A young female idol is in critical condition after she was repeatedly stabbed by an apparent fan in the city of Koganei, Tokyo, police said.

Mayu Tomita, 20, has yet to regain consciousness after suffering nearly two dozen stab wounds to her neck and chest.

Police arrested Tomohiro Iwazaki, 27, after he was seen assaulting Tomita with a knife at an event held in a building in the city at around 5 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect was reported to be a fan of hers and has admitted attacking her, according to police.

Tomita may have been a victim of stalking. The Metropolitan Police Department said the idol had consulted police earlier this month, saying a man named Iwazaki had persistently written to her via her blog and Twitter account.

When police received a call from an eyewitness and rushed to the scene, they found a bloody folding knife. Iwazaki was standing nearby and admitted using the knife to stab her.

Tomita was scheduled to appear at a live performance event later that night. The building is some 300 meters southwest of JR Musashi-Koganei Station and close to Koganei City Hall.

It's a weird phenomenon for sure, but while the result is negative I think the cause of it is generally positive. We (white people, the West) genuinely hold the Japanese to our standards as equals and that's something surprisingly rare in this world.
If something bad happens elsewhere it gets a shoulder shrug and "can't be helped", but we expect better from the Japanese. It's a very distinct "honor".

Really the thing is it's not like this is exclusive to Japan. Shit like this (right down to morality clauses and the like) exist with teen pop stars here in America as well. Also, regarding the attacker's motivations, there apparently was a resentment about a costly wristwatch that he forwarded her as a present and which she apparently rejected, refused to wear or something else. He took her gesture as a snubbing offense, asked her to return it back, then felt insulted at the fact she didn't even deign to put her own name as sender on the package and things escalated accordingly through written harassments on Twitter. Sad indeed, but cyberstalking is a global thing and it has shit to do with /jp/.

I agree that if you're dumb enough to sign onto a contract that includes bullshit like "no boyfriends, no sex, no no no" then you have to own up to the fact that you signed such a thing. What "security measures" will be tightened, considering that the cost of hiring guards and bouncers falls on the bar owners hosting the events and the only reason they rent their halls to singers is just to make some extra money from customers? If these pub halls will be forced to shoulder more security costs for every minor indie singer the call, they would lose more money than they make, which is defeats the purpose.
No, what will happen is that live houses and music clubs will be inviting less and less of those singers and spend more resurces on those who can pay for their own safety.

That's not a very good example tbqh. I agree that they have some differences (In general Koreans tend to have the slantiest eyes, biggest jaws/foreheads and highest cheekbones out of all Asians), but the girl in that picture seems to be wearing those oversized contact lenses that Jap girls love so much, so it becomes really hard to tell if her eyes are actually different from the crowd or not.

Three years ago Iwazaki had been bothering other tarentos on their blogs with threats of murder.
