That's not true at all you silly bean.
You are fully responsible for everything about yourself and your life right now.
You've been alive since the universe was created, and you did this to yourself, for whatever reasons you had to.
You don't remember of course, any other plane of existence before this one.

Speaking only in this plane though, you're still wrong.
You can master anything you set your mind to.
Especially something like becoming a 2D artist. There are so many much more difficult passions to work on for years to be a master at, but really, just drawing is not so impossible to do.

All it takes is the commitment to take the time to practice over and over.
If you can practice something once, you can master it through repetition.

>> No.15843517

Maybe some people can, but most can't. Practicing at something doesn't mean you'll be good at it.

So you can go from drawing like a 3rd grader to drawing like a 4th grader after years of practice?

Then why aren't there dozens of Picassos or Rembrandts? It's because art is a skill you're born with, like math or athleticism.

>> No.15843654

Talent only matters at the highest level. Nobody expects you to become one of the greatest fucking artists of all time.

Attaining basic competence, which is all you need to draw chinese cartoons, is something anyone can do if they're willing to put in the effort. And to be frank, you can be pretty shitty and there will still be at least a few people that like your pictures.

We have so many artists on that level now that nobody gives a shit about them, so we don't know their names, literally just google a painting of anything and you'll find dozens of paintings of that quality.
People are more educated and it's easier to get training, it's just not as impressive.

You are just being silly. You are a master at being silly! You got this way by practicing your silliness again and again! You already know all this, but it's fun talking to you regardless.

But if you meant to say your statement with regards to overall potential and not present ability I would say in the grand scheme of all that exists that would be correct.

There is a difference between good and master.
I do think people have genetic/very early life predisposition to be skillful at certain things. I think it like skill graph, the outline is different for everyone (it's not uniform, like here, but maybe an ellipse). Some have more potential towards one thing. But that doesn't mean that much, because only very few reach their "full potential". So even if you're born under less fortunate stars you may still become better than someone that didn't put any effort in.

That's just how I think of it.

>> No.15853118

I agree with this. Yeah, you can git gud at drawing even if you have no talent. But god damn will it be tough in comparison to someone that "just does it".

Sometimes I wish I was good at drawing but then I remember that I think drawing is very tedious and not fun, and that I have nothing I particularly want to make. I used to be slightly jealous of artsy fartsy people but now I don't really care, I've tried doing that stuff and it's not even fun; it's not in my blood to be good at it, and I'm not going to practice stuff I don't like anyway.

People tend to naturally find their way into things that they are good at. Only the extremely unlucky or lazy have absolutely no skills, not even stuff like being good at video games or being a good critic.

>> No.15853150

Another guy, but I prefer not to think of it as a discrete, linear thing, as it's too restrictive. It's more like for any one skill everyone starts at 0 and can gradually increase, but growth is sub-linear (diminishing return for the same amount of effort). The growth for different people will be different, reflecting predispositions, but also growth for one skill is affected by the state of all of your skills. Being good at one thing can help you learn another, and overall as you age from youth you become more competent. Also, as you get better at one skill you might improve faster, even though overall the return in skill diminishes as you get better.

What you see in "talent" is part predisposition and part growing all skills in ways that happen to help growth in one specific skill. It might take less effort for one person to git gud than another, but because returns on improvement diminish there's no reason somebody "untalented" can't get to the same place.

by the thousands of artists who started from different, extremely low levels and slowly worked their way up.
there are very few people with talent who actually try their hardest, those are the kinds of people who become the Sargents and other masters.
Because of the nature of art and the huge amount of hours you need to perfect it a lot of talented people reach a comfort zone and stop progressing, which mean that a lot of people who go further are actually people without talent, because it's harder for them, they end up with a stronger work ethic.
The people that become true masters are people who have talent, but work as hard as people who don't, but you can become an extremely proficient professional without being a master

True and untrue. I think there is a difference between technical art skill and artistic art skill. A person can be naturally talented and able to perfectly replicate the works of renowned artists but without artistic talent that is all they will ever be able to do. Without artistic talent an artist will never be able to make a compelling original piece of their own.

For example, a talented guitarist who can play the most complex solo ever written is nothing more than a good cover artist without the ability to write their own compositions.

The famous classical artists we know today are as famous as they are because they had the right mix of technical and artistic talent.

I see some of the outline is not as confident especially the hair (I know that feeling) and the wooden shoes.
The accessory and miko suit is already well drawn.
sadly manga drawing required those cloth folding/shading (which is somewhat a pain to make)

other then that u might want to start practicing using dynamic poses now.
we can get to "moe eyes" and "bust sizes" later

>> No.15929293
File: 119 KB, 600x827, Graphite.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]

Here's a general comparison of graphite pencil.

also the pressure and how hard you press your pencil to create a thin/thick outline plays a part. I've seen some artist capable of doing a full traditional drawing only using a single 4B pencil.

also generally some erasers does their job better then most other eraser. electric erasers often make quick work of thin line. but doesnt erase well and leave black smudges from darker graphite.

Pentel's brand or ANY high polymer rubber eraser tend to get the job done. but can be damaging to the paper and can cause wearing, thinning the paper causing rips

>> No.15929304
File: 163 KB, 850x820, Autumn Circle.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]

Also there's a wide variety of issues when creating a perfect picture.
From the size of the paper, smudges, until the process where you upload your picture.

Uploading picture generally can cause some issues. I've seen some discoloration and blurring more often then not. if you can...
do make some tweak in photoshop. you can adjust the pic into RGB value and tweak the contrast and brightness; I generally go with -6 , 34 (depends on your resolution or monitor as well)

also PLEASE resize the image if you can (some scanners/photos can load a gigantic picture unless you resize it)
Hope this helps!

Day 20: Marisa

Got some proper paper and better erasers, much better to work with.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I really do appreciate all the tips and suggestions.

You've got your line work down great here, only issues are minor anatomy things like her waist and arms. Honestly its really great to see you improving.

anon did get well, getting reference and researching on dynamic poses will help him along the way of becoming a good touhou artist.

artistic tool goes a long way in helping you get into the habit of drawing more touhous. yes it has to become a habit.
dont worry about minor incorrect proportion letting you down. as long as your overall picture is there. you always use it as a "stump" drawing later on.

also KEEP your previous art and be sure to review them back in 6 years or something. just to see if you git gud or not

meanwhile im trying to find the time to draw. too busy doing chores and work ;w;

Start off with a cheap, non-Wacom one if you plan to go digital.

Do it yourself.

Hold on while I revise the sketch...

Never mind, I'm a lazy shit. Kiss my ass goodbye.

Winky face!

You're a villain!

>> No.15934881

hmm its hard finding a cheaper version in 3rd world count(cunt)ry

the hourglass curves look good, stiff but look good nonetheless.

The facial expression or head position could be arranged for the better (as if her head stood and her eyes looking at the viewer, instead of tilting)

>> No.15934915

as if she was sitting straight, instead of relaxing*

>> No.15934918

And you're silly!

That's actually the base sketch for the one I made a few posts up.

I'm in a third world fuckass island too. Finding a tablet here requires quite some persistence, but you can still find one nonetheless. I think the cheap first tablet I got was from a bookstore, actually.

>> No.15934938 [DELETED]

aye I've seen could reposition her head a bit.

lol, if I were that lucky to obtain such treasure~
this be no pirate game lad- those things come and gone in a sec if it were to be put in a bookstore.

also people selling drawing tablet at inflated price and gouging the price to heck (not to mention currency values , etc) its difficult obtaining medium sized tablet for desk work/private use

>> No.15934948

aye I've seen the full drawing (spoiler) previously. the head could use some adjusments.

arr mateys those things be treasure like in an island especially in a book store. it'll be gone in a sec.

not to mention the price gauging and dem stores selling at inflated prices (currency value etc.) It'll be a miracle if I get any

Day 21: Reisen

Thanks, I'm trying to learn how to anatomy better and hopefully that'll help me achieve poses better.

Well I've drawn for much longer than I have posted here, but just on/off. Getting a consistent schedule has helped me keep focused on what I need to improve.

>> No.15937318

You just don't want to draw the vagina, don't you.
How does one draw a vagina/nipples?

>> No.15938189

as you practice more you should learn adding details to picture such as shadow and shading (cross-hetching and other stuff)

I believe you can be a self-taught artist. however more in depth studies will require you to attend courses or ask someone experienced in industry to improve and in order to produce High quality touhou art

never forget to ask for critism and what to improve ;)

>> No.15938201

Nipples are quite easy to draw (it wont reveal much in traditional drawing unless you block it or color it in dark graphite)
in digital u can get away with slightly larger or absurdly small nipples.

vagina on the other hand...its completely alien ;w;
(cause actual vagina is really hard to make to look "good")

Can't go wrong with a puffy slit, simple and popular.
If you're actually trying to go for the real deal, then good luck.

>> No.15938223

that's the idea....im not sure if this actually looks "real" or close enough to one.

puffy slit or stuffed one generally easier to draw and lots of reference lying around. Just look at uncensored works~

>> No.15938808

Use real photographs for references, never drawings. Else, it's like getting a photocopy which is the great grandchild of the original.

Day 22: Eirin

Yeah I'm having a hard time adding detail into areas that I don't know what they should look like.

So far I've just been trying to reflect on what I've done on the previous day and try improve in the next one. This is why constructive criticism that I've been receiving has been very helpful, helps me find the screwy parts easier.

>> No.15942831

I like the crease lines on her dress, gives it a better nice sense of 3D.

You might try doing a bit of coloring now and again. You've got a semi-solid base, but eventually you'll want to expand into coloring and shading if you want your pictures to be really high quality eventually.

Day 23: Kaguya

Had to leave it pretty much unfinished because I need sleep. Today was mostly an exercise in trying to figure out clothing creases, which is still hard.

I'm gonna get into coloring when I go digital again. Traditional colors are a bit too much for me.

>> No.15947757

well you are doing fine, I like houraisan already. sadly the tilting head does look a bit off.

maybe its just her long face.

well if you ever get back to digital do not forget that you can scan your previous work and improve it from there.

good luck and have fun :3c

Day 24: Mokou

Looks like the thread is dying from bump limit.

Yeah I think coloring scans is probably the best idea in any case, unless I get a cintiq or something. I can't get my strokes straight with my old bamboo.

>> No.15953016

Good job. It's great to see you improve in just a small span of time. Quick tip: try to pay some attention to the neck, as most pictures seem to have slightly longer necks than normal.

>> No.15953085

Protect clowns!

>> No.15955651

Looking back at your earlier drawings, your lines aren't too confident and have chicken scratch.

What I'm trying to say here is that this MIGHT contribute to the disconnect you have with your Wacom Bamboo.
You should try to do the lessons on Drawabox in both traditional and digital, so that you can do line art with both methods.

Anyway, good progress. I like it. Don't give up, anon, I trust you.

File: 267 KB, 894x1430, tewi.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]

Day 25: Tewi

Thanks. For some reason I keep making the necks too long even when drawing I'm like "this time it's looking right". It's off again.

I think it's more about not being able to see where I'm supposed to draw, can't get my angles straight. With pencil I can handle longer strokes at any angles but I'm having a hard time doing cleaner lines if I spend a lot of time figuring out where the lines should be in the first place.

>> No.15957975

draw necks before you draw clothes - the collar tends to fuck with your head and make you draw things longer than they should be.
