if they don't have experience painting 3D things, or anything all, that's really not true. it'll take a big investment of time, and a somewhat hefty investment of money to get the skills and materials.

also i think calling the makeup subpar is harsh. it is a little bit expensive, but she's pretty.

a DDH is about 50 bucks, and all the other painting materials (sanding tools, knives, brushes, paints, pastels, sealant, glue) can easily go over 50. You might be able to do better yourself, but if you don't have any tools on hand, 100 dollars for a finished head seems like a pretty good price.

An alternative is to buy the blank head for $50 and spend the extra $50 you have on a custom faceup from an artist of your choice. $50 is usually the average price for the high tier artists. You don't have to get that particular finished head, but I would not recommend trying to do it yourself to save money.

Also instead of paying someone else to do make up on your doll. Having your own "touch" to it makes your girls MORE important to you and creates an intense bond with you.

That's a big difference in size. It depends on which one you really want. Like the other anon said, if you really want a 1/3, better to put that $100 towards a larger doll.

However, if you're totally new to BJDs and don't want to invest in a large doll at first, there are plenty of companies with 1/4 size dolls that are very reasonably priced (in the $200-300 range).

Well, here's my first attempt at using a flat iron to straighten a wig. It's not perfect, but I'll do better in the future. I had problems in the first few minutes, though. I melted a part of the wig and then burned my finger a little bit.

are flat irons supposed to just keep heating up well after they've hit the set temperature, or is mine shitty? I just juggled the on/off switch and didn't have any mishaps after that, and it was a free wig anyway. Now I just have a good reason to learn how to trim wigs.

You did a good job, anon. A good flat-iron should stay at the set temp. However, with my own flat iron, I find the lowest temp setting (300) excessively hot for heat-resistant wigs - not that it damages the wigs but I'd rather not take any chances on a $30 wig (plus $20 shipping) so I use the minimum heat required. So I do exactly what you did. I turn the flat iron on and off while styling to make sure it's not hotter than it needs to be.

>Now I just have a good reason to learn how to trim wigs.

Most important things I've learned:

1) Use sharp scissors
2) Hold the scissors near-vertically (not horizontally). This will give you that wispy anime-hair look rather than a blunt cut that looks like a 3 year old trimmed her barbie's hair
3) Trim A VERY TINY amount at a time. Step back. Take a look. Trim a tiny bit more. Let the style chill for a day or two so you have time to see where any flaws might be. Then repeat until you have what you like

I finally reached the point where I did a major styling of one of my favorite wigs (chopped almost 3'' off of it, and it was curly too) and I'm really, really happy with it.

God wouldn't give too much of a shit considering the number of messed up and harmful things in our wonderful world. Of course, that's just my guess since I certainly don't know what god would say. Do you know what god would say, anon? You seem very confident.

But never mind god. What I say is that I make my money selling shit on ebay since normal businesses rejected me during my job hunt after college. Just an awkward little guy who stutters too much that no one wants to hire. But I rolled with it. Up until this point I've sold over 10 million USD worth of merchandise online already. Hilariously enough some of the companies that rejected me years ago have closed down during the economy down turn from years ago. I cackle like a hyena every time I drive past those empty office buildings. So I don't know about god, but I say, fuck it, if I want to buy a $600 dress for a tiny plastic girl and put her in a fancy glass cabinet and dote on her once in a while, that's my money and my business.

>wig mist
When she's tangled or has flyaways, spray mist while holding a few inches away from wig. Don't need to soak it, just a light spray is enough for most. It helps detangle and smooth the fibers.
>oil
Similar purpose as mist, but in a different form. I like to apply it to my hands, a few drops is enough, and rub hands together to spread it and warm it a bit. Then gently comb fingers through her wig, starting at bottom and working way up. When there's barely any left on your fingers, gently smooth the top to prevent flyaway bangs. This is also great for loose curls because you can gently twist after combing and form the curls back into shape.
>water wax
This is for actual styling, works best on bangs, antennae curls, and tips of ponytails. Spread a small bit onto your finger tips and smooth/shape areas needed. Its water based, so if its too thick you can dip your coated fingers into warm water and then re-spread it across fingers to mix it in. Its also easy to wash out this way.

If used often, you may end up with a buildup (especially the wax and oil) so you may need to wash the wigs at that point. If its a regular wig with no attached parts (Sabers bun, for example) you can wash it in warm water using either gentle dish soap or a proper wig shampoo that some beauty supplies and wig shops have. Rinse well with warm-to-cool water, spritz with the wig spray, gently detangle with a wide tooth comb, and allow to air dry with a balled up paper towel in the cap to keep its shape.

maybe it would help a little bit with staining, but you'll still get stains. and then when you get rid of those stains you'd just have to spray it again, so i'm not sure that's worth it. also you can't just use any topcoat on DDs but you probably know that.

did you test the stockings before you put them on? i check to see if clothes get any dye on my hands, then if i don't see any then i'll rub it on the bottom of my doll's foot a little. if dye comes off with either of those checks you should soak it in water for a bit.
