For all the fan worship that Type-Moon gets, it's amazing the kind of mediocrity they get away with as far as story ideas ago. Of course, having a similarly mediocre artist probably doesn't help—the off-proportion character designs, and screenshot abuse make this about as visually appealing as watching paint dry. But with more weapons and magic. Speaking of the weapons and magic aspect—the whole thing sounds like a sorcerous version of Pokémon, what with "masters" and "servants" and a "war for the Holy Grail" and a Shonen-Jump-for-Dummies tournament scheme. Even Shirou fancies himself to be some kind of "hero of justice," which sounds cool when you're eight years old, but given the level of sophistication the Fate franchise is supposed to have ... no. This isn't action. This is dumb.

Fate/stay night is generic shonen.

Holy Grail War = the typical, generic shonen fighting plot device. It is the Tournament of Champions in Dragonaball, the ninja exam crap in Naruto, the Alice Game in Rozen Maiden, etc. It is an extremely weak excuse to have all your characters fight each other. And what makes it worse for FSN is that this is basically the entire plot in a nutshell.

Disliking Fate/stay Night just because it uses shounen battle tropes is stupid. The tropes themselves arn't the problem, it's the marketing monstrosities they create where little 13 year olds will eat up 100 episodes of filler without a single thought. Until Nasu makes a 300 episode animu series to sell toys and copies of shounen jump and to just generally shit up the fandom, I won't really give a shit. At the end of the day, Fate/stay Night is still an eroge marketed towards smelly otaku and not little kids.

The basic concept is NOT what matters (aka, fighting, surviving, doing ot for fun or whatever). EVERYTHING has been done.

What matters is the setting (under which circumstances and the basic rules/guidelines of the world), and then the EXECUTION. It doesn't have to strive to be ORIGINAL, just well done.

F/sn has a basic concept, a VERY good setting, and then NASU execution.

Unlike Tsukihime manga, that in some ways is better than the original VN, Fate manga is not very good.

Fate is trolled for two main reasons:

- Message faggotry: This is honestly deserved, as it's the direct results of rubbing procrastination in the face of others and expecting them to eat it up like pie. Just like now, the dissatisfaction stems from quick, efficient progress grounded to a halt for one or two people.

- Power levels: This is where everyone else gets lost, and non-TM fags get annoyed with the fandom. The books say one thing, Rin states that the 5th war participants are the strongest servants ever summoned, Gilgamesh vs TTGL--it's pointless fun that spiraled far out of control until the land was sick of it (much like religion). In truth, the powerlevels are so utterly insignificant that it makes no difference whatsoever. Arthur, supposedly the STRONGEST in the Saber class of Servants, is bested and handicapped time and again. Rin of all people manages to take Berserker's life once. Shirou pulls miracles from his ass more often than even Shiki Tohno. The point is that the STORY dictates the fight, and not just base power levels. But you can't convince the diehard ORT-lovers of this without falling to the passion of fuck YES Gilgamesh could probably destroy Chounga Gurren Lagann yourself, and thus the onlookers become annoyed by the vicious daisychain. And in turn, they troll every topic until it is sagebombed and forgotten.

You can even tell that this reviewer falls into the later crowd: some con-goer/guest writer who gets the game harped in his/her face by all his/her buddies and compatriots, probably lurks the Beast Lair forums, and definitely lurks as anon. They're tired of the hype, and were suddenly given the job of putting a comparable, believable set of pros and cons together for the manga version.
