Why was Aki Eda chosen for the Touhou manga anyway?

I mean, the quality was already shaky when she started, but then it started to drop to the point where Zun could have probably taken over himself.

What made him pick her over the rest of the crazy touhou doujin artists out there?

I see your exaggeration. Aki Eda is actually pretty good. The art's simplistic but clearly recognizable. Besides, Eda's productive and actually CAN put up with the release schedule of a monthly manga.

I, for one am happy that she's drawing SSiB, since that keeps her from making more of the godawful bullcrap love stories she was torturing us with.

I don't believe in Touhou pairings, but I thought Sabotage was fairly reasonable and tame compared to Aki Eda's other stuff. But Escape...

Contradictions with my own ideas usually don't bother me much if the way they present it is good enough, but really, Escape was so far out there, so poorly executed with at least fifty romance novel cliches, that I felt like smashing my head against a wall when I was reading it. She also seems to bear a strong aversion to backgrounds.
