Why is Ichirin so unloved? She's got a cool outfit, pleasant personality and a big fluffy cloud friend!

What isn't to love?

I think it is the 'nun' aspect that baulks some folks, especially those of a hardcore religious background, coupled with being just one of a real interesting cast and being an early level character is a recipe for being lost in the shuffle for my money.

Because she's a Byakuren fangirl.
Her drinking just makes me hate her more, it shows she doesn't really adhere to Buddhism, but she keeps supporting that shitty faction.

Taoism is shit too, only Shinto in Gensokyo. House Christians are fine too given the time period and the fact that they never reveal themselves.

Reimu's god could be manifested now if others werent stealing her faith.

In the long run, being playable and redesigning her was a good idea. Before her redesign I don't think anyone gave her much thought. It's much more vibrant a design.

Also her last word is "The Magnificent Era of Old Men"

Her powers I believe, or lack of.

If her powers was shooting pink cloud fists by herself instead of summoning another character to do it, she would have been more popular, since fans seem to preffer powerful characters much more than weak ones, and Ichirin can't do much alone except for wheel danmaku and boxing. Combine that with having a boring and undefined personality back in UFO, and being part of cast that was never that much popular as a whole, and she was doomed from the start.

I've always liked her though. At first it was because her unusual design and her association with the sky, which gave her some great fanart. Then it was just her unpopularity that made me root for her, until she became one of my favorites, which I'm glad because SoPM, HM and ULiL did wonders to her.

I never expected her to be playable or get this much attention, and she got more than what many other characters will ever get. So I'm still happy even if fans don't care much about her.
