Hey guys its Sakura season now marking the beginning of spring.

More importantly it symbolizes the brief and transient nature of life and that we should embrace every moment.

Similarly, I for one thoroughly enjoy my time here on /jp/ with you magnificent and beautiful people.

So lets take advantage of this opportunity, post Sakura pictures, have our own little /jp/ Sakura Hanami, take it easy and get to know and appreciate our fellow /jp/sies.

In the spirit of the Aizu-Wakamatsu live camera threads that has been going on for years that I've also been a part of, here are two high quality live cameras for Sakura Hanami Viewing:

>Nakameguro River, Tokyo (with sound if you turn it up and can eavesdrop)

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nakame-live

>Ueda Castle, Nagano

http://live.ueda.ne.jp/ueda1.html

Feel free to take screenshots, webms of anything interesting to share as well as any other live cameras of similar nature.

金沢市 (Kanazawa), a historical city in the small "peak" of Chubu (look at a map, you'll know what I mean). This city became accessible via the direct line Hokuriku Shinkansen starting March of last year so you can get access to it.

The weather has been quite nice recently but Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture, is quite near the sea and in the range of the aircurrents from Siberia/Korea, which makes the any day here below 15°C or so risky to go out without an umbrella. There's even a saying here: 弁当忘れても傘忘れるな

They are actually from the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC!

>The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, D.C., commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington. Mayor Ozaki donated the trees in an effort to enhance the growing friendship between the United States and Japan and also celebrate the continued close relationship between the two nations.

What is special about sakura compared to other trees?

The only ones I cannot stand are Bradford Pear trees, because of their distinctive smell.

Yeah it really depends on the weather conditions. A frost front puts an instant end to the blossoms. At times they're lucky to even get a full week of blossoms. But, here is eastern Pennsylvania we occasionally get five weeks of blossoms. We just don't have the sheer number of trees & varieties around where I live. Keep telling myself to visit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden or at least visit Longwood Gardens during the blooming season, but never get around to it.

I was looking for a spring blossom thread like this. Thank you OP. The colors and smells, and in such small period of the year, is very peaceful.

If you live near Vancouver they have Canada's version of spring blooming, but the events are mostly over. Also a photo map is made of good viewing spots in the city.
