Of all the elements at play in 2hu, deathbombing is by far the most important. Knowing when you're going to die, and not wasting bombs, is the easiest path to a 1CC.

How to "be gud":

1. Play the game
2. Keep playing
3. Eat apples or carrots for improved coordination (this shit actually works)
4. Avoid this, but if you can't win, watch other people play the game

Tips: Don't stress out or feel intimidated about a hard stage. Increased heart rate and sweat production in the hands will most likely cause you to make a mistake you wouldn't have made otherwise. In short, keep your composure. Also, find "your" character. Some people are more accustomed to a higher, or slower, moving speed than others.

Play PC-98 games and use an emulator with quick save. Don't bomb at all and go for all endings. By the time you are done with 1-5 you'll be much better.
Also make sure you are hydrated and get enough sleep. It really really helps because it's so much easier to concentrate and do precise movement.
Play practice mode. And don't just do it blindly and complain when you die. Look at the patterns, where the enemies come from, etc. Often you can kill them before they start shooting making levels before boss pretty much a joke.
Make sure you are familiar with the game mechanics for whatever game you are playing and properly make use of them. You can read about them on the wiki.

I used to 1cc hard SA on the daily to keep myself in shape
by the time TD came out and I'd lost all desire to play shmups due to burnout

just now I'm playing DDC as my return shoodumap for the first time and I'm getting blown out by normal stage 4

I can't stop whoring the item get line. it's the only habit I kept. I keep moving backwards off of it and ramming into bullets moving away from me. and these curvy lasers keep beating me up.

how do I get back into shape quickly this is embarassing

at least I got to experience best newhu's cool danmaku. I need to get good again so I can see it on lunatic

playing sakuya here but usually I play reimu A as well, but mostly just because I was a graze fiend. youmu in the TD demo was fun too. I should probably play the full game at some point.
the worst part about it is I can't dodge dense random spreads for shit anymore, but still can't stop myself from sitting on it and just easing my way back into things.

You have to know exactly where and when enemies arrives and stay near below the PoC, not above it. Auto aim makes it easy to destroy wave as soon as possible despite your slow moving speed.

Is there any way to actually get good after you feel like you have hit a skill plateau? I can do some bosses perfectly, but the more I play in the hope to get practice the worse it becomes, to the point that I'm gameovering at stage 1 to random bullets even though I started out trying to master an endgame enemy.

You can't run out of continues in SA.

I guess you're right. I terminated my runs a few times by accidentally resetting with the wrong menu option 3 times already by which time I assumed it wasn't a coincidence, but when I think of it, the number of continues doesn't make sense. I made that post out of frustration.

>Is there any way to actually get good after you feel like you have hit a skill plateau?
You should always feel like you've hit a skill plateau. If you get results constantly, that just means you're playing something that's below your level. That being said, if you want to get better results on normal mode then start practicing on hard-mode; if you want to get better results on hard-mode, start practicing on Lunatic; if want to get better results on Lunatic mode, start practicing LNB runs. If you want to go even further than that, you will have to start playing harder games.

that's completely bullshit how canyou be that stupid? You just need to keep practicing what you want to do, mostly for consistency. If you play futari ultra that won't give you a high score in one of the touhougames

I feel like it's the same with Guitar Hero. If you play the hardest song on expert and you master it, then you can hit all of the notes easily, but then if you switch to a really slow song on easy, then it's so brain-dead easy that it throws you off.

What's your point? The extra stage is clearly harder. My example was obviously an exaggeration, since obviously Touhou isn't brain-dead easy, but stages 4 and 5 are definitely easier than the extra stage.

Actually no.
Not in MoF.

>> No.14192110

I completely agree with him. If you play nothing but lunatic and swap to easy, you're going to be offpace.

>> No.14192234

>>14192110
The point was Extra MoF is easier than stages 4 and 5 (in fact it's the easiest extra overall) so that analogy made no sense.

>If you play nothing but lunatic and swap to easy, you're going to be offpace

Not really. What happens is, if you're having trouble with, for example Normal, then try playing on Hard for a while and then go back to Normal again, you'll notice everything seems a lot more easier.
Same if you play Lunatic on 2x speed and then go back to normal.
Although that feeling of "was this always that easy?" will pass after a short while.

> If you play futari ultra that won't give you a high score in one of the touhougames
First, If you had any reading comprehension, you would've noticed that all of the goals I named were survival-based goals. So you citing a score-based comparison has no grounds as an argument. Second, if you read the comment of the person I was originally referring to, you'll see that he mentions game-overing early which is definitely a survival based problem in the first place. Hence my survival related response.

And thirdly, last but not least, scoring in Futari Ultra would definitely make you a better Touhou player. It wouldn't increase your scores in Touhou directly. But it would improve other things like your scope on how to deal with different attacks, your ability to learn a route, how to dodge and manipulate patterns and most importantly how to resource manage properly.

Besides, entry-level scoring and the skill ceiling in games like Ketsui and Dodonpachi are higher than in the Touhou games. So those would definitely take you further as a player. There, I said it, deal with it.
