It's been 8 years now and they still sound tinny. Will I need to wait another 10? 20?

I fear I'll die of old age before Vocaloid because good enough.

the software is a pile of dicks to use, which doesn't help at all
couldn't get it working over rewire either even though it's supposed to be able to do that
doing vocal dynamics is a pain in the dick, I ended up just saying fuck it and emphasizing the robotic nature of the voices in my track (don't ask me to find it, it's short and the lyrics suck)

the sound of the V3 vocaloids has gotten pretty impressive, even if still not terribly humanlike

Vocaloid won't see any drastic improvements until there is serious competition. Also waifu fags will love their vocalo-waifu regardless if her voice/engine is shit.

So the answer is never until people stop using it or until a better alternative comes along.
