So C88 has ended, and now it's just a half-year till 89. Anybody planning on going already? Any tips, advice or help for a First-Timer? Or at least help on where to read up on help?

I'm going too.
If you need more information about Comiket, the official website has a pdf in english: http://www.comiket.co.jp/info-a/TAFO/C88TAFO/C88eng.pdf

Half a year? It's 4 months, little less.

Is comiket worth going to if you're not interested in buying nsfw items and such?

Ah, right, of course. Got my wires crossed. Since it's a bi-annual event, I naturally think "6 months apart", even though it's in August and December.

I think so. It's a good place to see cute cosplayers.
I'm a fan of the doujin music scene, so it's worth if you listen to bands like Shinigiwa Satellite, Thousand Leaves, etc.

lots of good original music there if you research beforehand, lots of demos in soundcloud and some cds are event only, I recommend that you go. I never buy R18 from there

Any tips or recommendations on hotels or how to get to the big site, stuff like that?

Buy the catalog asap and start planning a route now. The place is insanely crowded, so a lot of time is wasted just walking from table to table. Bring a lot of small change and some food so you don't have to leave early.

Speaking of Comiket 88, was there any must-play games from it?

Any fellow Brits got any experiences bringing back NSFW items back from Comiket/Japan in general?

Not really talking about h-manga as such due to most of the good stuff getting uploaded pretty much straight after, but a lot of the circles I like also produce lewd dakis, posters and the like. If it's a no go I'll just buy music and target corporate booths.

Well it isn't banned in brittish law to bring 2D lolishit to the country so even if they check you it's fine. Only thing you will get is weird looks from people who you will never see again

Use your feets or a train.
>hotels
Airbnb is your answer.

Wow, didn't know Airbnb expanded to Japan already. They move fast.

Day 3 is primarily nsfw stuff, so the other two days have plenty of stuff you may be interested in.

Some guys stay at manga/internet cafes the entire time. They typically operate on a per hour pricing format, but sometimes they offer 12/24 hour rates. Some of the nicer ones have showers and other facilities to accommodate overnight stays. Otherwise find a hotel that is in your price range and close to the stuff you wanna see and/or stations you'll use to get to the event.

The primary method people use is the Rinkai train/subway line. The trains are going to be packed full (as in so full people can't even fit in the train anymore) and the station is a madhouse when you exit. Unfortunately this is what you'll have to deal with so plan accordingly. I go out of my way by traveling several stations essentially "backwards" to get on the line at Shinjuku or Ebisu, so that I have a better chance of actually getting on. If you try to get on at a station closer to the event (someplace like Oimachi or Tennozu Isle) then you may have to skip entire trains to wait for one to come by that actually has room for additional passengers.

If you aren't staying in central/western Tokyo then you can try to get on the Rinkai line at Shin Kiba and come from the "other" direction, in which case the trains are much less crowded. There are also buses and the Yurikamome line, but I've never bothered with those methods.

2D loli is illegal though, it has been for years.
