into her head. The hard glue came off the old eyes easy. Everyone else who Got new eyes were auction heads and the eyes were attached with everything from ear plug stuff, blue tack, and the Volks eye putty.

I bought Volks eye putty when I only had Cake 3 years ago and I have used it on three dolls and I still have some left. It's not the cheapest but it's been fine for my use.

My first couple of heads were fine, but on my Snow Miku it was a literal bitch. I was putting so much pressure on the eyes I knew if they suddenly popped off I'd have enough force to graze and scratch the eye brows. I tried prying them from the inside with pliers too, no luck. I was sweating. If I gripped the stem any harder I would've cracked/snapped it.

Not only does alcohol make the eyes instant to remove, but also the rest of that fucking glue volks uses. So this is my go-to method for removing stock eyes now.

The glue in my Melty head came out all in one piece, and it was still a bit tacky, so I literally just took the eyes out of the glue, put different eyes into the glue, and stuck it back on. It's the most convenient fucking thing and I wish I could have it for all of my girls.
