I've completed it yesterday. Final scene was damn great.
Overall its shaping as very strong contender for vn of year for me, there's not even single thing I could complain about.
Some random positive things about Cavalier:
- Fighting scenes are very well-paced and give proper feel of sword 殺し合い.
- No fucking schools.
- Very deep introspection into politics of era. No "good" vs "bad" bullshit, every side has its own reasons for acting, no whitewashing.
- No retarded tsundere heroines.
- No retarded pacifism.
- No retarded cliche eroge humour.
- Takaya writing is great on every level. Its obvious that he spent tons of time studying era, up to specific details about what words were used at that time. And then he shares all that knowledge with his trademark info windows.

The final scene with Serizawa's death is pretty damn strong indeed. I still think a little more build-up to that would be great. Maybe it's just me but the emotional attachment of the MC with her was a little weak for me to be actually hurt by that scene.

Most likely everyone in the eroge industry at least took notice of it, but we'll see if they are brave enough for that kind of project, since its not easy for sure.

Making an amateur game with good idea isn't that hard, but when you make it full priced people will start complaining about every little thing. Also "single heroine" type games are even harder, and its not like you can add 3-4 different heroine into this kind of game either since you have to focus just one and heal her.

In short to be honest I dont think there'll be something like that, but I really would like to play / buy if anyone makes.

Yes that's my point exactly, if people are willing to pay 2,000円 for what amounts to so little content, I do not think they'd be upset to pay even 4,000円 with an appropriately doubled/tripled amount of content.

If anything, I think this shows that people don't care THAT much about padding, right? That's a conversation I hear a lot - eroge scenarists add a bunch of padding so that the reader feels they get their money's worth. But, maybe the reader will be just as satisfied without the padding, if the main course is good enough.

It seems to have ended up being regarded as kind of an unhappy compromise between yuri and the "sole guy in an all-girls school" cliche, which is not really incorrect. It IS basically a yuri game about an effeminate guy instead of a girl though and if that doesn't make you want to avoid it, giving it a shot may be worth it.
Beyond that, it's rather average both in english and japanese. Never bothered with the sequel though so can't comment on that.

Well, こころリスタ！ was a lot better that I was expecting it to be, being the first title in 6 years from a company I had never heard of.
If Q-X continues to make games again after this I'll definitely be looking forward to them.

So? I have poverty-tier hardware but I've never had an issue running an eroge in a VM. They're mostly CPU-bound anyway, which is what VMs are good at. The compatibility tradeoff alone is worth it.

Besides, if you're worried about gaming performance, you shouldn't be using Linux anyway because the graphics drivers are utter shit.

That's the reason. More than half of progams on the internet aren't made for Linux. That's including eroge as well.

I understand that. That's why I previously said we aren't forcing you to use Linux. I sometimes work with video editing and I have to periodically boot Windows to use some tools so I understand what you're saying. But we have to acknowledge that Windows is an inferior and clunky OS that starts shitting itself after a year and if the same software that I needed were available on both OSes I would boot Linux every time, no contest. All recent eroge work just fine for me under Wine, though.

I remember a post of a Microsoft employee saying how shitty the code base and development process and environment were, where technical improvements were not encouraged and even looked at with disdain. You can't make something good under this environment, no matter how good of an engineer you are.

I just finished watching the Yozora trial livestream that the official Pulltop channel was doing through Youtube even though I already played it. So far it's Bansenjin, 3rd Ley Line and the new Utawarerumono. I also played Chaos;Child's PS3 port, but it's technically last year's game. All were good overall, though a bit disappointing considering how hyped I was for them.
Still haven't gotten around to properly playing Sakura no Uta. I played through the first chapter some time ago, but so far it hasn't really absorbed me and hearing that the next chapter I'm about to start is supposedly the shittiest part of the game is demotivating me from playing it further.
Waiting for Steins;Gate 0 and Hanahime Absolute before passing my final judgement on the year. I'm afraid the latter will get pushed to next year since it still doesn't have a proper release date.

I just finished this recently. The ending was such an asspull, the resolution to Yuka's story made no sense. The "hurrr she's not a bad person she was only bullied!!11" justification felt so shallow, but maybe I expected too much from a game about psychotic lolis. I almost wish I stopped playing at Yamiko's route because it was clearly the best end. At least Gore had some cool moments. The parts of the game that had some tense, scary moments were the best. Overall pretty disappointing to what could have been an interesting game if the bad heroine drama didn't ruin the experience.

I just finished FLOWERS' 春編 and I loved it. Going to dig into 夏編 soon, probably after I finish Fairytale Requiem. Come back Mayuri ;_;7

+Timed dodge / block / counter attack with the right items or party member abilities
+Each character has more than one combo, usually with various buffs / debuffs, different range and AoE, things like only being able to use a move when not moving during turn, but getting to attack twice etc.
+Magic and healing is now tied to the combo system
+Morale system that gives characters extra turns and the ability to use ultimate attacks when the bar is full

On the other hand
-It's a bit too easy even on hard difficulty setting.
-There's only half the story battles compared to original, with the remaining battles being only unlockable post-game extras that have nothing to do with story
-Stat leveling is mostly static, with bonus points only providing small stat boosts so you'll have less control over how you want to build your characters
-I might be remembering this wrong, but there's less units (both own and enemy) in battle at the same time

Bansenjin has the best heroine of 2015, so there's her if you found the previous girls lackluster. The writing style is the same, though I personally really like Masada's "bloated" style despite finding the actual plot of both Hachimyoujin and Bansejin somewhat unimpressive compared to DI and KKK.

First thing I noticed right away was a huge line before Softmap 1号店. It turned out a giveaway for D.S. -Dal Segno- posters started and I couldn't believe Citrus recycled VNs would be still so popular. But then it turned out it was a free giveaway to anyone, so that explained it.

There were also several of those lottery stands for people who bought or preordered certain titles, so that was pretty crowded too.

And the eroge floor in Softmap 1号店 was crazy crowded too. There was even like 10 minute wait to get to the cashier, so I stood in a line with dozens of Japanese people.

Personally I preordered Maitetsu, but sadly there was no lottery for that.

I've wasted my time twice going to Akihabara for those lottery events, just ended up with a postcard from one and a clear file from the other. They weren't VNs though, just normal games. Doubt the VN lotteries will be much better, though.

Just look at the A-S's Eroge corner, at some older posts 2DGF has said that if girlcelly would stop posting torrents they would keep games 15 days for their VIP, but since girlcelly is an asshole and posts torrents as soon as someone uploaded on freenet they cant keep them.

First of all only Checkmate (A-S's admin) & 2DGF and Girlcelly are uploading new releases. Checkmate usually uploads slower than all others and buys only one, maybe two games at per month so there is no way he could steal all from him, and as I said 2DGF is uploading their games as soon as they saw them at freenet BECAUSE they know if they dont, gircelly will upload it first and get all the downloads.

Its NOT about who uploaded first and who didnt, its all about the pressure.

Also I have seen many games where girlcelly had special content while 2dgf didnt and where 2dgf had while girlcelly didnt, so I'm calling this "he is stealing from china devs" a bullshit.
