I think they're kind of cool really. I know we have a negative perception of the stereotypical fat yaoi fangirl and all, but I think it's nice that some women are getting into the subculture in Japan, which such a large majority of is male. I think partially it's just a case of a vocal minority ruining it for everyone; most of them are probably quiet and secretive about their hobbies when not in Akihabara. In addition, depending on the definition you go by, even some well-liked women involved in the whole thing could be considered "fujoshi," like say MI-KO of MOSAIC.WAV.

Dressing up is an easy way to find people that have the same interests as you.

I keep on doing this don't I? I make a lapse in judgment, I shouldn't have stated 'cosplayers' as a general, catch-all term. The fact you have a hobby and are pursuing it and meeting new people is pretty cool - I also think there's something to be said for the practical skill of being able to make tough costumes. That aspect of it I think is quite admirable.

I still can't understand why something like cosplaying could attract the kind of crowd (even though they are a minority) you heard about on places like /cgl/ from time to time though. It seems way too niche and nerdy.
