If you have good levels and equipment, you can run:

First fleet is entirely surface damage, 2nd fleet is entirely ASW with Hyotekis on the 4 CLs.

and i have no problems whatsoever sinking her after debuffing

if you really are not confident, i dont think it matters much whether you do it on easy or medium given your levels.

the most annoying part of the map on hard is node J. If it's the Ha-class lineup, you fight multiple DDs that can cut-in on your ships.

From what I'm reading on wiki, both easy and medium look more or less the same since they don't have the Ro-class variation on that node.

if you plan on resetting the map after you're done farming, then ofc do it on easy. but I don't think you should have any problems on medium post debuff, and that saves you the trouble of resetting the map. E-5 is kinda long since it's divided into two sections, so ideally you should avoid having to reset.

3 CLTs are recommended to have a good obasan killrate

Put your hardest-hitting ASW ship as fleet 2 flagship instead of bisko. Obasan/Wo won't attack till the 4th slot in nightbattle so there's not much of a point to have her attack first and risk a crit from the SS(boss) that survived the day phase

An AA cut-in ship is highly recommended crippling the 2 route nodes, which I usually assign to Maya in the first fleet, since ASW duties are way more important (so no duki DDs)

Turn-sequencing is pretty important. Notice the non-offensive maya tucked at the bottom, Kiso on 4th to target the boss, and 4-slotter as flag(2nd) to finish off the boss

I just began playing today. There's a lots of think I don't really understand, but I think things are going rather well. I just cleared 1-4. I have a few questions though.

- My whole collection as of now is 2 CA, 3 CL, and lots of DDs. How should I compose my fleets ? My main fleet is 2 CA, 1 CL and 3 DDs.
- If I get a CV or a BB, what should I change ?

- During night battles, my CAs often do nothing, while my CLs and DDs deal huge damage. Why is that ?

- I just barely won 1-4, with a B-rank and without sinking the enemy flagship. I need more firepower to go beyond that, but how to get it ? Is gettings loads of ressources through daily quests and try my luck at building ships the only way to get stronger ships ?

- Lastly, my best ship, Chokai, almost always ends up being the MVP. Is it bad that it's always the same ship being the MVP ?

I don't think this setup works well against anything.

2xred, AP shell, plane like normally or red, yellow, radar, plane to for effective PT removal

2xred, type3, plane for CA and put them to the bottom of escort fleet
Torpedo cut-in won't work against land boss so change those torps to yellow guns.
Also you could change that starshell to searchlight and put that DD to top.

The starters are all pretty common so you're bound to get them sooner or later, so people mostly go by which one they like the most, be it their looks, voices, personality or whatnot.

But to go into detail:

The default choice is Fubuki, and for a good reason. She's the rarest starter (though not by much), so it'll be easier to get all the starters sans Fubuki than it'll be to get all the starters sans anyone else. She also has an extra useless torpedo you can scrap for a little extra resources early on. In addition, she's the only one to give 1 firepower on top of 1 torpedo (which all the other starters give as well). This means that you can use all your future Fubuki drops in modernisation if you pick Fubuki as your starter, whereas you'll have to keep one Fubuki if you pick anything else. Also as of now she has a Kai 2, and her Kai 2's stronger than Murakumo's.

Murakumo... unfortunately, unless you like her the most, there's not much point to pick her. Unlike Inazuma, the quest(s) needing her will only be found much later on. She's the only starter other than Fubuki to have received a Kai 2 so far but it's noticeably weaker than Fubuki's, and her Kai 2 doesn't come with equipment that's as good, either.

Sazanami if you care about seasonal sprites. Of the starters, she's received the most so far; 2 compared to 1 each for Murakumo and Inazuma. Fubuki's artist Shibafu doesn't do seasonal sprites and Samidare's artist is ded.

There's no reason to pick Inazuma other than if you like her the most. She's the most common drop out of the starters so there's not much point picking her to get a headstart in doing the early DesDiv6 quest when you're going to get a pageful of her early on anyway. With that said she's still the most popular starter. Make of that what you will.

Samidare if you care about the equipment. She's the only one of the starters to get a quad O2 torp at Kai, and they stay relevant for quite a long while since quint O2 torps aren't easy to get. However since she isn't a special type DD like the other 4 (she's a Shiratsuyu-class) she's the only starter to have 16 HP instead of 15 pre-remodel, and due to how the mechanics work odd-numbered max HP is better. However that's only before remodel since all starters get 30 HP on remodel and so suffer from even-numbered max HP.

well the reason I'm asking is basically this.

It took me 30+ runs to get to the boss node 3 times. Two were C ranks, and one was a random S rank.

It took another 30ish runs to get another 2-3 boss attempts with one B rank success.

Repeat above for another two B rank and another S rank

And so on. I'm currently at 96 points, If i stack 16 drums + one landing craft I can get roughly 97-98 points if I manage to B rank once. Alternatively I could aim for 64 points and attempt an S rank.

I'm asking because I have no knowledge on how difficult E-3 medium's last dance mode is, especially with how bad my luck is skewed. I've been going at E-3 for nearly 3 or 4 days.

Why would that matter at all? On Zuikaku all of her slots minus the last are the same size. On Hiryuu it's her smallest big slot. The only error in that setup, which I fixed, was swapping Zuikaku's Saiun (in the 12 slot) for Taihou's Reppuu (in the 8 slot) for a little extra air power.

Don't do it. You'll use way too many repair teams. I used the top fleet for TP bar and bottom fleet for health bar and cleared whole thing in 31 runs + 6 for debuffing. 37 total. You need Kawakaze for drum holding if you're in TP bar and for double attack which is reasonably strong for the health bar.

1-6 only gives resources (steel etc.). 1-5 is just subs if you go BBV, CVL, DD(or CL) x 2 you can easily clean up the map in a matter of minutes. 2-5 can be easy if you have the right setup - 2 CAV 3 CA 1 CLT is what the wiki recommends (with 2 drums equipped), I personally just bruteforce the map with 4fBB2CV. I'm happy I had pretty moderately above average luck for all the drops, although I still had to work for them, unlike some of those who got them in like 5 runs.

It depends. Type 3 does basically nothing for BBs because they're sitting at or close to firepower cap in daytime, so 91 is preferred for better performance. If you intend to bring them into night battle against installations though Type 3 makes them stronger than CAs.
