Mikan likely outsold cartagra, how does this make you feel /jp/?

Also as usual, post those numbers if you got em'.

>> No.13943664

Looking at MG's lineup, there's quite a few titles that I actually want to buy on the way.

Looking at JAST I am filled with hate and scorn and just want Sumaga and Seinarakuna. After that I expect nothing to actually get released for 5 years. I don't even know if I expect Sumaga in those 5 years.

Looking at Sekai Project, it's re-releases and promises that are unlikely to be kept. I am glad that some of these people are making some money. Others not so much. But the properties Sekai is bringing to market anger me.

Looking at the unofficial translations, after SubaHibi... there's just so many shit projects. I just wonder, why the fuck were these titles chosen over other things that are actually either desirable or good. There are so many mediocre titles. Unofficial translations do not even have to pay for the IP, licensing, fucking anything. And this is the shit that gets picked?

Then of the titles that are good, there are very few that look like they will receive a real translation rather than a machine translation.

Compared to years ago, things are pretty bad. And since JAST doesn't actually deliver projects, that puts the scene in a pretty bad place other than MG.

Also, MG didn't do anything regarding Umineko fan-translation project so there's no reason to think they'd stop the fan-translation. If anything, they'd likely try to license it and release it.

Besides, witch hunt must revise Umineko translation because of the official release so I'm not so sure they'd work on Trianthology right away.

If I recall, at the end of january, the minori fundraiser stood at about 65k aswell, and if you assume that 50k of that was eden, that comes out to about 2000 edens sold on mangagamer. Story-driven games and gameplay-driven games cater to two different demands. It is a legitimate desire to want to play either the one sort, the other sort, or both. For example, sometimes I just want to have fun, or have a challenge. Story-driven games usually don't provide this, as their main development focus is on the plot, the characters, and so on. Thus I'll turn to other types of games.

Well, gameplay games certainly seem to be in higher demand of the two, in my experience. Which is why VNs/eroge seem like a different medium entirely, since to be into them at all, you have to be into reading. They're for people who want books, of some sort. And I guess there are all sorts of books people want, if you look at women's romance novels. So then what you said applies here on a smaller level because sometimes people want story, sometimes people want to spank the monkey. So the fact that both types of games are doing pretty well makes me think, maybe when it comes to VNs, there's legitimately a good amount of people who like both, even in the west? Possibly.

There are some mainstream movies with detailed sex scenes or nudity, but those are the minority and are actually fading away what's with all the PG 13+ trend.

I wouldn't mind more explicit sex scenes and/or nudity in movies in general.

>I think what makes nukige superior is that you don't see some goofy looking guy with a porn mustache. Or do you?
For me, nukige is superior because it's not just a dude fucking a girl: the end, it has context, dialogues and generally more fetish-y which makes it more enthralling to read and hotter to fap to.

You need to take into account that selling both versions at the same price wouldn't be fair because of content differences. For example, if the non-adult version has the adult content simply removed (Cho Dengeki Stryker for example) with nothing to replace it you shouldn't by any circunstances price those versions equally (unless you want to receive loads of complaints from people who bought the adult version). In the case of the existence of content to replace the adult scenes (this is the case with Princess Evangile), I still think the adult version should be at least a bit more expensive (not as much as the first case I mentioned) because of the sex (basically, market reasons).

I remember some guys discussing this on Steam. Let me check the thread... Found it. It starts here:

And I have to wonder what gave him that idea in the first place. Did they just have some casual exchange, and what Kouryuu took from that was that JAST wouldn't go after any companies they were partnered with? Maybe this happened back when MG released a mountain of softhouse-seal nukige and he meant he wasn't interested in those partners. Moege is probably my favorite kind of VN. But every time I mention disliking one virtually anywhere on the internet, I'm immediately met with these kinds of responses. As if people think moege can ever be mediocre and unremarkable. Da Capo left me with no impression at all. It failed to invoke any kind of emotion, no laughter, no sadness, no anger or hate, not the warm fuzzy feeling you want, just nothing. It came and went and I was left wondering what I just read.

As for what a moege needs to be good, well first of all it needs to be funny. This isn't really optional. Cute art is a bonus (DC's art is pretty damn bad). Strong characters you become attached to are also a requirement. I couldn't give a shit about anyone from Da Capo. I suppose I could break it down in detail if I really wanted to and make a whole dissertation on moege, but I'm way too lazy so you'll just have to make do with my half-assed explanation.

I enjoyed the first one immensely while the second one really disappointed me. Da Capo 3 is probably going to be very forgettable for me.

I see, thanks for the answer. I wish more Alcot games were translated. Since Osadai is the one that is, how do you feel about that one compared to the others?

Not him, but Osadai sucks compared to Clover Day's. Naka no Hito Nado Inai is also a decent ALcot title.

Magical Charming is another good moege for anyone looking for recommendations. That said, moege, like nukige, are super subjective, so you're best just trying some and finding writers/artists/seiyuu you like and go from there.

You have broken file in a download, recheck the torrent in your torrent client. As for non-system drive, running the game from there avoids permissions issue when the game writes savedata into its own directory if it's in a protected location (such as "Program Files" or root of the system drive). I personally just install everything to D:\Games.
Anyway, this thread is not for technical support. The game works, go ask /vg/ or something.

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and just used a different download and it worked, so I'll take your word for it that I fucked up the torrent somehow.

To think this is what it's come to, though. I've spent so long waiting for Subahibi that I'm playing Sakura Beach. See what you've done, Herkz? See what you have inflicted upon us?

>Why can't other VNs be that reasonable about pricing? Preferably with a better translation.

They did a hack job cutting out the ero, with no regard for how to connect the scenes before and after. The poor translation quality didn't help either. Before getting on Steam, the title didn't even sell well, so why wouldn't they discount it when people wouldn't buy it at a higher price?

>> No.13949836

Another thing I like about Cross Ange is that it has a bunch of the older crowd of female VAs. People you don't really see anymore because Japan likes to toss them out of the industry once they reach a certain age, for some reason. Who knew Houko Kuwashima could still do a voice like that? I sure didn't, and might never have if this miracle had not happened, because she's nearly 40 and that means she's dead to Japan. Even when she does get cast it's never a character like Vivian. It's not like they're any less skilled, Japan is just fucking stupid.

>> No.13949851

So it actually started selling well when they put it on Steam? It feels like getting on Steam is essentially a guarantee of success for a visual novel, to the extent that they must have been completely unaware of its influence if they were dumb enough to not even consider putting it on Steam until like a year later.

He showed off his Google Glass off at a con and it got someone at Key's attention, since the item wasn't out in Japan yet. He basically lucked his way into Clannad. After that, they had some rep, since Key's games are so famous.

I'm not sure why you posted that in this thread, but at least eroge VAs don't really have that problem. Some of the best known, most prolific VAs are pushing 40 now.

A lot of the fan translators out there have this really cocky attitude that wouldn't work very well with a company like MangaGamer. Moogy is one of them, and a good chunk of the Fuwa translators out there are pretty similar. I feel like even if he were inclined to do work, he wouldn't pass their test, because he wouldn't fit with them. Look at all the people that actually work for MangaGamer. BDH, Maria, Good Haro, Doddler. They are all REALLY nice on the internet and friendly to everyone. They were like this even before they started working for MangaGamer. That is what they like to see. Not this cocky prick constantly tweeting about how everything is "dank" and "gay."
