A typical night on Awamori:

1: Meet up with some friends in a local Japanese bar.
2: Have a few glasses of Awamori
3: Blackout
4: ???
5. Profit!

so, blacking out is more common than not?

that's pretty gay

I wouldn't mind trying some Awamori but I don't think they sell it in the States.

The 60 proof stuff isn't so bad as long as you limit yourself to two glasses. But the 80+ will kill you harder than Absinthe, considering you drink it by the glass, not shot.

>>1598715

Probably not.

so, 80 proof is 40 %(Vol.)
that's pretty much like whisky or cognac or something.

I'd like to taste it, but I like beer or mixed cocktails better than what I mentioned above. Some cognac is nice, though.

The difference is drinks like whisky come in single or double shots. When you get a whisky on ice, yes, it's in a big glass, but it's still only a shot or two. Awamori comes in half pint glasses as standard.

Umm... I take shots of 151 proof bacardi all the time... does that mean im gonna die soon?

>> No.1598791

A shot of that won't do anything to you. Try 20 and you may start getting somewhere.

nice

I never do shots anyway

That's the spirit!

I also helped to invent a new cocktail in my local bar using Awamori and a Watermelon Liquor. The barman asked me what I wanted to call it, but I went blank. Took a sip of it, and strength of it mixed in with the fruity flavor made me mumble "Jesus" in appreciation.

It's now on the drinks list in that bar as ヘイズス

that sounds pretty good.

This watermelon liquor too. I hope it's not some of that "yo dawg, we heard you liked watermelon and rum, so we put some artificial stuff in your rum to make it taste like watermelon".

They have all sorts of weird fruit liquors. I've seen pretty much everything from watermelon and melon (which Japanese people are obsessed with, example, melon fanta) to more standard stuff like apple and strawberry. It's usually anywhere between 40 and 60 proof.

That's pretty cool.

I like all that tropical stuff, so if everything else fails I can just get drunk, I guess.

Can you buy alcohol in regular stores, or do you have to shop at some monopoly like business to get your drink on?

Everything from Supermarkets to Convenvience Stores sell booze. Convenience stores are expensive and mostly carry major beers and chu-hai, but do sell some other stuff as well. Supermarkets are the cheapest and have a bigger selection.

But proper liquor stores are the best. In my town of 50000 people there's 3 liquor stores I know of, and they're pretty big. Lots of choice mean it'd take years to get through everything. Japanese people love their booze.

That sounds awesome.

Northern Europe isn't really known for its wide selection of tropical booze. So everything's usually taken care of with juice and rum/vodka.

>> No.1598883

Japan has a real choice. Everyone's automatic assumption is Japan = Sake.

But the Japanese are big on a lot of drinks. Shochu, Chu-hai, cocktails and surprisingly whisky. There's a lot of variation. Some of the beer isn't half bad either, they're quite good at making darker ales.
