post how hard you try/failed at learning japanese

>> No.13961554

I didn't fail because I had a goal.

I wouldn't say I've failed. I know enough Japanese to function in Japan with little to no problems. Still studying, though; there's always room for growth.

Thought, back during my first year in university, that I'd learn Japanese so I could read visual novels, because I'm a weeb, and because I'd need to take some (foreign) language courses for my degree. Tried to memorize kanas for a week, forgot to practice a few days and forgot about the whole thing. Realized I didn't even want to read any untranslated VNs. Took English courses for my degree.

Whatever.

Started not too long ago
First week got kinda scared when looking through the book seeing how hard shit looked even in the near future
Second week got scared reading so much about weebs dropping out and thinking i may be one of those
Third week to today i stopped thinking about the weeb objective because im enjoying the whole experience more than anything else on my life so far, i just have a very dumb smile all the time im studying or going to class, it's making me incredibly happy just the act of studying it, which is a first considering how much i hated school in my teens.
Time flies when im sitting in my room studying, before i notice some good 3-4 hours have gone by and that's every day, sometimes when bored before i notice it i take my notes to check if what i studied so far is sticking properly

sounds like you're pretty good. if you can have enjoyable multiple hour study sessions every day you will learn extremely quickly.

Some people have different style of learning that suits them and if you cater to your type, you'll study better. Wish I'd known about this sooner.
