Neon FM wasn't anything worth getting excited about, so why would people anticipate a game that's just Neon FM with spinners? eclale's launch already looked half-assed when the bulk of the content came from outsider artists, so when your HOT AND NEW IP has literally zero songs made in-house in the default songlist and unlock system or even in that long-ass list of songs that will be available "soon", it makes you think just how little effort and time they spent producing this game. Hell, even the UI looks broken and in beta stages with the unaligned lanes and color scheming. Having two types of spinner notes is a pain when there are already notes when you have to hold it down and I don't even know how or why the fuck they decided it needed a foot pedal too. Sounds like they decided on the gameplay at a meeting where everyone pitched a bunch of ideas that go absolutely terrible together and everyone there was too afraid to say "no" to any of them. I now wonder just how long it will be until people complain about the button and spinner registry since I can see these things becoming sticky in a record-setting time and the process it takes to fix them up being a nightmare.

We still don't even know who the sound director/producer is, or if there is any.

>>14497102
It had a bunch of charts that were around the same level as DDR's hardest ones at the time and a few that were considered absurd and are still somewhat comparable to the hardest modern DDR/PIU ones. But for the most part ITG's supposed difficulty is a meme, most "expert" charts were perfectly manageable for average 2004 DDR players.
Also ITG1 and 2 stepcharts were released for free, you can get the packs and play them on Stepmania. Personally I think most ITG2 music is pretty shitty, but at least it's worth skimming through Kyle Ward's charts and some isolated double digit ones. For reference, ITG's scale went 1-13, though some stepcharts were heavily overrated in terms of their difficulty.

>> No.14497863

>>14497102
If we're talking about the vanilla versions of the game, ITG was considered more difficult than DDR since it had more than8/9 songs that were 10+ and SN wasn't even out yet. However, PIU was always harder than either game, and still has more difficult charts than those retarded 25X BPM charts with 16th streams that people brag about getting only 100 misses on despite them having got 100 misses on them since 2010. ITG speed/stamina is a stagnant pond that brings nothing new to the table and all of the songs that are 16+ are all literally the same chart but at different tempos and song lengths since ITGfags as a fetal allergy to crossovers or streams lasting less than 16 measures.

Meanwhile, Fefemzs has gotten less than 20 misses on Vacuum Cleaner, a song which has absurdly fast streams while being demanding of crossing over across both pads. If he were to get an ITG machine delivered to Korea and play the same shitty songpack, he would be wiping the fucking floor with the fastest ITG players by the end of the both.

He also holds world records for certain ITG-inspired fanmade charts, also does DDR charts sometimes and set world records for some, though I doubt they held to this day. Rarely posts videos nowadays.
Though he doesn't bother with precision that much, Matt Magdon regularly beats some ridiculously difficult speedcore-level material that goes up to 20 on the old DDR scale. See for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/user/ssandman007/videos

If you have zero experience, download stepmania and play with q,w,o,p
If you've got some experience under your belt (or once you've played stepmania for a while and are looking to move up), download LR2 and play iidx songs from bms.bemaniso.ws
I recommend using the default shift,z,s,x,d,c,f,v key layout since it gets you used to the whole two row concept of the real thing, but I'm sure lots of people will argue with me on that as usual

Once you're used to playing and reading that, try the real thing at R1

>I honestly cannot fathom doing harder 12s without wrist scratching. I just don't know how people like M!tsuba not only do it but get infinitely better scores than me.

Personally I've forced myself to practice hitting keys in whatever way I find is necessary to hit patterns by going back to really easy, low level songs. Dedicating two hours or so daily to only practicing that on top of regular practice. Takes less than two weeks to get it to a level where it's usable on hard songs.
Went from static 1048ish wrist-scratching to silly freestyle quickly. It actually makes the game way easier, because you just do what works and having practiced enough variations, options are there.
I find relearning or practicing new ways to cover keys fun. It's something to do when you've hit a wall and getting bored of doing the same thing, etc. These changes take place so fast that it keeps you motivated to keep coming back the next day and see if you can somewhat hit the notes in the way you've been practicing.
Seems to me people are too concerned with getting good fast, rarely trying something new. As with song variety, I find playstyle variety is also an important factor to keep progressing. When you try new stuff, you'll find some of it is almost naturally better/easier, some less so, but it all adds to your skill in general and will help you cover some really strange patterns and time better. That's my two cents for today

>> No.14515554

Fair enough, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea (Have more fun scoring on 10s than grinding 12.6~7s).

Maybe I'll try it out for a change of pace. Do you just try random ass shit or do you look up hand positions people use for songs and stuff.

At first I looked top players to see how they hit some patterns or cover keys and kinda thought to myself this or that might be useful and went ahead practicing hitting x key(s) with whatever finger(s). Later, the more I tried different stuff I started to get ideas how something might be good to try out and just gave it a shot.
You should get the feel for it. If you've been playing static for a long time, realizing you can actually move your hands and cover way more than you thought is possible is..freeing
But yeah, look up some videos and pick what you think looks fun to practice and have in your skillset. Once you start getting your own ideas, don't be afraid to try them out. Random ass shit can sometimes be incredibly useful

Is it easier to read patterns if you look at where the notes start falling? I see some players lower the lane or stoop so they're eye level with the top of the lane, and I'm guessing they're playing by reaction

well you should be looking at where to notes come from or you'll dramatically decrease the time you have to react.

The main point most people use lane covers is to read dense stuff. They can lock how long a note stays on screen (green number) and the larger the lane cover (white number) the wider the gap between notes are without changing how long they stay on screen.

For example if your green number is 300. That means the notes will stay on screen for 300 ms regardless if your lane cover is 25 50 100 150 300.

300gn = 30 frames at 60fps = 500ms

green number multiplied by 1,6666... = amount of milliseconds visible

250gn = 25 frames (416,666... ms)
260gn = 26 frames (433,333... ms)
270gn = 27 frames (450ms)
300gn = 30 frames (500ms)

dolce uses around 270gn iirc

You guys are so inconsistent BECAUSE you keep changing your offset/speed so often. Pick one at random you find comfortable, use that for a while.

Go on a song like 2-3 difficulties lower that you can consistently do and change the offset to reflect the fast/slows you get.

Then use that one for a bit and repeat. Until you think you're good. It doesn't have to be perfect but good enough, you'll adjust even if it is 'technically' off.

My setup on AC data is a different offset each time I turn it on.

Like if I leave it on -4.2 it's perfectly consistent for the rest of the session but next time I start it up I might have to go to -4.8 or something.

If I start it up and get absurd amounts of slows then I often have to restart the game and hope it's not an offset lower than -5.0 this time.

It's usually a static 60.03 and I don't have timing issues after the game's started, don't feel any drifting or anything like that.

It's really not too much of an issue, I just play one song to set the new offset and then the rest of the session is fine, but it's usually between -4.2 and -5.0.

Personally I wouldn't recommend using offset at all unless it's absolutely necessary. Makes sure you're playing at the right speed. Find the lowest comfortable green number and adjust lane cover as you see fit. You may have to go through adjusting gn after having set lane cover, etc. Do so until fast/slow is about the same.
Instead of adjusting offset every song, adjust gn/lane. It's perfectly reasonable to change gn to match higher/lower bpm songs if you're "reaction-based" player.
Generally changing green number by 5 or 10 max is enough to get consistent fast/slow over broad selection of songs with varying bpm/density.

What you "think(!)" is the right speed for you may not be the "best"! It takes a little bit of time adjusting from higher gn to lower and vice versa. So, first of all give it some time and adjust purely based on your fast/slow regardless of how many misses you get or how difficult you find to read the notes. After a while you'll find the proper sweetspot for your current skill level.
