That said.. "main-story".. I mean. Should you really recommend someone to read this for that? The true ending is a bit.. uh. Let's just say it retroactively makes everything related to the main-plot and drama silly and useless. It's one of those spoilers you definitely can't know, as otherwise the journey will be a whole fucking lot worse. Or so I feel at least.

Likewise, it's been a year since I read it, but Nao's route doesn't involve his mom pretty much at all IIRC and the core drama is just their relationship. On the other hand, Ruri's route sheds very valuable insight the mom. Nao's route could be cut without losing much at all, Ruri's route couldn't.

Now, would I recommend someone play for the main story? Not by itself, no, but since he's going to do both, he may as well do the irrelevant skippable one first.

Aren't you the one that said that? Either way, it's not really for the guy who thinks his tastes are superior, it's more for the person who find this thread for the first time and has no idea where to start. Which is why along the recommendation you can put links for VNDB/EGS...
Also I'm not really a huge fan of charts like that mainly because it's not that practical to use (you can't ctrl+f for tags, or add names easily for example). But yeah, you could translate that into a pastebin (heck, I can do that part if you want) while adding what you think is really missing.

Both are pretty great depending on what you're looking for. Pricchi has still enjoyable, but less polished and pretty easy gameplay and much better plot and a likeable chuuni protag whereas Twinkle Crusaders and especially its fan disc have better production values and gameplay, but in comparison they're much more focused on cute stuff and most of the time they're very light on plot. Pricchi has more harem stuff and random sex scenes at the beginning that some may not like and overall it's a more linear experience, while Twinkle Crusaders has the more regular heroine route branching focusing only on one girl. Twinkle Crusaders is also way too long in my opinion if you plan on playing through it all, though you can skip most of it and only have to play 2 routes to get the full plot in preparation for the fan disc.

tl;dr for plot Princess Witches, for more regular moe stuff and better gameplay Twinkle Crusaders and its fandisc

Okay, been reading half-way her route, I think. The route has been interesting so far.

I feel that the start of her route is different from Orino though, instead of dropping backstory and drama to build romance and confession before going back to drama, Reina route starts with tsundere romance scenes and confession, and only after that, dropping her backstory and plot(some of the important bits are told when you're choosing her options in the common route first though).

Her backstory is supposed to mirror "The Ugly Duckling" tale, looking at the way of the VN dropping lines here and there in the middle scene changes in her route. The tale itself was discussed by Reina herself at one point, and she makes a point that she hates the mother duck in the story.

I don't like tsundere of any kind, but I think I can stomach it to see her route to the end to see how this turns out. Especially that I re-read the original tale and the mother duck said she wished that the ugly duckling had never be born. Reminds me how harsh the original tale is.

Yea, that is how I am reading it on my hacked pstv I bought when they were on sale for 20 bucks on amazon, i put it away and never touched it till it got hacked. I cried, the whole build up to this scene had my eyes stinging, then this scene let the floodgates loose.

And finished my trap time for today. (as in Otome Domain Kazari route)

Well this was.. okay. It had some good moments. But damn if this wasn't padded. Truth be told, it should've probably been AT MOST half the length it actually was. There was quite a decent amount of boredom involved, as well as LONG status quo. On the flipside they barely even did anything with the romance. Also I'm not sure about this being a "yuri" relationship to everyone but the involved people more or less. Why even do the trap-thing then? I feel like a trap-story should probably have something along the lines of Tsuriotsu, where the whole thing is, at some point, discussed. Here it never was, as the heroine knew about it from minute 1 anyway.
Then the final drama was unfortunately too overused and forced to give any value and should've probably not existed at all like this.

Still it had it's cute moments. It had it's fun moments. And a few touching ones as well. But all the... air in between was trying.
Here I'd also like to say that this game is a bit about girls which are in some way "problematic", "helpless", dameko or whatever you'd call it. I'm really not a fan of that. This is paired with a protag that does everything to almost perfection. Weirdly enough this changed as things went on and the girl suddenly started to more or less weir the pants, while the protag was mostly just worrying and never doing anything without getting almost forced by the girl. What were they even trying to do?

Yeah, I dunno about this. Should've probably been a lot shorter, and I'm not sure about the pissing-fetish, although I'd assume it's just the main-heroine. But well, it's ok. Maybe I'll do chuuni girl route one day, maybe not. But if this is supposed to be one of the better trap-games.. uh oh.

Yeah, they could've put more effort into it, like giving important adults a face. It's kind of jarring when the CG showing Kazuki and Orino carrying her faceless mother.

And the ending could've shown the friends on the aftermath of the events after they sacrificed themselves to help the couple escape. They've done so much to the couple in this route, they at deserves a scene in the end of the route, when they going back to the school after everything was wrapped out, possibly with they commenting how things going well for them while teasing the couple. Especially the males: Only Sen's and Reina's voice can be heard when they visited Orino with her baby in Orino ending, and in the normal ending, only adult Orino, Sen, and Reina shows up. Where's my bros? The VN start with 7 friends and should've ended with 7 friends too. The chosen heroine should've been the central point of the ending, but that doesn't meant that the close friends don't deserve something out of the ending.

Speaking of the last H scene, I was more disturbed at the transition of the couple from the first H scene, from innocent kids trying to please each other to Orino eating his smegma and Kazuki drinking her pee, and she continuously spouting dirty words during the actual sex, and begging him to cum in her wombs.. Maybe the couple need to learn a restraint or two after all. Imagine the parent-walk in scene if Kazuki's mother decided to go home early when they still doing their stuff. I'll laugh my ass off if that happened. Not that this is a bad thing, just my opinion.

So, yeah. Fun, it fulfills my expectation when I get this game, but still has some stuff that can be improved. I wish this VN is a higher price title so they could put more effort into it. I hope AkabeiSoft3 could at least hold their quality standard here. But knowing them, they'll churn out lower quality titles after this, so I hope that all their next release would flop so they can go back making another lolige with similar or better quality.

Chuuni route in Otome Domain done.

This was definitely better than Kazari's route. For one thing it was a bit shorter. It had actually somewhat of a flow. The romance was actually somewhat of a topic and unlike all the ~400kb of Kazari's route, there was even somewhat like a date.
On the other hand there was still a rather silly final part. And while the trap-thing was a bit better handled, it was still rather.. I dunno. Lackluster, I suppose.

One thing I'm a bit sad about though. Kazari can actually be a pretty nice character. You just don't see anything of that in common, nor in most of her route. They really fucked this up.
Will not be playing the third route. Otome Domain is.. okay. I did expect more though with the positive resonance it got.

Dunno about total length as I didn't do one of the routes, but it was something along those lines:
common: ~300kb
Kazari: ~430kb
Hinata: ~360kb

Names include their omakes, which are technically not part of the route, but eh. They exist.

If you want to get very rough estimates about length, EGS can work, too. I think this one sits at 18hours or so average playtime, so my guess from that was ~1.2mb. It's probably a bit more (like 1.4), but it's close enough. The issue with EGS is however that obviously not everyone plays all routes, which brings the biggest swings. (And is most likely the reason why Akatsuki no Goei 2 has only 20% increased reading time compared to the first one, but has a 50% bigger script, based on tlwiki)
As far as I know there's no real easy way to get length in other ways.

I actually approve of not giving adults faces, I think it works symbolically for the focus of the VN. But I'll agree that CG was kind of jarring and off-putting, they should've angled the shot better so her face was obscured behind the two kids carrying her.

And yeah, I agree with your other complaints too. They definitely needed an ending scene with the other guys - in a way, the no-girl route was better in that it did cover every character's afterstory. Maybe that's why they did it this way, so they don't have to copy-paste the same ending for each route, but I would have liked to have seen it. And I don't mind the sex, but I felt it took centre stage a bit too much and detracted from the other scenes in parts. You can see why they did it this way, after all, people expect sex from loliges, but it was a change of tone from the rest of the VN.

There were bits that were great though. Mainly the long speeches declaring freedom and seeking recognition as an individual, swearing love for each other and refusing to abandon their love at any cost. They were really well done, I thought.

Just finished the Yurika route from Sora no Tsukurikata, and unfortunately I cant say that I enjoyed it as much as the common route.

First of all, they literally destroyed her character. The cool, teasing mafia's bodyguard was screaming "Shuki daishukiii" at their third day. I actually like that kind of gaps between common route and heroine routes, but at this one it felt like someone else.

Also the start of their relationship is pretty bad as well, I guess writer wanted to make something different since both of mc and heroine are adults and they already did some sexual intercourse (not vaginal though), but there should be a confession scene or something at least. They literally made it like "hey I wanna do real thing this time" "Yeah me too" and after that "I guess we're lovers now". > Then endless h-scenes starts with 2-3 ichaicha minutes between them.

Since I liked the epilogue / drama at the end of route and yurika herself it wasn't that much unpleasant, but it wasn't pleasant either. I'd say average at best, got really disappointed after that great common route.

It's like Photokano in that characters have 2 routes but they're split up between each game though this time.
Each heroine feels like they have more and longer events that Photokano though, and more customization, so I don't feel too terrible about them splitting it up even though they probably could've fit both on one cartridge.
Maybe I'm just bad at taking lewd videos but it feels like each version is skewed a bit to its respective video type as well in terms of scoring.

Leyline series' main heroine is hard kuudere throughout the games, even after opening up a bit. I didn't play her afterstory in the third game, but at least for the duration of the main plot I can't really remember any occasions where she turns into full blown dere mode for any notable length of time. Of course, that's why I said the route is fun earlier. Those stuff that you mentioned makes the route enjoyable, and how Orino and her mother is actually similar in their stubbornness during the siege(which she shows earlier in her route when she insisted to help a lost child when visiting the neighborhood town.), then they both drop it later to understand each other's condition after the mother collapsed from searching Orino in the mountain all night.

One more thing that ticks me off: They never use this sprite in the actual game CG. What a waste. It's one of the scenes that shows Kazuki face too. Shame.

Now, about Reina's route: She's the reverse of Orino: She feels that her mother is too leeway to her. She deliberately acted like a delinquent after discovering by herself that she's adopted. To demand a reaction from her, to know if she loves her as an actual daughter. But she's not angry at all like a normal parents, which ticks her off even more and question if she actually sees her as a daughter. Made worse by the fact that Reina never talks about the adoption to her mother and her feelings about it. Which is why she asks earlier in the route to the MC what is the meaning of family in his opinion.

And when the MC finally convinced Reina to be honest and talk to her mother about it and go home, she and the MC finds out that her mother gets threatened by the head teacher to report her to the police because she helps the kids in their siege by bringing supplies to them earlier in her route. Which she proceeds to blaze in, yells how she never asks for the supplies and pushed her until she falls down, and run away so the teacher won't suspect her of helping the kids running away from their parents. She feels absolutely terrible about it afterwards.

Haven't reached the resolution of the route and the end though, because another motherfucking peeing scene in the H scene. I'll continue her route later.

Just because you haven't played that much doesn't mean you need to stick to popular stuff. I personally don't give a shit and my genre was (and still kinda is) more the j-rpg, so I don't know that many eroge.

My backlog still has several major "generally well liked" games on it, and yet what did I play recently? Stuff like Akatoki, Dokodona, Otome Domain... I mean I could also play, say, some August title like Eustia or whatever else "major", but.. not like those run away.

Perhaps it's just me, but I always liked to try "random stuff", provided it has something that catches my attention in some way. So I also played stuff like Christmas Trick Star, which many hear probably never heard of, and that's fine. Not like you miss anything. Still, high ratings aren't really a super big factor here I feel. It's just fun to explore a bit every now and then. Not all the time. Every now and then.

Ok, Reina's route.

I thought it was really good. The confession scene was just as beautiful as in Orino's route, easily the best part of the VN in both cases, it's actually so heartwarming and romantic. Reina herself is ridiculously cute, proof that tsundere can be a really great archetype if it's done well. The gap moe between her hard diligent study and casual delinquent act, between her childish love for toys and admiration for ギャルs, between her ignorance and shame regarding sex and her lavish carnal desires, is so gloriously done.

With the obvious exception of the 3rd one, the sex scenes were really good too, I came 5 times today to them. The contrast between serious heart-wrenching drama and fun lewd scenes is a bit stark, but if I'm enjoying both of them this much I guess it's fine.

Thematically, I liked the use of The Ugly Duckling and the way it was brought into and linked with the story. Although I can't help but feel Japanese people reading this are missing out if they can't read English, seriously it's not often I get to feel I appreciate the VN more than native readers. It's a really nice parallel that doesn't mirror it exactly, like many lazy allegories end up doing, but rather compares and contrasts - she's adopted, like the duckling, but not hated by all, her mother stands up for her, but never betrays her, she goes on a journey, but not alone, as she has loyal friends that support her in her time of need. It's a fantastic twist on the story, a take of the parent-daughter relationship leading to eventual reconciliation and a return to a happy, blissful family once more. Fantastically done.

I played 神様のゲーム trial. And that was pretty fucking good. I thought it was another generic dark nukige but the writing and the characters really absorbs you in. The H-scenes are really hot with extremly good voice acting. There is no rape and all the girls except one are really open with having sex with the MC. The MC himself is a real gentlemen and don't force the girls into something they don't want. Though the H-scenes get darker with time, they first start with pure vanilla, then to toys, threesome and anal with soft BDSM. but to this point all the girls are pretty willing and enjoying it and that's what turns me on. All the heroines are uniqe and differ in age and personality too. one of them is a 30 years old milf .

Dolphin Divers one route done. Aka "your typical moege" flat edition. Meaning all (main)-heroines are flat. Not lolis, just flat.

It's.. really typical in a lot of ways. Pretty much a typical wall-kun MC. Known archtypes. Padding. And here and there some nice things that then get repeated 5 times and are no longer nice. The actual route was pretty bad with that, as it felt like it used the same drama/issue several times in a row, just so they don't have to finish it immediately.

There were good things, but unless you aren't into its overall theme (or flat girls), this isn't really worth it I feel. One route is more than enough for me.

It's really not great for plot. Art is incredible and the characters are pretty likeable but the plot is drama-heavy and kind of dumb, bites off more than it can chew and delivers badly. Enforced playing order also means heroine importance isn't exactly equally distributed, and as usual the worst girls are given the most focus and the best ones get relegated to side shenanigans.

Your experience may vary however, and if you don't expect much from the mystery angle it's pretty alright.

It is real pretty to look at. Amazing how much extra proper shading adds.

Does anyone know how to get visual novels into borderless windowed mode while taking up the whole screen? I tried to use two different programs for this purpose - they both removed the window border, but the VN did not stretch to fit the whole screen. This is because you're supposed to change the windowed resolution of the game in question to your desktop resolution, but VNs typically do not have resolution settings so this is not possible. Does anyone have any ideas?

I thought it was absolutely great. Great characters, dialogues, and dramatization of historical events. I really liked that the characters had this tension and feeling of helplessness at times from being swept by the changing times and not knowing what the future holds for them, sometimes questioning if their actions were really the right choice. There was just this sense of seriousness which really kept my attention while reading it and it felt believable to me. It was also damn educational for a person like me who only had a vague sense of what went on during the 幕末. Something I didn't like about it was I think I could have done with the whole 瘴姫 and 鬼瘴石 (basically women chosen by a 鬼瘴石 become a 瘴姫 and become physically superior to men and have unbreakable katanas) aspect of the story. It has a role in the story but I just thought it felt a bit forced. There are other things like some plot holes and somewhat abrupt endings that caught my attention but even with these things considered I really enjoyed it.
