I suggested once that /jp/ should make a similar list for VNs, but it turned into a discussion about which of the animus were worthy of their place on the animu recommendation list.

>> No.1547987

You know, I never understood why /a/, /m/, and /jp/ are separate boards. They all talk about the same shit.

>> No.1547992

>>1547976
That was a mistake in itself. Even in pure VN threads there are shitstorms about which VN is better than which and why X VN sucks more than Y VN. And this is not including the more popular companies' VNs.

>> No.1547996

>>1547992
I should have known better after seeing the discussion threads in /a/. I'm sorry, I failed you. There's no excuse for that.

Last time I checked, /a/ mostly talked about tripfags, GETs and slavs.

>> No.1548007

>>1547976
You must have done that during the daytime.

I've noticed recently more and more /a/ fags retreating to /jp/ during afterschool hours when their board sucks more than usual. People are posting pictures and making references to Geass and whatever the hell else anime is popular now all over the place. I swear, sometimes I don't know what's happened to this board.

>> No.1548009

>>1547987
GET OUT.

>> No.1548032

Well, it's kind of hard to do a VN recommendation list when most of us have barely played anything. Even I have only played around 40-50; VNs/eroge are not my area of expertise.

Maybe Eroge_Expert(s) can come in here and offer some top titles of each genre, and we could get a list going.

Also, it's nice to see that terrible OP pic again. Once again I'm almost tempted to correct it.

Carnival
Saihate no Ima

Shinjyu no Yakata
Ayakashi
Moshimo Ashita ga Hare Naraba

That's as far as any recommendation list I would come up with goes - I've played them all and they're Pretty Good. Even if you don't love these games, I don't think you'd outright dislike any of them.

>> No.1548056

>>1548044

Good eye, anon.

>> No.1548060

>>1547987
You know, I never understood why there are any separate boards at all. A thread is where you talk about stuff.

>> No.1548068

>>1548060
Because people are interested in some fields and not others, and it's helpful to have threads categorised by relevance like this so there's less stuff to skip through. I liked the /a/ and /jp/ split because I've never really liked anime or manga, and now the number of those threads has been substantially reduced. I don't care much about Touhou either, but that's not a great deal to skip over. Now, if the board was also filled with guns, cars, western comics and yaoi, I probably wouldn't even want to bother fishing out the eroge threads - I'd just go elsewhere.

Why should /jp/ make a recommendation list when Japan has made plenty?

I figured Gunjyou no Sora would be the first thing to occur to many people when it comes to 'Mecha/Military'.. guess not!

But yeah, the main thing that would plague any of these lists is what to include. Anime sort of works because at least there aren't 500+ new series' being released every year.

The general rule is that someone just starts talking about a game, then threads start appearing everywhere, giving it some sort of artificial 'popularity' on /jp/. I think Wanko became popular on /jp/ this way. So, post Gunjyou no Sora threads!

Of course it's a question of taste but everything that has more than 80 here is good one way or another, and if you like a certain genre 75 is a good cutting point too.

>> No.1548411

>>1548392
For me, 65 or so is my 'I won't hate it' cutoff point. That said, I also shove a 'data_suu=50' into the URL as well just so I don't get all the crap with inflated results thanks to a few people who are fans of a particular 'niche' being the only ones to have played a game.

>> No.1548439

>>1548392
Now you can play only the popular games!

Don't get me wrong, popularity is a good indicator for people just starting out and wondering what to get, and the site is great as just a giant list, but I've probably enjoyed as many games from the 50-65 range as the 80-95 range. In particular, if you're really just looking for porn, especially if it's something less "normal," you're better off looking for genres and content rather than ratings.

>> No.1548458

While just sampling the top is good, what you really want are the POVs.. categories/tags that users assign games to, and are listed, grouped in categories on that game's EGS page, with the number of people that nominated a particular game for that category. To me, it would be more useful if it was divided by the total number of votes for the game, because the game with the best 'Imouto' POVs isn't necessarily the game with the best imouto! (In this case, it's Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na, which has a pretty damn fine imouto, but anyway). It's worth looking into if you like specific categories of things - I found Konata Yori Kanata Made that way--it's the #1 title for 'Life and death' or something, and it turned out to be exactly what I was after.

>> No.1548469

>>1548458
Oh, and scenario writers. Since they are usually (but not always) the 'vision' behind the story (VNs where one person comes up with the vision and other scenario writers go and write the actual story often end up being a bit mediocre; see wind -a breath of heart-), they're a good way of finding new VNs you might like. For example, 'setsuei' isn't likely to pop up if you just look at top-tier titles, but if you like Tanaka Romeo's other work it's more goodness, and I found it pretty damn great.

Also any recommendation list that doesn't have anything from Nekoneko-soft or Key is worthless, at the very least titles like Gin-iro, Aka or Air are classics.

He should replace Rondo Leaflet, admittedly pretty mediocre, with Little witches Romanesque, a really good eroge.
