My friends keep dragging me back to this but I don't understand how they can have fun like this if we're all seperated on progress thanks to quests.
I understand grind can be poo in games but this quest singleplayer experience surely can't be for anyone else but your average solo mmo player. I can't even talk to anyone about my woe because everyone just lashes out that I can "grind as much as I want" at level 200, but what are the odds that any of my friends or even me actually hitting that point with all these boring "get quest, kill 3 mobs in this area that take 2 minutes to respawn and repeat" quests? Tera had the exact same problem but you could just grind your way out of the painfully dull storyline of fetching 10 tusk butts and killing 10 tree golems.

MMOs are not as popular as they used to be. As in, there are a few great ones at the top but most of the middle and low end from the mid-late 2000s have disappeared. You can pick one of several popular games and maybe about 50-100 random crappy Chinese MMOs but, while that sounds big, the selection used to be like 10x that. I don't think it's that people are completely losing interest so much as innovations/effort going into other things instead because the novelty of being on the internet has faded for most of the younger (under 25-30) generation. Also, because every other game these days is online, the whole aspect of an MMO isn't as desired because you can already get it in your favorite game.

MMOs used to be about creating an alter ego that required commitment, and involvement with a community.

Now people get all their socializing done of facebook or whatever, so they don't need to socialize in games. Or if they do, it's just steam friends. They're not people you have to interact with, they're just people that you will sometimes play with (MMOs also had this kind of friend, but the fact that you needed them meant a higher chance of it being actual friend level, nor FB friend level).

People just want to hop in for a game or two of whatever FPS, LOL, or whatever multiplayer game is popular. And the bigger MMOs are following in suit to try to retain customers. But in the end they're just shooting themselves in the foot, because they're becoming a normal online co-op game with the UI of a MMO.

One can only hope there might be a small MMO revival with VR tech, because immersing yourself in another world has always been a trope.

Nexon bought it and hid it so they could release Mapleshitty 2 first. It's status is unknown right now. ToS makes me hope they don't even bother showing any previews until/unless they have a game that's somewhat ready for release. My personal opinion. For the most part I only care about player interactions like open PvP which RO2 is very good at. Aura Kingdom was okay with this but game mechanic wasn't that fun.

Tree of Savior is a great example of a game that was developed around a MBA's structure of a cashshop. All aspects of this game are designed with dependence on buying perks and features. Which is a complete and utter disgrace, as the design team did a phenomenal job. An analogy would be an overpriced coffee vending machine that, through some miracle of modern science, offers Pinot noir. iToS is basically it's own branch when it comes to balance and unique content as it seems, and in general it is more of a beta release compared to the korean release because it seemingly was rushed a bit to quell down on the negative reviews the steam page got thanks to the game not being available for everyone in the beta state.

Played it to like level 40. It's not a huge improvement over RO, but atleast it got quests. Granted later on sidequests givers don't have indicators so you might miss them, which is terrible design. The sub class system is pretty shit. Half the options are traps and look so bad that I don't even know why they exist. It's like the devs haven't played an MMO in the last 10 years. The combat is just button mashing and difficulty only comes from 'suddenly flying enemies' or similarely. And then it's all grinding. All in all. Not worth anyones time.

However even in the beginning, real old, 2008 new in America, G1 Mabinogi had a bunch of newbie quests that were just "go here and talk to this guy" and "kill all these different colored bears and wolves". Not even any story. Although, that is because story is completely optional(and even required you to pay to do it back then)

Then there were party quests and hunting quests and the exploration quests which are more or less boar butt quests, with exploration also offering digging quests and sketching quests.

But yeah, it does have quests that don't just involve killing things. Also I can't think of a single "gathering items from a gather point" quest, which is what I hate the most about ToS quests in particular, although I'm sure some story quest has something like that.

But fuck do I hate those gathering quests. I was going to kill those Kepas anyway, but making me pick all those poison spewing, exploding plants that spawn enemies when I fail is the worst.

I wish Mabinogi had significant grinding for cute clothes/hats/robes though and that it would steal that dungeon event thing ToS has going on in the questless dungeons. They're kind of cruddy but interesting.

Aside from guild tower use, talt is basically the game's currency right now when doing player trading because silver is untradable.
Other alternatives are Dispeller Scrolls or Alche Potions but most people will want talt.

You put other gems and items into them so they level up.

When you have good gear. Red (or blue ones when you're a mage) can just be raised to level 4 and stuck in some item you're going to use a while to level with, but anything higher should be saved for good equipment you get later like at 120 or 170. For the most part, they should be used to raise your critical attack rate as a melee character. Mages don't really have much use for them outside of raising magic attack.

They lose a level if you remove them from something so make sure you put them in something you're going to keep for a while. You could also help out a low level alt if you can use team storage with some upgaded, socketed weapon.

Oh yeah, you shouldn't use it in your good equipment until you've upgraded it to your liking (save enough potential to be able to make all the slots), since you might keep failing at upgrading and not get it up that high.

My latancy / ping isn't an issue unless the server itself is lagging.
At first I thought it was just my ping that was causing slow reaction time when interacting with objects but then after the last maintenance the delay was completely gone, however over the last few days it's started coming back.
I suspect it has something to do with the servers being clogged up with spammers, bots etc
Maybe if they simply did server restarts every 48 hours it would keep the lag away but that's just my guess.
