Nukige cum moege are almost indistinguishable. The only hard line between true nukige and true moege is "time" (i.e. time spent in h scenes/lewd talk relative to comedy/sol scenes) which isn't a factor you can determine without playing the game. A moege which cut out most of the scenes between H would become a nukige. A nukige which added a lot of comedy/sol scenes would become a moege. One litmus test (that doesn't always work) is to see if the characters ever go on dates that don't involve or end in fucking. However some moege are sex crazy (hence being known as "nukige hell" past the common route) so the test doesn't always work. There you go.

Walkure Romanze has 90% of its CGs as porn but it's not a nukige because the majority of time is spent on SOL and comedy. Isekai Lovers spends non-insignificant time on its plot, but the majority of time is either the characters fucking or talking about lewd subjects so it's a nukige. If you were to cut out the common route to Walkure Romanze (aside from character interactions) and trim (not replace) some superfluous dating scenes it would be a nukige.

How about some recommendations then for games that don't just spam you with porn? Something that plenty of dating, romance, things like that.

My problem is that most games like that usually have a strong main story, like doing a big project with the school club or something that I really don't care about when I just want to date a girl.

For me that just leads to having a big back log of H scenes (even if I pick the ones with nice looking CGs) I'll realistically never read through because if I want a quick fap it's easier to fap whatever I'm already reading, an H manga, or a nukige that caters to my fetishes, rather than a vanilla H scene in a VN I already finished reading.

It depends on a game and relationships I guess.
In a nukige without actual romance or between sexfriends 危険日 might mean 避妊日.
But with romantic feelings it becomes a rather complicated mixture of thrill, procreation, responsibility to be together for the rest of our lives and other such things.

Yeah. Vndb should probably have a "changeable font" tag on top of it. Not all games allow you to just change the font from the options or even at all. If you're only concerned about a certain part of the series, this is how it's split up:

Rome: Kyonyuu 3 + possible sequels
Early-Middle Medieval Europe: Kyontuu 2 + 2if
Early 1500's: Kyonyuu 1 + Gaiden 1 + Gaiden 2
Modern day: Kyonyuu Majo

Pettanko is incredibly rare so I doubt it. Japan only really does "kyonyuu" or "loli" when it comes to focused fetishes for "breasts". (well, loli goes a bit further.. there's oppai loli as well and shit, but whatever)
If you want pettanko, you have to search and won't have more than one or two heroines in a VN. Or you need to find an artstyle that's relatively pettanko-ish looking.

I notice there are a lot of VNs on Baidu that cannot be found on Western sites.
I know baidu is a bitch to use, but I have it set up on my VPS. As long as the file size is less than 5GB, I should have no problem transferring it to my Baidu drive and copying the data to my VPS.

If you give me a baidu link, I will try to reupload it to MEGA.I am also not responsible if some asshat included a virus with it, though, since will not be testing the VNs myself.

If anyone would like a guide on using baidu, I can also make a quick tutorial.

Very nice of you, friend, but anyone can rather easily download anything from Baidu using jDownloader. Be sure to raise the "number of connections per download" settinng to get better speeds.

Alternatively, if you want to use Baidu itself, for small files (<1GB, I think) you can just download them through the browser. For bigger files you need to register on Baidu, put the files to your cloud drive and then download them using the Baidu client. The free could is limited to 5GB though, so you'd need to constantly add and delete files, if you want to download something in many parts that's bigger than 5GB. Previously there was a promotion to get 2TB cloud as long as you install the Baidu app to your phone, but I'm not sure if it's still active.

Ok, it turns out it is a royal fucking mess to use a Windows shell for Unicode symbols if you already have the Japanese codec set.

I've been running it on Linux, but I imagine most people will have a "thanks-but-no-thanks" mentality if I tell them to set up a virtual machine just to use Baidu.

None of the Clochette games I've played fall into this category, they do however "suffer" from the game only having 1 overall plot that happens in every route that you see different perspectives (and different conclusions) of depending on which heroine you go for.

From memory Clochette games tend to have 5 scenes per route with those scenes being on the same quality as a good nukige.

I mean I notice that most moege goes like this;

1. Have some random plot device (school club, new school, etc) where there MC gets to meet girls or introduce them to the audience if he knows them already.

2. Have a single arch together to tackle a large issue at hand or just expand on 1, while having apparent time for swimsuit scenes and random high jinks

3.(May join with 2) each girl gets a small mini arc

4.Main plot is over and your choices mattered before you got to know each girl now you are on a route or you fucked up and its game over/bad end.

5.Get to know girl a bit more and may tackle an issue she has, also have sex before really developing any relationship with another. Apparently after 2-4 sex scenes you are now a couple (This should be when you have sex).

Is it a thing to have sex in japan before really developing a bf/gf relationship it seems like a requirement?

You are reading shit or stuff that just doesn't care. There are moege which deal with relationships a LITTLE more realistically. Try Sanoba Witch and Meguru's route.

Unfortunately(?) I don't actually know too many "normal" moege, a lot of stuff I read has some kind of story to make it a bit harder to accurately judge if it's too early or not. Like Hapymaher where sex happens before the whole "couple" thing is established, but with everything going on and how things happen.. it's hardly something I could call that weird there. For the most part. For one thing the protag is incredibly sexually frustrated and the girls are very.. aggressive? Something like that. Which is why he is frustrated in the first place. A vicious circle which actually gets a bit frustrating at some point.
Plus that VN is a bit on drugs, so what's real and what not is also an issue. Like one heroine has a few h-scenes that.. aren't really with her. It's weird. There's even one where you think it's with one heroine but it kinda isn't. Awkward~

The usual theme is friends -> first kiss -> very short duration of bliss/lots of sex -> main conflict of the story -> conclusion. I really like Rin in sakura no uta

How she kinda develops from being all princess like to being flusterd when lewd stuff happens to then joking along with Noaya and everybody groping and stuff it was fun to see.
The thing is there wasn't really any type of dramatic event for this character change or anything just spending time with everybody.

Plus some of her scenes are really romantic like the type to makes me kinda 'fangirl' and stuff. Like the 'touching Noaya during the topless shirt scene' and when after the painting is done when it looks like she's gonna kiss him and jokes about it then acts all sad knowing there's other girls into him and how she thinks she has little chance and stuff.

I always wonder why this even happens in some not-nukige. Like School of Fantasia, an Rpg/Eroge. There is like no sex during the "story". Everything is in heroine events, that get dumped on you at the beginning of every new chapter. Only starts to happen once you are a bit in the game (obviously).
So in later chapters you have like 1.5-3 hours of heroine events, depending on your reading-speed.. and fapping speed I suppose, every new chapter at once (which is terrible enough already) and within that like 5-10 h-scenes. The latest heroine who "joins" gets 7 scenes at once, half of which is h-content.. and all is the same as well. She is literally the butt-girl where deflowering happens last... what's the point? Why do I need three butt scenes right after each other? And why do there need to be like another 5+ afterwards with different girls? Who NEEDS that.

Oh well. Gamedesign. Reading through Harumade Kururu is also a pain in the ass so far. But at least I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

This whole scene is so great. A bit of a different dilemma. Aoba Ringo also does a great job here voicing this as well.

Unfortunate that they didn't show the "stair-sex" scene with Fuyune though. Just reading about it and imagining her "ikimasu~" tumbling down the stairs during the climax is funny enough already. Although nothing beats Shizuka's opinion here, as in the same situation but the Protag in Fuyune's place.
Probably clashes with the usual intent of ero-scenes needing to be erotic, but hey. Not like the art is really compatible with that anyway, if you ask me.

I meant this in terms of mentality. They sold that VN in many ways and milked it to death. So they don't care about it anymore as a western release won't really hurt this games' sales in Japan.

On the flipside, if Mangagamer would announce the most recent entry just now, that'd be a totally different thing. And I doubt the series is that connected that such a thing would be unfeasible. Plenty of longer running series saw their western debut with a later entry. That's relatively normal.

エロゲー places just too much emphasis on ero part to be general reward. ギャルゲー is used exclusively to refer to games without any ero. 美少女ゲーム is just to cumbersome.

Wakoto's route in Lovely Cation 2 is giving me good Notting Hill vibes. Idolshit really tainted the idea of a famous person falling in love with a normal person for me , but the way it's done here is pretty nice. It's creating a nice amount of interpersonal drama that isn't obnoxious but rather smoothly progresses the story and creates a reasonable environment for their romance to grow and develop.

That said Seine's route is hands down superior to me so far. Felt much less contrived. I liked how MC was just friends with her and slowly developed feelings, rather than how he is in Wakoto's route - aiming to deito her from the very beginning, fighting for attention, etc.

Whereas LC2 protagonist barely thinks about his equivalent encouragement which makes Seine's route progress more naturally (i.e. without MC pushing for a relationship hard from day 1) than any other route I've played in the series.

As for the characters of Seine's type, I believe her equivalent in LC1 was Aya, and fuck me that relationship progressed pretty unnaturally. She has sex with MC before they even start dating. She falls in love with him because he played video games with her whereas everyone else was scared off by her rancor, whereas Seine felt a genuine sense of isolation that she couldn't break on her own and thus naturally fell in love with the individual who forgave her flaws and spent time understanding her instead of leaving. In general it seems to me that LC1 was a lot more shallowly written than LC2 in terms of character depth, exception being that LC1's hikki protagonist was a lot more nuanced than LC2's.

I'm finished with Wakoto's route. I wasn't too found of the character dynamics and it was a lot less interesting to read than Seine's so I don't intend to read the other two routes, given that I'm even less interested in those two chatacters. The saving grace was that Wakoto had a lot of really vanilla-kinky H-CGs but that doesn't really cut it for me in a game with so much narrative and dialogue text. I'm leaving Lovely Cation 2 with the following rankings: Seine: 9/10, Wakoto: 5/10 (no fap) 7/10 (fapping), Common route: n/a. Overall score of 8/10 because I really liked Seine's route and the writing in general.

Really, playing this game right after Lovely Cation 1 has put me in an awkward spot. Playing a game with a huge comedy common route seems pretty alien to me now, not to mention a cast of characters that actually interacts. My instincts tell me to therefore start Pretty/Purely Cation but I think I'll save those for later so as to not overwhelm myself with this style of game.

I just through a route in Tonakoi "the respect happiness". As you may remember the company jokes about it being shortened as "tonakoi rape". Well, the joke may go deeper than we all though. In the route I played, the protagonist "raped" his gf multiple times. For instance, she'd be cooking breakfast, tell him to wait until after, but then he forcefully fucks her there. Or, for instance, she asks to take a shower first, and then mentions he's the type who won't attack someone even if goaded, at which point he forced himself on her again. In, you know, pure love moege way, but yeah, mc is definitely raping a lot. Very subtle foreshadowing.

Probably the hardest thing about rationally picking VNs is somehow getting away from the bias of judging games on their art. I instinctively lean towards games with good art and away form those with bad art even though I never prefer good art to good writing. It's a mess. I wish the writing quality of a game were easily expressible in screenshots
