How much Engrish does the average Japanese person know? I mean obviously most won't be fluent but if it's mandatory in school(or at least that's what I've heard) they must know some of it.

I took latin (which is piss easy since we never wrote sentences ourselves, only translated) for two years of high school, and forgot nearly all of it within half a year.

Cogito, ergo sum.

I learned French for 3 or 4 years at school, now I'm out of school for 4 years and don't know shit because I never needed it. Same goes prolly for elevens, they don't really need english so even if they learned some, they won't make use of it and forget.

I would think they're aware of the phonetics behind words to an extent.

Why else would every anime OP have the songs subtitled using English phonetics?

No I'm not talking about the English the subbers put in at the bottom.
