Yukkuris are fascinating creatures that suddenly appeared in the land of Gensokyo. They were always loved by the villagers because of their cute appearance. Eventually, keeping Yukkuris as pets became a trend. There was a time where Yukkuris can be seen all over the place.

Big Yukkuri: "This is Yukkuri's home!"

During the large growth in the Yukkuri population, the villagers started to dislike the Yukkuri's wild behavior and fast reproduction ability. Sometimes, entire families will be abandoned after being pets for a short period of time, simply because the owner can't stand them. These Yukkuris are either killed for stealing food, or have returned to the forest.

After returning to the forest, these abandoned Yukkuris caused the Yukkuris in the forest to over populate. The Yukkuri's amazingly large appetite caused the food supply in the forest to collapse. Plants, fruits, insects, or even smaller monsters because victims to them. Other animals were also in danger because of the food shortage.

As the amount of Yukkuri family increase, they also became more territorial. Most of the time, they will not accept living in the same place with other animals or monster. They always ignore the kindness of other animals and attack them in groups.

top speech bubble: "Yukkuri drop dead"
right speech bubble: "Yukkuri get out:

Eventually, there was enough of them to chase away other animals. A lot of the nests of the animals were raided. There were even rumors that small animals were eaten by Yukkuris.

Once the forest can't handle the Yukkuri's, the next victims became the farmers who live far away from society. Lots of the farm houses were raided with the crops destroyed and the food supply cleaned out. A lot of the older farmers, who are too old to deal with the horde of Yukkuris, can only sit and watch as their fortune disappear.

There once was a young Kimeemaru, who, like other Kimeemarus, enjoyed not taking it easy. For the first few weeks of its life, it lived comfortably alongside its family. Its parents would often tell it how the humans were their friends, and when the Kimeemaru learned how to fly it began to visit the village. At first it would only observe the humans at a safe distance, but eventually felt that it would be fun to play with them. One day, it decided to try to interact with these fascinating creatures and flew into the village. Most of the people walking about didn’t notice the small yukkuri, which unsettled it, until it heard a voice shout, “Look at that thing!”

Turing around, the Kimeemaru found that the voice came from a boy who was with a group of children. “Hey human, do you want to play with me?” the Kimeemaru asked. “Eww. The ugly thing talks,” another boy told his friends. This began a bombardment of insults directed at the yukkuri, including “ugly”, “disgusting”, and “terrifying”. One child picked up a stone and threw it at the Kimeemaru and his friends began to do so as well. The stones pelted the Kimeemaru, causing it to bleed some of its bean paste. The Kimeemaru started to cry and run away. How could the humans, who were supposedly its friends, turn out to be so cruel?

It was so damaged that the Kimeemaru was barely able to fly. It had become night, but fortunately for the yukkuri, it was almost home. When it reached the tree its nest was located in, it heard something. “U~ U~ Yummyyyy~” Looking up, it saw a Remirya sitting, happily chomping down on the remains of the Kimeemaru’s parents. Its mother, a Momizi-type, had its face torn in two; one side gulped down by the hungry Remirya and the other still lying in the nest with a horrified expression. The Kimeemaru had already been crying, but now wanted to scream in sorrow. But it didn’t. It couldn’t risk being spotted by the Remirya, so instead it crawled into nearby bushes and tried to be as quiet as possible, silently grieving its parents.

I know, but it's just so absurd. Saying "munch" I can live with, but saying that SFX sounds as preposterous as someone shouting out "SILENCE" to point out that the room has gone quiet.

On the subject of factory products;

73. The factory has announced five new products. We would like to invite you all to test them.
1) Instant Yukkuri Soup. A package with a small hole, containing rice and a live koyukkuri. All you have to do is pour boiling water into the hole. You may consider the screams as an elegant BGM, and when they stop, your soup is ready.
2) Bagged Yukkuris
A large number of koyukkuris in a bag. Saves you the trouble of carrying them seperately. Depending on your taste, you may eat the first one in front of the others, so the horror makes their bean paste sweeter, or you can eat them secretly, to keep the babylike sourness.
3) Capsule Yukkuri
Not food, but entertainment. Newborn yukkuris in a small tube with holes, through which you can pour orange juice to feed them. (Scientific research has shown that they can survive with only orange juice, but they won't grow larger.) When they grow up, they will trust you completely, so even if you tell them to eat each other they won't object.
4) Iced Yukkuri
A box with one Cirnoff in each corner. Place a yukkuri in the middle and leave it overnight. (You may want to cover it with something to stifle the screams.) The next morning, you can file it and obtain a wonderful topping for many sweets.
5) Instant Remirya
A Remirya in a special box. All you have to do is immobilize it, and eat the parts you want. If the screaming bothers you, a special soundproof mask is included.
We hope you enjoy or new line of product

>Wouldn't the koyukkuri eat all the rice?
1. Single koyukkuri, all the rice. It wouldn't be able to eat it all
2. Based on the other products, the yukkuri always seem to be kept on hand and then sealed up when a customer requests them. See the capsule yukkuri for an example; a ko wouldn't be able to go more than a few hours without any food, so that would only be feasible if a customer ordered it, and the employees tore some koyukkuri off a stem and packaged them.
3. The koyukkuri would also likely be too busy crying about being unable to take it easy and missing it's mother and all to eat very much

>What a weird thing to do.
You're right. I'm guessing that's just a translation mistake. It's almost certainly based on the factory product snippet, so there should be a tiny hole that wasn't drawn to inject boiling water.

And repeating my question about the orange juice to anyone that reads the stories in Japanese.

Sour beans. Koyukkuri are sour unless put through enough despair, which is too much work for a snack.

And that image seems to be part of a series involving colorful, cute yukkuri getting along; even a kimeemaru and remirya. I'd rather see this series get finished (or up to date, rather) first. This image and 2 more prequel/introduction images need work.

It was time to earn some cash, decided anonymous. He had made a killing off selling the disguised Alice yukkuris to the factory, but that had been a while ago and he needed some extra money to make up for all the extra ‘equipment’ he was buying.

It was a wintery day, the cold air making him tuck his hands into his jacket pockets as he stepped out into the snow. After an hour or so rooting around fruitlessly in his normal yukkuri hunting spots, he gave up on finding anything easily. While going off the beaten path was dangerous, he wasn’t overly worried – not that many youkai went out in the cold, and that ice fairy was still around the lake, the last he had heard.

It was in a cave he found his prize – a narrow, deep hole that was far longer than it had any right to be – but amongst a group of common Reimu and Marisas, he found a yukkuri he had never seen before. It looked like a Mystia type, with odd wings, but instead of a winged hat, it had a green ribbon on it instead.
”Hmm… perhaps a Reimu-Mystia child? No… yukkuri genetics really don’t work like that. Anyway, it’s going to be my ticket to riches! A new yukkuri type…”

The winged yukkuri hopped up and down in front of him.
”Who’re you, mister? Take it over easy!”
He picked it up, feeling it’s warmth in his hands, heating his bones.
“Don’t worry, I’m a friend. What’s your name, yukkuri?
“Yu? Un.. unyuu…” The yukkuri’s face scrunched up in thought. Must be pretty stupid, Anon thought. Well, never mind.
“Hey, how would you like to take it easy with me? I’ll be able to feed you lots of good food!”
”Yu! Take it over easy!”

Anon brought back the strange, new yukkuri with him, as well as it’s two children. They were actually quite cute for disgusting freaks of nature, he decided. Back at his house he set up a plastic cage for them to play in, and gave them some sweets.
“Thanks mister! Unyuu..” Anon laughed with them, wondering how they’d scream if he were to rip off one of their wings. But.. no.. no point in damaging the merchandise, was there? Besides, there were plenty of common yukkuris in the basement for him to torture if he needed some fun. He coughed suddenly, a nasty hacking sound emanating from the back of his throat. Perhaps he should have worn some warmer clothing?

The next day, Anon crawled out of bed. It was high time he started investing in a better windows – he was shivering and tired by the time he managed to drag himself up. He looked at his bleary face in the mirror and started brushing his teeth.
Huh. Blood. That couldn’t be good. A crash from the living room distracted him, and he raced out to see what happened.
”Unyuu-!” One of the koyukkuris jumped out of the box, gliding down to land safely on the floor. The room was a mess, with bits of paper everywhere. Anon sighed half in anger, half in relief – he had mostly yukkuri-proofed the room, and tidying it up would be a pain, but if the new yukkuri types got free, he’d lose all that potential money… He’d have to go slowly melt a few of the yukkurisas downstairs to calm down, though.

“Hey, hey, what are you doing?”
“We’re flying, mista!” It was more of a barely controlled glided, Anon thought. But as he managed to herd the yukkuris back into the plastic crate he managed not to crush any of them.
He put it out of his mind as someone knocked on the door. Finally, the factory workers!
”It’s a new type of yukkuri! What do you think?”
The factory worker looked at the winged yukkuris, and made a thoughtful sound.
”Yeah, this type showed up only recently. We’ve only got thirty or so, so it’s not a bad find, though.”
”What? I’ve never seen this type before! Are you sure-“
”I’ll give you 13,000 for it. They seem to be quite rare, so they’re still worth something.”
Grumbling, Anon accepted 13K. He’d hoped for more, but it was a lot better than what he’d usually get. The factory worker bowed, and took away the winged yukkuri and it’s progeny. Time to celebrate by killing some of the yukkuris downstairs…

The factory worker chuckled under his breath as he carried the box away – a totally new yukkuri type, and only for 13 thousand? Believing the quick lie of that yukkuri type ‘showing up recently’ - what an idiot! Bringing back this never seen before yukkuri for such a cheap price was sure to get him a promotion. He could feel the excitement pulsing in his veins, a heat building up in his body.
“Mistah, where are we going?”
”Oh.. you’re going to.. The Factory.”
“Unyuu.. what’s that?” The worker was surprised – didn’t all the yukkuri know what the factory was? Ah, never mind. They’d find out soon enough…

Anon was in pain. He’d started coughing up blood, and his skin had started to peel off. He staggered out of his house, not even bothering to secure the remaining yukkuri he had been “playing” with. He needed a doctor… if he got as far as the village he’d be ok…

He made it about half a mile before collapsing for the last time, bleeding out of his eyes, his nose and fingers starting to rot off in the cold.

In the factory, the managers were very pleased at the new find. They started grow the new yukkuris rapidly, sending in Alices to rape and force-breed the winged yukkuri types, force-feeding them sugar and honey to keep them alive. It’d be interesting to test out how they react to pain, thought the factory worker. He’d been promoted, and was in charge of the new discovery. It was a very good day.

Elsewhere in the factory, alarms were going off.
”Track it down! Look, there weren’t any radiation tests scheduled today! Where’s the source?”
The assistant shrugged, holding up an antique Geiger counter, the best the factory could get from Kourindo.

Over half a day had passed, and the newly-promoted manager was feeling slightly nauseous. He amused himself by slowly spiking one of the new yukkuris through the eye, not killing it, but letting it hang above the others.
“Uuu… unyuu…” It wriggled weakly. He laughed, then coughed – a thickly wet sound that was accompanied by blood. That man who sold these things – did he have some sort of disease? His thoughts were interrupted by the men in rubber suits walking through the door.
“Yeah, it’s coming from over here. Hey you, what are you- Ah, no.”
”What’s wrong?” Bewilderment turned to confusion and fear as the men waved at him plastic wands, the machines in their hands clicking like mad.
“Yeah, he’s a goner. Looks like those yukkuris are radioactive. Blimey, it’s off the charts – we need to evacuate the whole place and relocate.”
“What’s going on? What do you mean, ‘goner’?”
The man nearest him shrugged. “You’ve been irradiated with something over 3,000 rem. Sorry, but you’re probably going to die in about a couple of days. Nothing we can do.”
”..How? That can’t be right? I mean, what’s radioactive?”
The man pointed at the winged yukkuri. “It’s them, I’m afraid. No idea how they survive it, but they’re the ones that killed you.

The worker’s rage built up. He was going to die? Those… monstrous things killed him? He slowly walked over to the cage, feeling the heat the yukkuris gave off. And with a scream, he brought his foot crashing through the plastic, crushing one

The first order of business was to find food. The Kimeemaru hadn’t eaten since it left for the village the day before, so by now it was starving. It was all alone so it couldn’t depend on its speedy parents to find food for it. Even though it was heavily injured, the Kimeemaru came across a bush of berries that it had never seen before. The red berries that were growing were sour, too sour for consumption, but the Kimeemaru had no choice but to continue. After it was adequately filled, it began to search for a new home. It didn’t know how to build a nest, but it had heard of other yukkuris living in caves or underground chambers. It decided to scavenge the surrounding area for something that would serve as suitable shelter. However, its search was interrupted when it heard something yell, “Hey! I found one!” A human quickly snatched the Kimeemaru in a net and placed it in a small cage. The yukkuri was too weak to react.

1. One cannot sustain nuclear fusion without emitting fucktons of radiation. The sun emits more radiation in a minute than all the atomic bombs we've detonated combined.
2. Her leg represents the Elephant's Foot of Chernobyl, which gave off upwards of 25000 roentgens per hour. That's enough to kill you in 5 minutes. I think it may be the teensy bit radioactive.

>But how much of this is your own speculation, and how much is actually said in game?

Her foot being radioactive is just speculation. I mean, the Elephant's Foot was probably the most radioactive artifact on Earth.

>If she is capable of fusion at any temperature, why isn't she also capable of inhibiting radiation?

And these are linked HOW?
Her power is that of atomic fusion and fission. That doesn't mean she can inhibit the results. Her power is NOT radiation or radioactivity; it's making shit fucking blow up.
Also, I don't think she ever does COLD fusion. She probably does a localized fission explosion and then using that energy to jumpstart her "stars".

>Is it actually ever said in game that she is radioactive or that her nuclear powers are?

She herself, no. Her powers are nuclear bombs. That's automatically radioactive, isn't it? Atomic fission and fusion just give off gamma radiation. There's no stopping it.

>> No.1458945

>>1458912
So where is it said that her leg is actually giving off radiation?

For the fusion giving off radiation, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to believe that any radiation could be prevented using her control. Fusion should only give off gamma rays, and magically preventing that from happening would result in more efficient fusion. Unless I'm missing something, she's already magically subverting the insane temperature requirements for nuclear fusion.

>It just seems that if she's capable of controling the start of a reaction, she should have at least some control over the effects. I don't see why she would be immune to her own radiation, and from the few screenshots I've seen she can direct the blast as suns or something; definitely not something you could do with a raw nuclear explosion

It's a sustained nuclear reaction, actually.
It's a continuous bomb going off. That's what stars are. Endlessly looping bombs. They look round because they're in space and have no air to displace as a mushroom cloud and THEY DON'T STOP IN A FLASH LIKE NUKES.
Well, some do, but Supernovae are big fucking flashes.

I thought SA takes place in hell.
My point was that she isn't just creating a nuclear reaction and letting it run it's course, which should be to expand in all directions like any extreme heat source should. IIRC, she shoots HUGE bullets at the player, right? non-expanding bullets that follow a line?

Well, consider the name [Atomic Fire "Uncontainable Nuclear Reaction"]...
And in most of her attacks, yeah.
But in her iconic attack, ["Hell and Heaven Meltdown"], she creates two massive stationary stars at the top and bottom of the screen. They weave their own danmaku.
