I'm going to keep this short because I've replied to at least a hundred threads like this before, but whatever.

Classes suck, I do not recommend them. Most programs suck (especially if you're thinking about rosetta stone or the likes - don't waste money on them).
From here on out it all comes down to how dedicated/interested you really are. I would start by learning hiragana and katakana, best to get Heisigs "remembering the Kana" for that, or if you don't wanna spend money on that yet you can just use brute memory.
After that I'd get Genki 1+2 along with their workbooks (torrent it, it's pretty expensive).
After, in between, or even before using Genki (depends on how you wanna do it) you'll definitely have to learn Kanji. Genki teaches some, but not all the essential ones. Most definitely get Heisig's "Remembering the Kanjo Vol 1" and learn them.
Download a SRS (google spaced repetition system).

After you're done working through the books it's just you and Japanese. Read, listen to as much Japanese as possible. <- THis is pretty much the most important part.
Do not get a Kanji dictionary (they're nice for example sentences and looking up random things, but if you want to know what a specific Kanji, or god forbid, a specific word means it's jsut brutul to have to look them up). Use : http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1C
Great dictionary, great example sentences, use it frequently. Oh and don't learn vocab from vocab list, best to learn it in context.
For every question you will probably ever have on grammar, consult this site: http://www.guidetojapanese.org/ absolutely brilliantly written and full of essential information + advanced stuff.

Other than that, がんばってね
