Well, on the main street there are countless shops that sell generic Japan-themed souvenirs or expensive watches, clothes etc. All these have nothing to do with the image of Akihabara, be it otaku-style goods or electronics. So these stores aims at tourists that just came to Akihabara cause it's not a generic tourist destination.

For electronics there are huge stores like Sofmap, Laox etc., that againt aim at tourists. Laox specifically aims at Chinese ones and often you can see buses with Chinese tourists parking right before the store.

Streets are also littered with countless places to get food of all kinds. In the backalleys you can get kebab at few places, for example.

For otaku-goods you have the more mainstream side. That stuff is usually on the first floors of shops and then higher you go, more niche and pornographic things get. Or lower, some stores have eroge and/or doujinshi in basements.

Around some places you can find girls/maids giving out fliers for cafe where they work, but it's mostly the super mainstream ones like MaidDreaming.

In the backstreet you can find some remains of the "old Akihabara". There are some non-chain electronics stores, one even just like an open market in some garage. Also the smaller eroge shops, like Kamifuusen or Medio.

There are tons of high buildings and in their various floors you can find event spaces. Their entrances are often small and easily overlooked, but sometimes you can see lines of people standing before some non-descript building, so you can surmise there's some upcoming small idol live or something like that going on.

Sometimes you can see in those flanel shirts. And on eroge release day, they even have bags with eroge and perhaps even with a rolled poster, since on release day there are usually promotional giveaways for future releases.

Although the Japanese "internet" is not a case of regression but of usage-- the ubiquity of cellphones and general lack of PCs means that text is abundant and "new-age buzzword" dev as we know it is rarer, so I doubt it's always the case. Then there's stuff like mobile game development and you only need to look at Pazudora / Granblue / FGO to know that that's something some people will want.

I looked through every inch of every floor of the Akiba Toranoana today for (C89) [ろ~たり~Engine (神無月元史)] チマハメ (ご注文はうさぎですか?) [英訳]

It's on their website. Does anyone know where else I could find it? I can't tell if it's because it's popular and sold out, or not popular and therefore not stocked.

If I can't buy it in stores, is there a way to order it online without needing a proxy? I'm only here for another week.

Is it porn or non-h?
Porn section is separated so you would know you would be at the right place. Usually new book by popular artists would be displayed prominently next to the aisle so you can spot them with ease.
I think for Mandarake it should be floor4 or 3 for the Akiba branch. The Shibuya mandarake only has 1floor at the basement. Porn section is at that top left portion if they didn't change layout since the last time I went there.

Right now it's Amatsutsumi, Baldr Heart, Senren Banka, Floral Flowlove. Some less "high profile" titles are often advertised on Softmap Akiba 1, there's more space there.

Before its release Maitetsu had pretty much all of the biggest ad spaces and its OP was played on screens in front of several shops.

In a month or two I expect Sen no Hatou to be all over Akihabara. It already was pretty visible in April, when the preorders started.

All gone soon after release. The biggest ad, high up on Sofmap Amusement 館, changed into Purely x Cation even few days before Maitetsu came out. Now it's Amatsusumi, but in between it was few ads for console games. Under that there's a smaller ad for Gin'iro Haruka, which stayed for quite some time now.

Pretty much every ad changes really quickly after the game comes out. For example Maitetsu was on Trader 3 too, now it's Senren Banka, but before it Hanahime Absolute for example.

These ads are obviously non-H and few times I saw ranfom western tourists take photos of them. An exception is Trader 2 recently, the one right opposite to KFC. There's ad for Tayutama 2 with lewd daki showcased too, with minimal censorship.

Also you can see some constant ads inside shops in hard to reach places. For example the wall near the escalator to 6th floor in Softmap Amu is one huge picture of Sakigake Generation heroines.

Pretty much any jap store that put up poster buying/selling stuff will have them. Even some noname/non-chain small time book stores will have a cabinet for 2nd hand stuff.

Yeah, second hand market for entertainment media and electronics is huge in Japan and it's great.

When getting a console, in Akihabara I'd avoid Trader or Sofmap, they tend to be on the expensive side. In Sofmap you can perhaps get a good deal if you have their card and buy console + games en masse on 中古の日.

If you're just going for a single purchase, I'd try Book Off, they have consoles too. The Book Off in Akihabara is not on 中央通り, but it's close.

I guess. I admit this isn't the side of Akihabara I dug too deep into.

The maids from MaidDreaming are certainly the most visible ones, but I saw even some different maid cafes around. Also diferently themed cafes, so you can see girls dressed as ninjas or bishonens etc. around as well. And of course the JK-themed shops are there too. When you go on the street from KFC/Trader 2 towards Akiba Culture Zone, you'll see JKs, then maids, then the other costumed girls.

Once I saw some older guy walking around with a JK-themed girl, which was a curious event, so I kinda watched where they went and she lead him to a smaller shop somewhat far away. Maybe that's what locals go for?

Abit late now, i left japan yesterday and are now returning to norway.
But the question would be "where can i get some damn monster hunter figures?"
I walked around in akihabara for ages until my feet burned and skin on fire from this damn tropical climate.
All i could find was leftover figures from monsters nobody wants. Read on the internet that best place to buy mh stuff is on amazone
